Race 1   TURF SOLUTIONS (AMATEUR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
I'M SICK OF EXCUSES - lay inwards leaving the bend passing the 900 metres making contact with several track markers.
AVEROSS FERRARI - trainer D O'Connell was charged a $25 colour fee. Amateur driver C Wigg was shown the films and warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
DEN'S LEGACY - raced wide from the 1000 metres. Weakened from the 500 metres.
KRUIZR - Amateur driver W Parsons was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted from the 800 metres where he failed to improve his position in the three wide line when the opportunity was presented. Mr Parsons explained that he was reluctant to follow DEN'S LEGACY as he felt that runner was not likely to advance his position far into the race. He added that his runner had recently been racing in a less than genuine manner when in tight quarters and was mindful of putting him into a position where he would have to jostle to hold his place. Trainer M House advised that it was his intention to make gear alterations in an attempt to have the horse travel better during the middle stages. After considering the submissions Stewards accepted his explanation. Driver W Parsons admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations and was fined $200.

Mr Cameron advised at the time, UNIQUE MARSHALL had improved sharply to his outside and felt that runner was racing better than the horse he was following (JERRY GARCIA), so he decided come out of his trailing position. He added that his horse had battled in the conditions on the inside of the track which was also a reason for his decision and that his horse had only battled from the 400 metres. Stewards accepted Mr Cameron's explanation.
