Mr McNaught, accompanied by Senior Horseman N Williamson, advised that his horse was under pressure as he had earlier activated the sliding blinds and then the plugs at the 300 metres with little response from his horse. He added that the gelding only has a maximum sprint of 150 metres and so he was waiting as late as possible for one run. Stewards noted Mr McNaughts explanation.

ROCKIN ROD - paced roughly exiting the final bend. Driver M Williamson was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted from approximately the 600 metres when he restrained from three deep on the running and elected to take a wider run instead of retaining his position and accessing the passing lane. Mr Williamson explained that he had noticed at the time the lead horse (KOTARE ELITE) was under significant pressure and felt that that horse was likely to soon weaken.
