Race 6 - ARCHER FAMILY REUNION MOBILE PACE
Trainer M House advised Stewards that DEN'S LEGACY has been given a brief freshen up since disappointing at Reefton on 30 December. Mr House added that a number of his team have been suffering from viruses and he suspects that this may have been affecting DEN'S LEGACY.
Race 10 - RAY & MERIE MORRIS MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
Driver P Davis (I'LDOITMYWAY) admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After hearing submissions on penalty, Mr Davis' driver's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing on 17 January up to and including 26 January 2020 (3 days).
Rangiora HRC - Friday, 3rd January 2020
Race 6 - DAWE CONTRACTING LTD MOBILE PACE
Trainer T Chmiel advised Stewards on 8 January that DUASTAR was found to be suffering from a virus following its performance at Rangiora last week.
Trainer N McGrath advised Stewards on 8 January that PETREA BROMAC has recovered well following its disappointing performance at Rangiora last week and at this stage will continue with its current preparation.

Race 1   TURF HOTEL MOBILE PACE
WESTBURN BLISS - lay inwards throughout the home straight.
VESNINA - refused to complete its preliminary despite the efforts of driver B Butt and fell to the track. Late scratching by Order of Stewards due to unsatisfactory manners. Stood down pending one satisfactory trial. There was a delay to the start until such time that VESNINA could be cleared from the track.
MELODY'S MISCHIEF - hung outwards on various occasions throughout the race.
Race 2   BMTT & DESIGN ART TROT
HALFWAY THERE - broke after 150 metres. Broke again near the 1200 metres.
BLACK JACKET - held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
GAYTANA - fractious prior to the start. Trotted roughly in the home straight.
GOTTA TICKET - broke shortly after the start. Broke again near the 1000 metres.
JAY BEE AND LOU - broke at the start. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer N Munro.
TRAMPS LIKE US - broke in early stages and continued on in a gallop for a considerable distance despite the efforts of driver B Butt.
PLAY DOUGH - checked by a breaking runner rounding the first bend and broke for a short distance in consequence. Weakened on the final bend.
MONO GAMBLE - broke rounding the first bend checking a trailing runner. A final warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
DREAMSINTHE MIST - broke at the start.
SHES SO RIGHT - weakened from the 900 metres. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
PEAK AGAIN - broke racing into the first bend.
ILSAS SON - trotted roughly in the home straight.

LIVING DELIGHT - broke at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages. Weakened final bend.
HER MAJESTY - broke at the start.
PEMBROOK TILLY - paced roughly rounding the final bend.
MARK O'RONGA - over-raced middle stages.
LOYALIST - paced roughly early stages.
REGATTA - hung inwards near the 600 metres. Paced roughly around the final bend and the home straight. Post-race veterinary examination showed no abnormalities.
SCARED STIFF - paced roughly early stages and had to be steadied. Over-raced in the middle stages when leading.
CAMBIRE - held up in the early stages of the run home.
POCKET ROCKNROLL - hampered by breaking runners at the start, and broke losing all chance.
Race 4   NELSON OTB/ESPRESSO CAR WASH RICHMOND MOBILE PACE
MR SIMPLY THE BEST - paced roughly through the middle stages and hung inwards around the bends. Weakened final bend.
HE'S AFLYIN - hung inwards on various occasions throughout the running.
MAXIMILIAN - paced roughly in the run home and had to be steadied.
GANDOLF BROMAC -a false start was declared due to the gelding pacing roughly in the score up and then shifting up the track locking sulky stays with TAUMALOLO. Broke again in the score up of the restart losing considerable ground. Broke racing into the first bend. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
TAUMALOLO - checked in the score-up at the first attempt with a false start being declared. Held up by a weakening runner near the 600 metres.
DIDJASEETHAT - hung outwards around the bends. Weakened from the 500 metres.
CONQUISTADOR - held up final bend.
Race 5   TOWN & COUNTRY VETS MOBILE PACE
ROZZANO - weakened near the 600 metres after racing in the parked position throughout. When spoken to regarding the performance driver S Tomlinson reported that the mare had worked too hard in the early stages after being unsuccessful in challenging for the lead with the effort taking its toll. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
ALL NUTS N BOLTS - when spoken to regarding the performance both trainer D Pearce and driver B Orange were disappointed with the effort and could only advise the horse races best when either leading or in the parked position. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SONIC REIGN - held up early stages of the run home.
