Race 1   CROMWELL NIGHT 'N DAY ON JOLLYS ROAD TROT
DORA EXPLORER - fractious prior to the start. Placed on the Unruly for future standing start engagements.
SUNNY VALLEY - broke shortly after the start.
MAINLAND PAT - weakened from the 800 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
WHANGAMATA - broke after 200 metres. Authorisation of promoted 5th placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
KIWITRIX - broke near the 600 metres. Trainer/driver N Williamson advised he would be adding half hopples to the gear of the gelding for upcoming engagements.
BONNIES DELIGHT - broke shortly after the start. Broke again on several occasions during the running. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
SLAINTE - reared prior to the start and was facing the wrong way when the start was effected losing its chance. Following this event the Stewards viewed the footage of the start and confirmed the gelding had been denied a fair start with SLAINTE subsequently declared a late scratching pursuant to Rule 213(1)(j).
SUSIES WAY - Hung inwards rounding the final bend before trotting roughly. Paced passing the 200 metres and had to be restrained into a break for some distance to return the mare to its correct gait. Stewards lodged a Protest against 5th placing being awarded alleging SUSIES WAY had breached the Breaking Horse Regulations when breaking in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres. Connections did not contest the Protest. After viewing relevant replays the JCA upheld the Protest and disqualified SUSIES WAY from 5th placing.
WILLANGUS LAD - broke near the 600 metres. Authorisation of 3rd placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
Race 2   BH20 PLUMBING LTD/PUTNEY ROOFING MOBILE PACE
WITH THE STARS - held up entering the home straight and again over the concluding stages. Driver B Barclay advised the mare had paced roughly on occasion during the running.
ROCKNGOODTIME - paced roughly passing the 1200 metres. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Broke over the concluding stages and shifted ground outwards.
Race 3   THE GATE CROMWELL/ALL THINGS HARNESS OWNERSHIP TROT
THE NIGHT SWEATS - broke entering the first bend.
JACCKA JEORGE - broke at the start. Again broke near the 700 metres when shifting ground outwards after a slight easing of the pace. Placed on the Unruly for future standing start engagements at the request of trainer B Gray.
DA MOONS MISSION - broke at the start.
MISS JESSICA - trotted roughly when hampered by a breaking runner passing the 2100 metres.
DREAM OF PAT - broke shortly after the start.
MATAI JETSTAR - trotted roughly over the concluding stages and broke shortly after the finish line.
BIG IRON - broke shortly after the start. Authorisation of 5th placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations at this stage of the race.
COUNT EYRE - broke at the start. Broke briefly entering the home straight.
ANDY HALL - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Shifted down the track abruptly over the concluding stages. Driver N Williamson was spoken to advisedly regarding his whip use outside the confines of the sulky.
Race 4   NEW WORLD CROMWELL/O'CALLAGHAN & WALKER BUILDERS MOB PACE
CLASSIE PRINCESS - raced wide in the early stages.
BALLROOM BEAUTY - paced roughly shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout and was taken wider on the track when pacing roughly near the 600 metres. Connections advised the filly would now be sent for a spell.
THE OPTIMIST - out of position at the start. Paced roughly when being shifted wider on the track near the 700 metres. Briefly hampered when racing four-wide passing the 650 metres.
Race 5   WOODLANDS MOTORS/SPEIGHTS ALEHOUSE PALMY NORTH MOB PACE
JACKS N JAZZ - driver M Williamson was spoken to advisedly regarding his obligation to maintain as straight a course as possible in the run home.
LADY'S LASS - slow to leave the pre-race circle and was out of position at the start. Driver T Robertson was issued a warning pursuant to Rule 857(7)(g). Weakened from the 400 metres.
I'M JIMMY JAMES - broke racing into the first bend settling back on the outer. When questioned regarding the performance driver M Jones advised the gelding had paced roughly on several occasions during the running and in his opinion may not have handled the grass track today.
Race 6   BAYLEYS CROMWELL/HOKONUI HONDA JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared when there was a malfunction with the sulky wheel of ALTIMETER.
ALTIMETER - weakened rounding the final bend.
JIMMY RICHTER - raced without front shoes. Raced wide in the early stages. Paced roughly and broke near the 700 metres losing all chance.
JACCKA TED - junior horseman J Campbell (who declined the assistance of a senior horseman) admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used the whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After viewing relevant replays and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
MAURICE - briefly hampered by a weakening runner rounding the final bend.
STAR RULER - paced roughly over the concluding stages.
CAB CALLOWAY - A post-race Veterinary examination on return to the stabling area revealed the gelding to have hematoma to the left knee consistent with the gelding having struck itself during the running. Connections were advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to CAB CALLOWAY racing next.
