Stewards questioned Drivers R McIlwrick (COTTON SOCKS) and J Cox (DYNAMITE) regarding this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing from both drivers, it was established that COTTON SOCKS had shifted ground outwards in an acceptable manner however DYNAMITE had raced greenly and hung inwards despite the efforts of Mr Cox and as a result had made contact with the sulky wheel of COTTON SOCKS. After considering the matter, no further action was deemed necessary.
LOISSONYA - weakened from the 500 metres.
HANS IDEAL - briefly held up near the 250 metres.
WITH THE STARS - hampered by a breaking runner at the start. Held up on the final bend. Stewards questioned Driver M Williamson regarding the tactics he adopted near the 750 metres when electing to shift ground inwards to race on the marker line. Mr Williamson explained that WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE which he was following had lost its position and was under pressure and for this reason he felt his best option was to save ground and improve to the inside of WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE before shifting that runner wider on the track. Mr Williamson added that once he had shifted inwards WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE had responded to the urgings of its driver and improved forwards resulting in him being held up for some distance. After considering Mr Williamson's explanation, Stewards were satisfied that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