MY NIKAYLA - raced wide early stages.
CONTRACTUAL ISSUES - when spoken to regarding the improved performance driver G Smith could only advise the horse had benefited from an economical run throughout.
Race 6   HOANI JACK CUP MOBILE PACE
SHESHEARTANDSOLE - held up in the early stages of the run home.
SCELTA UNO - over-raced in the middle stages.
FRANCO HOFFMAN - underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after not having started for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Permission was granted for the gelding to have removable deafeners added prior to the start due to the horse warming up unfavourably. A false start was declared after the gelding broke in the score up checking SHESHEARTANDSOLE. Driver J Dunn elected to remain in his allocated barrier position for the re-start. Fractious leaving the pre-race formation for the restart and was out of position at the start. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Raced erratically throughout causing Mr Dunn considerable difficulty. Hung outwards abruptly near the 900 metres with Mr Dunn electing to shift the gelding wider on the track for safety reasons. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Trainer B Rochford advised that he would be removing the blinds on the gelding for the second day.
MAHARANI - when questioned regarding the performance of the filly driver M Anderson could offer no tangible explanation.
Race 7   PALMS MOTEL/NELSON BUILDING SOCIETY HANDICAP TROT
I DREAM OF JEANNIE - broke over the concluding stages. Authorisation of 5th place was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the horse had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations in the run home. Driver S Ottley was warned for attempting to improve her position in the home straight when insufficient room existed.
CHIVASION - driver M Edmonds will be spoken to in the coming days about the manner that he drove in the home straight.
SUNNY BILL - hung inwards on the final bend and struck several pylons.
LOOK BOTH WAYS - broke at the start. Broke again near the 300 metres and shifted outwards locking wheels with MIDNIGHT DASH which also broke. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
MIDNIGHT DASH - checked near the 300 metres and locked wheels with LOOK BOTH WAYS before breaking. Driver C Thornley reported his sulky tyre deflated near the 1400 metres.
HONEYS SON - underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after not having started for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start.
MICHELLE - driver W Higgs was spoken to advisedly for the manner he drove rounding the first bend when attempting to ease MIDNIGHT DASH down the track without sufficient advantage.
ONE MAJIC KENNY - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.
VALLEY STAR - broke in the early stages losing all chance.
OVERZEALOUS - trainer M Nyhan advised Stewards that the mare was racing in season. Held up for clear racing room for the majority of the run home. Driver P Davis reported that he did not activate the removable deafeners.
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN - held up rounding the final bend.
Race 8   NELSON PINE INDUSTRIES NELSON CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
STARS TONIGHT - began awkwardly.
ROCKNROLL ROD - hung outwards in the home straight and shifted up the track. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
YORKSHIRE - tangled away. Over-raced middle stages. Became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of STARS TONIGHT and broke near the 900 metres after a slight easing of the pace.
RAH DE RAH - broke at the start.
HAYDEN'S MEDDLE - held-up on the home straight.
Race 9   TAYLORS CONTRACTING PACE
GOLDEN LACE - broke at the start. Had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
PINE CONE - weakened from the 700 metres. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
DYNAMITE - when questioned about disappointing performance driver J Cox advised the gelding had raced lethargically throughout and had to improve wide on the track from the 600 metres.
SHADOW PHANTASY - hung inwards throughout the home straight.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - paced roughly late in the run home.
SHINDAL - held up for clear racing room for the majority of the home straight.
Race 10   WOODLANDS STUD "DOWNBYTHESEASIDE" MOBILE PACE
HANDS UP JACK - held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home. Broke late in the run home. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(5) alleging the gelding was in the incorrect gait when its nose reached the finish line in 4th place and was lapped on by MORDECAI. After viewing the replays and hearing from Stewards and driver J Cox (HANDS UP JACK), the JCA upheld the protest and HANDS UP JACK was relegated to 5th place.
MISTER MIGHTY - crowded in the score up and was back slightly at the start.
SOUNDSLIKEART - hung inwards in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
MORDECAI - briefly held up early stages of the run home.
SHEELASINLEAGUE - out of position at start. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Weakened on the final bend.