Race 7   REGAN TODD RACING STABLES/CLELAND RACING SYNDICATE PACE
ALLANDALE - broke at the start. Driver B Williamson was spoken to advisedly regarding the manner he shifted ground near the 350 metres.
WOLF WEST - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Over-raced in the middle stages.
GROOMSMAN - hampered by a breaking runner leaving the final bend.
RAFA NOVAK - broke passing the 350 metres.
MELTON MAFIA - paced roughly and broke briefly when being shifted up the track near the 350 metres.
ROCKIN ROD - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. Paced roughly rounding the final bend.
SHINDAL - over-raced in the middle stages.
C R GOLD - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
Race 8   MEAD STARK CROMWELL/TIM WHITE FARRIER HANDICAP TROT
SEKKIE MONKEY - broke negotiating the first bend losing considerable ground.
HUMBLE LADD - broke passing the 600 metres and on further occasions rounding the final bend. Authorisation of promoted 5th placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
WHATWILLBEEWILLBEE - broke passing the 1000 metres. Broke again passing the 200 metres and continued in a break for some distance. Stewards lodged a Protest against 4th placing being awarded alleging WHATWILLBEEWILLBEE had breached the Breaking Horse Regulations when breaking in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres. Connections did not contest the Protest. After viewing relevant replays the JCA upheld the Protest and disqualified WHATWILLBEEWILLBEE from 4th placing.
Race 9   RIVER ROCK ESTATE/CROMWELL BREWHOUSE BUSINESSES CUP MOB PACE
GOOD ON YA KIWI - broke in the score-up and was out of position at the start. Driver S Walkinshaw was spoken to advisedly regarding his use of the whip outside the confines of the sulky.
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ - over-raced in the early stages.
TEAM KIWI - shifted inwards into the Passing Lane in the run home. Trainer/driver R Holmes was spoken to advisedly to ensure he leaves full access to the Passing Lane for trailing runners at all times. Mr Holmes reported he would be making gear alterations prior to the mare racing next.
Race 10   PGG WRIGHTSON REAL ESTATE/GOLDEN VIEW LIFESTYLE CUP HCP PACE
There was a delay to the start due to several horses proving fractious in the strong wind.
GLEN ELGIN TOMSON - broke briefly at the start before being hampered by a breaking runner shortly after.
MACH'S BACK - broke at the start.
TRIROYALE BRIGADE - broke at the start. Broke again over the concluding stages.
IDEAL DRAW - raced five-wide from the 600 metres.
Race 11   TOPLINE FENCING/INTERNATIONAL GARDEN RESCUE MOBILE PACE
THE NIGHT WATCHMAN - broke shortly after the start hampering CARTER. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Held up over the concluding stages with driver R McIlwrick reporting that due to this he did not activate the removable deafeners and sliding blinds applied to the gelding.
ROCK TO THE BOSS - hung inwards in the early stages. Hampered by a breaking runner racing into the first bend.
DYSLEXIC - hung outwards racing into the first bend hampering YANKEE SHARD.
YANKEE SHARD - paced roughly over the early stages. Hampered racing into the first bend and broke briefly as a consequence. Paced roughly rounding the final bend and again over the concluding stages.
NEW YORK MAN - hampered by a breaking runner racing into the first bend.
CARTER - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
THE INTERCEPTOR - hampered by a breaking runner racing into the first bend.
Race 12   MACCA LODGE/GOODMAN PLUMBING LTD MOBILE PACE
VIN SCULLY - broke when racing to the inside of MOTORING MAJOR entering the first bend and locked wheels with COOLHAND EASTON, losing considerable ground.
MOTORING MAJOR - shifted inwards racing into the first bend making contact with VIN SCULLY on his inside, which broke with trailing runners being checked. Junior Driver M Hurrell with the assistance of Senior Driver C Ferguson defended a charge of Careless Driving the particulars being that he allowed his runner to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of VIN SCULLY on his inside which broke in consequence. After viewing relevant replays and hearing evidence from the Stewards, Mr R Holmes (VIN SCULLY), Mr Hurrell and Mr Ferguson the JCA found the charge proven and following submissions on penalty imposed a suspension of Mr Hurrell's Junior Driver's licence from conclusion of racing on the 9th January up to and including the 15th January inclusive (3 days)
MOSSDALE LOTTEE - broke over the concluding stages.
LOCK IT IN EDDIE - hampered near the 1500 metres losing considerable ground.
NIRVANA BEACH - hampered near the 1500 metres losing considerable ground.
JACKS N JAZZ - late scratching at 2.25 pm (dual acceptor)
LITE PERCUSSION - late scratching at 11.30 am due to transport difficulties.
COOLHAND EASTON - hampered racing into the first bend and locked wheels with VIN SCULLY, losing its chance and eventually being retired from the race.
