Race Comments
Race 1 WELCOME MATT CROSS AMATEUR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE | |
---|---|
XMAS BAY - paced roughly around the final bend. Driver M Stratford admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations and the JCA imposed a fine of $200. | |
HIGHLAND REIGN - Stewards questioned driver S Murtha regarding his decision to remain in the one out line rounding the first bend when an opportunity existed for him to obtain the trail behind OPAWA MACH. Mr Murtha explained that his initial intention was to improve to the lead after he was aware that XMAS BAY had been unsuccessful in its attempt of challenging OPAWA MACH however DOCTOR TIM had improved outside him rounding the first bend leaving him to race without cover for some distance. Mr Murtha added that he had been reluctant to trail OPAWA MACH in the early stages due to OPAWA MACH's usual racing pattern of taking cover and he felt he would be pushed back further on the marker line if OPAWA MACH had relinquished the front as he had anticipated. After considering Mr Murtha's explanation, Stewards took the matter no further. | |
RAINY RIVER - hung outwards late in the score up and was back slightly at the start. Forced to race wider on the track near the 1600 metres when DONEGAL CARRICKFIN shifted outwards. | |

UNICO ENCHANTRESS - when questioned regarding the performance, driver M Maynard advised that he had become poorly positioned towards the rear of the field and after shifting to a three wide position near the 600 metres, BUSH MAN and ROYAL JESTER had improved wider on the track ahead of him. Mr Maynard added that he felt his best option was to improve inwards and save ground instead of improving very wide on the track due to the fast closing sectionals of the race. Stewards noted Mr Maynard's comments. | |
MR MIDNIGHT - raced wide into the first bend. Hung outwards throughout the run home. Stewards questioned driver B Wilmott regarding the tactics he adopted in the middle stages when electing not to improve his position. Mr Wilmott explained that he had been instructed to drive the horse with cover and due to the horses in the running line not progressing forward he had been unable to improve his position. Mr Wilmott added that rather than being forced very wide on the final bend he elected to shift inwards and save ground. Stewards noted Mr Wilmott's comments. | |
