BE BEE LASS - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Broke again near the 1800 metres.
MY MOMENT'S NOW - broke racing into the first bend. Stewards questioned driver M Williamson regarding the manner in which he drove over the concluding stages with particular regard to his apparent lack of vigour. Mr Williamson advised that having previously broken earlier in the race, he was reluctant to pressure the filly over the final stages due to her trotting roughly. Mr Williamson added the horse had broken at its first race and Trainer M Purvis had warned him that she would need to be handled carefully in the final stages. Stewards noted Mr Williamson's explanation.
MAJESTIC JAG - broke at the start. Broke again near the 700 metres.

SHADOW AVEROSS - paced roughly around the first bend.

Race 3   EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES FILLIES & MARES MOBILE TROT
There was a slight delay to the start due to MAJESTIC ROSE requiring a sulky change.
MAJESTIC ROSE - trotted roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. Trotted roughly at various stages throughout.
ANOTHER CHAPTER - driver L Whittaker momentarily dropped his foot from the sulky rest when attempting to activate gear in the final straight. Mr Whittaker reported he was unable to release the deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled. Stewards questioned driver L Whittaker, assisted by T Williams, regarding his drive between the 1400 metres and the 800 metres when he elected not to shift outwards when the opportunity existed to obtain the one-one position which resulted in him being covered by KIWI CRUSHER until the top of the straight when he was momentarily held up before running on strongly over the final 150 metres. Mr Whittaker advised that the horse wears a pole on the near side due to its strong tendency to lay inwards at speed. He said the horse had, as usual, hung inwards on the bends and so he elected to maintain his position on the marker line following horses that he observed to have had an economical run rather than shift out and follow the horse which had been racing in the open throughout (SOME TIME), which he felt would weaken and require him to shift outwards at a later time. Mr Whittaker added that despite his horse being briefly held up he felt he was still gifted every chance to win the race and over the final stages believed that he had ceased taking ground from the winner. After reviewing the films and considering his explanation his comments were noted.
NATIVES LASTING LOVE - weakened badly from the 1200 metres and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
KIWI CRUSHER - well back from the unruly position at the start due to trotting roughly. Driver J Cox reported the mare had hung inwards throughout.

Notwithstanding this, Mr McNally was reminded of his obligations to make a greater effort to be in position in future.
IT'S ME - hung outwards around the bends.
JEREMY WELLS - out of position at the start. When spoken to trainer/driver J Harrington advised that the gelding had previously struggled racing around the bends on this course and because of this he had attempted to keep the horse balanced in the score up. Notwithstanding this Mr Harrington was reminded of his obligations to make a greater effort to be in position in future.
Stable representative J Morrison advised Stewards on 24 January that NARCISSIST has recovered well following its fresh up performance at Timaru last week adding that the filly should show benefit from the run when competing at Motukarara this coming Sunday.
