Race Comments

Race 1   DOUG BRADLEY PAINTERS HANDICAP TROT
THE PEAKY BLINDER - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
GRENADO - broke near the 2100 metres and trailed the field.
BELMONT'S GREATEST - improved to lead near the 1350 metres but over-raced before weakening from the 400 metres to finish in 4th place beaten 6.8 lengths. Driver B Orange confirmed that the gelding had over-raced during the middle stages due to contacting the sulky wheel with a hind leg. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.
SOL INVICTUS - slow early from its 35 metre handicap. Trotted roughly rounding the final turn.
Race 2   STONEY CREEK BUTCHERY MOBILE PACE
KATAMACH - over-raced and then broke passing the 1100 metres losing ground and inconveniencing trailing runners and was taken down into the passing lane. Continued to race erratically for some distance before weakening from the 500 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. When questioned Junior Driver B Butcher advised that he felt the mare had commenced to choke down. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners record.
CONTRACTUAL ISSUES - over-raced entering the first turn. Hampered by a weakening runner racing down the back straight the final time. Paced roughly passing the 250 metres after contacting the sulky wheel of WAINGARO MARA. Driver M Heaton admitted an associated charge of careless driving in this incident and the JCA suspended his Drivers Licence from the conclusion of racing on 26 May 2019 up to and including 23 June 2019 (two days). Mr Heaton also admitted a further charge under Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted under clause (b) of the 'Use of the Whip' Regulation and was fined $300 by the JCA. Driver M Heaton was questioned as to his reasons for following KATAMACH down into the passing lane near the 1000 metres when that runner raced erratically. Mr Heaton stated that with hindsight he had erred in following KATAMACH down but that he had expected to follow that runner when it shifted back out to regain its position however WAINGARO MARA had shifted out off his back and improved to his outside approaching the 950 metres which prevented him from shifting ground back out to regain his rightful position. Mr Heaton was reprimanded and advised that he would be expected to show better judgment in similar circumstances in the future.
WAINGARO MARA - raced three wide early and middle stages before crossing to race outside the leader near the 1250 metres.
BETTOR LADY - back from position at dispatch. Driver S Doody was warned to maintain his position on the mobile until dispatch in the future.

ADIEU FLIRT - Driver J Abernethy was questioned regarding his decision not to shift to a three wide position approaching the 500 metres prior to be covered by FANCY SCHMANCY. ADIEU FLIRT had then been held up rounding the final turn before running on strongly over the final stages to finish in 3rd place beaten 1.3 lengths. Mr Abernethy stated that he had been reluctant to shift out at this stage as he felt that he would be forced wider in what was the mare's first start left handed for his stable and that he was unsure how she would have handled being caught wide after having laid in earlier in the event. Mr Abernethy further explained that he had unsuccessfully attempted to shift UNCLE DREW wider to follow FANCY SCHMANCY near the 450 metres and had then been held up and locked wheels briefly with XMAS BAY near the 300 metres before finishing on strongly once balanced up in the run home. Mr Abernethy's comments were noted.

ITSOKBEINGBETTER - paced roughly inside the 900 metres.

HONOUR THE BET - Driver P Ferguson admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) & Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations when he used his whip on more occasions that permitted driving the gelding over the final 400m. The JCA suspended his Horseman's licence from after the 31st of May 2019 up to and including the 14th of June 2019 (3 days)
