Race Comments
Race 1 CARRIERS ARMS HOTEL FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE | |
---|---|
MAIDONTHEBEACH - weakened rounding the final bend. | |
MAJOR SASS - lay inwards and paced roughly in the score-up. | |
ROCKABILLY BLUES - raced keenly and got its head up throughout the score-up. |
Race 2 MACCA LODGE FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE | |
---|---|
PRETTY AZZ - lay inwards through the early stages, then paced roughly and broke before falling to the track, dislodging driver A Milne from the sulky. Escaped driver-less for some distance before again falling to the track resulting in the Stewards stopping the race on safety grounds with Mr Milne lying motionless on the running line. Following an examination St John Ambulance Paramedics Mr Milne was stood down from his remaining driving engagement today and subsequently transferred to Invercargill Hospital for further observation. PRETTY AZZ underwent a veterinary examination and was found to have suffered abrasions and minor lacerations. Declared a Late Scratching at 12.59 pm from the rerun of the race. Stood down to trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion and a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to PRETTY AZZ racing next. Mr Milne was advised a Medical clearance would be required prior to him driving next. | |
CHURRASCO - lost contact with the field near the 700 metres and compounded soon after, being distanced over the final stages, finishing in excess of 20 lengths away from the winner. When spoken to regarding the performance driver M Williamson could offer no tangible explanation. Stewards will follow up with the connections in the coming days. | |
PRINCESS DANICA - raced keenly through the middle stages. | |
SHEZDAWON - sustained a punctured sulky tyre racing into the first bend. Held up by a tiring runner between the 400 metres and the 300 metres. | |
RAZCAL ALLEY - raced wide in the early stages. | |
KICKUPYAHEELS - over-raced in the early stages which resulted in the mare making contact with the sulky wheel of SHEZDAWON racing into the first bend. Driver R Swain advised he did not activate the removable deafeners applied to the mare due to having the field covered. | |
AURELIA COTTA - slow to leave the pre-race circle and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Lay outwards under pressure on the final bend. |
Race 3 RYDER PLUMBING & ROOFING MOBILE PACE | |
---|---|
IDEAL GLACIER - lay outwards rounding the bend near the 900 metres. | |
KENNEDY - junior driver B Laughton replaced A Milne as driver due to the incident in the previous race. Over-raced near the 1400 metres when being restrained to surrender the parked position. Lay inwards entering the bend near the 900 metres resulting in the gelding losing several lengths. Weakened thereafter and was distanced over the final stages. | |
THE MIGHTY CULLEN - improved outwards passing the 1300 metres forcing KRAMER (S Ottley) to race wider on the track. Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule and spoke with Mr P Hunter (THE MIGHTY CULLEN) and Miss Ottley regarding this. Mr Hunter explained that his gelding had been racing fiercely leading up to this and when he became aware that KRAMER was improving he immediately began to shift outwards, however his runner had been slower to react than anticipated, leading to him inconveniencing KRAMER for a short distance. After giving this and Miss Ottley's evidence consideration, the matter was taken no further other than to remind Mr Hunter what would be expected in similar circumstances going forward. Weakened rounding the final bend. | |
KRAMER - paced roughly through the early stages. Forced to race wider on the track near the 1300 metres when THE MIGHTY CULLEN improved outwards from its inside. | |
TOUCHE - hampered by a weakening runner near the 900 metres. | |

PHOEBE'S DELIGHT - momentarily hampered in the score-up and was slightly out of position at the start. | |
MAGNETIC CHIME - lay outwards rounding the first bend. Hung and raced roughly on occasions during the running, causing driver B Barclay some difficulty. Mr Barclay reported he could not activate the removable deafeners applied to the mare due to the cord breaking. When examined by the Stewards the gear was found to be in good condition. |
Race 4 TODD & CO REALTY MOBILE PACE | |
---|---|
ELVA JACCKA - paced roughly over the final stages. | |
WHATA RAZZLE DAZZLE - driver B Orange advised he was unable to activate the sliding blinds applied to the gelding due to the cord becoming entangled. When spoken to regarding the improved performance trainer B Norman explained the horse had recently been placed back in the draw after having spent some time on the Unruly and since such time had been driven conservatively to not risk any further indiscretions. Mr Norman added the gelding had been racing well and today was able to be driven in a forward position from a handy draw. Mr Norman further advised that due to these factors and today's driver change he had been confident of a forward showing. | |
MAAHES - broke in the score-up hampering AMERICAN MAC and necessitating a false start be declared. Driver K Barclay elected to remain in her allotted position for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. | |
WOODLEA SHAWN - raced wide until near the 1000 metres. | |
PRINCE ABBEY - when questioned regarding the performance of the gelding trainer/driver P Hunter expressed his disappointment however could offer no tangible explanation. | |

When questioned regarding the performance driver B Barclay was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than to advise the gelding can be prone to a poor performance without warning or explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart-rate. Stewards will follow up with trainer B Gray in the coming days after he intimated he would have blood tests carried out. | |
UNLOADED - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. |
