Race 1   GEORGE SHAND MEMORIAL TROT
SUPERFAST LAD - held up final bend.
MAKURA - shifted outwards rounding the final bend and throughout the home straight despite the efforts of driver R Close. Trotted roughly before breaking near the 100 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver R Close advised he was having considerable difficulty steering the horse over the final 600 metres. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some minor lameness in a right hind leg. Stewards will follow up with the connections in the coming days.
KEN'S DREAM - trotted roughly shortly after the start.
MAJESTIC JAG - broke after 100 metres. Broke again near the 1300 metres hampering trailing runners. Weakened final bend.
LINE A LOVE - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1300 metres. Weakened final bend.
COSMIC SUN - over-raced middle stages.
TRIXTON TIME - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1300 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver B Orange could offer no explanation and was disappointed with the effort. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
KD HAWK - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1300 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver S McNally advised that given the horse's previous recent history of breaking during the running, he was pleased with the improved performance today despite not finishing in the placings.
Race 2   MORRISONS SADDLERY & FEED MOBILE PACE
JAFFA - over-raced middle stages.
FRAUD - a false start was declared when FRAUD broke both hopple connecting straps in the score up. Stewards declared FRAUD a late scratching due to being unable to start without unreasonable delay. This gear was inspected and found to be in previously good condition.
AMERICAN FLYER - when questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer S Roulston advised he had changed the mare's bit and figure 8 nose band, she had been checked in her previous start and this was the horse's second race on an all weather surface which she had previously raced well on.
ONEDIN SMILER - broke briefly at the start checking outside runners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Weakened leaving the final bend.
DON'T TELL ANGE - checked at the start. Struck pylons final bend. Held up early stages of the run home.
IRON WOMAN - checked at the start. Paced roughly near the 800 metres.
SOCIAL MEDIA - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
EMMA G - over-raced early and middle stages. Hung inwards in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
Race 3   EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES MOBILE TROT
DD'S SUPER STUART - out of position at the start. Will now be drawn unruly for mobile starts at the request of the connections. Broke again at the 600 metres. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
DEBORAHS GEM - broke at the 500 metres.
CROWN RANGE - trotted roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start.
JAW D NANCY - trotted roughly in the score up and was back from the unruly position at the start. Raced three wide in the early stages. Trotted roughly and broke near the 1300 metres. Broke again near the 400 metres.
Race 4   PORT BLAKELY MOBILE PACE
ALONSO - broke racing into the first bend. Driver T Chmiel advised his sulky tyre deflated near the 1000 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had fibrillated. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
PERAKI REACTOR - trainer G Payne advised the horse has been gelded since last racing.
EVER SO BETTOR - hampered by a breaking runner racing into the first bend.
K MACH - hung inwards early stages and broke after 200 metres losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's racing record. Trainer K Kelly advised that it was her intention to make gear changes.
Race 5   NIGHT 'N DAY PARK PACE
ROLLING ON - raced ungenerously and broke briefly near the 1400 metres hampering trailing runners. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver T Williams advised the gelding had raced greenly when being restrained. He further advised that the trainer had changed several items of gear following a recent trial and the horse had hung outwards and had proved difficult to steer for the remainder of the race. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
MALDITO - fractious prior to the start causing a delay and sent to the unruly position. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial from a stand and declared unruly for future standing starts. Trainer V Sell advised she would be restricting the horse to mobile starts in the immediate future.
AUCHTERCAIRN - over-raced middle stages. Hung inwards and broke near the 350 metres. Driver J Young-Grant reported that the mare had hung out after she activated the sliding blinds and she would be recommending they be removed for future starts.
ART COLLECTOR - raced wide early stages.
MISSMOLLYGOODGOLLY - broke briefly at the start. Hung inwards in the early stages of the run home.
BRUCE - very slow to begin and got back as a result. Over-raced middle stages and as a result became awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of ROYAL XCHANGE.
STRONG ENOUGH - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2100 metres.
GOTTAGETTABEER - broke near the 2100 metres hampering trailing runner. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.
ROYAL XCHANGE - hampered near the 1400 metres.
DASH FOR CASH - knocked a barrier attendant to the ground when proving difficult before the start. The attendant was unharmed in this incident. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial from a stand. Paced roughly near the 2100 metres before being hampered despite the efforts of driver T Chmiel and raced inside the marker line for a short distance. Trainer R Low reported the gelding will now be sent for a spell. Broke near the 2100 metres.
Race 6   MORE FM MOBILE TROT
MDINA - driver C Butt was cautioned for the manner in which he used his whip over the concluding stages.
JUSTAN'S SISTER - trotted roughly in the home straight.
MONRIKA - driver T Chmiel reported that he briefly locked wheels with ALVIRA HEST late in the score up.
ALVIRA HEST - briefly locked wheels with MONRIKA late in the score up.
MISSIE CASTLETON - weakened from the 600 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver C Markham advised it was his intention to settle back however he had ended up leading due to the mare racing too keenly which had been detrimental to her finishing the race off competitively.
JERRY GARCIA - cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 7   NEXT MEETING WEDNESDAY 15 JANUARY HANDICAP PACE
LINTON SHARD - stood on the mark.
PRECIOUS SARA - over-raced near the 1400 metres.
FEAR ROCKN - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver J Young-Grant was warned regarding her use of the whip in the home straight and specifically for allowing it to project outside the confines of the sulky.
JENORA - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
SECRET BET - over-raced for a short distance near the 1500 metres.
Race 8   LASER ELECTRICAL TIMARU MOBILE PACE
DELIGHTFUL TANNER - trainer/driver K Cox was issued with a warning for being late to present her horse onto the track. Paced roughly on the final bend when weakening.
TALL POPPY - driver L McKay (assisted by L McCormick) admitted using her whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After viewing replays and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
SWEET MARY - Stewards questioned driver K Tomlinson, in the presence of trainer B Mowbray, regarding her drive on SWEET MARY and specifically her tactics from the 1000 metres. Miss Tomlinson advised that she had hoped to obtain a covered run into the race behind OVERARM however when this did not eventuate she elected to maintain her position towards the rear of the field until the 500 metres when she did obtain cover behind that runner. Miss Tomlinson advised that the mare races better when able to be driven with a sit which she said was evident with the way the horse had finished off the race. Trainer B Mowbray confirmed that he had instructed Miss Tomlinson to obtain cover if possible due to the horse being disappointing at its previous start when having to race in the open. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Mowbray and the explanation of Miss Tomlinson however advised her that in similar circumstances she would be expected to show greater initiative in order to be more competitive.
Race 9   CHAMPIONS OF SEADOWN MOBILE PACE
GOODTHINGSTAKETIME - lay in under pressure on the final bend and struck several track markers.
SHOT IN THE DARK - hung outwards near the 1100 metres.
ESSENCE OF EASTON - raced wide early stages.
PEMBROOK LEGACY - underwent and passed a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having raced for a length of time. Cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 10   BROSNAN TRANSPORT PASSING LANE MOBILE PACE
SHARDAN SUZIE - a false start was declared when SHARDAN SUZIE broke in the initial stages of the score up checking a trailing runner. Driver G O'Reilly elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
GEOFF'S LEGACY - the off side number had to be re-attached causing a delay to the re-start. Held up early stages of the run home.
MY NIKAYLA - held up between the 800 metres and the 600 metres by a weakening runner losing considerable ground. Hung inwards rounding the final bend despite the efforts of its driver.
PLAYBOY PRINCE - raced wide early stages. Weakened final bend.
CHIEF KAPAI - raced wide early and middle stages. Weakened from the 800 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had fibrillated. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to completing one satisfactory trial.
