Race Comments

Race 1   PAUL CLARIDGE ELECTRICAL HANDICAP TROT
CAITLIN'S SURPRISE - inclined to lay out at various stages during the running.
SHE'S ALLTHE CRAZE - raced one out without cover inside the final 1100 metres and weakened out finishing in 7th place beaten 12.3 lengths. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Driver P Ferguson could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
SOL INVICTUS - trotted unevenly rounding the home turn and in the run home. Trainer J Abernethy was cautioned after the deafeners failed to activate.
Race 2   CARTOWN MOBILE PACE
TWO FIFTYEIGHT - held up rounding the final turn and throughout the run home. Driver Z Butcher advised that he was unable to activate the removable deafeners as a result. Stewards questioned Mr Butcher as to why he had elected not to improve earlier than the 550 metres after which point he became covered up. He advised that his driving instructions were to save the gelding for one run as it had not coped with working in its previous starts and that he felt shifting at this point would not have been to the gelding's advantage. His explanation was noted.
HE'S GRATIS - paced roughly late in the score up and was a length out of position at the start.
DOWNTOWN BABE - hung inward over the initial stages and raced wide early when being restrained towards the rear of the field. Raced four wide from inside the final 700 metres. Raced erratically rounding the final turn and weakened.
PROP ROCK - pulled fiercely in the score up and during the running giving A Harrison a difficult drive. Held up final turn and the early stages of the run home.
FINAL DELIGHT - held up rounding the final turn and ran on strongly when clear inside the final 70 metres.
Race 3   MANELINE FARRIER SUPPLIES MOBILE PACE
XMAS BAY - weakened inside the final 300 metres and locked sulky wheels briefly with FANCY SCHMANCY.
MISTER MIGHTY - broke early in the score up and trailed the field throughout. The gelding was declared unruly for mobile starts.
GEOFF'S LEGACY - raced keenly through the middle stages.
FANCY SCHMANCY - raced four back on the outer before commencing to improve three wide from inside the 400 metres. Inconvenienced and lost momentum when locking sulky wheels with the weakening XMAS BAY near the 300 metres before finishing on into 7th place beaten 3.9 lengths.
MADIBA - Driver S Doody admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip more than permitted by clause (b) of the 'Use Of The Whip' Regulations inside the final 400 metres. The JCA imposed a fine of $300.
Race 4   ROYDON WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY MOBILE PACE
CONTRACTUAL ISSUES - over-raced when being restrained to take a trail entering the back straight the first time and raced keenly thereafter.
RED RIVER DASH - broke losing several lengths at the rear of the field approaching the 700 metres. A charge under Rule 869(4) was lodged against Driver J Abernethy on the grounds that he attempted to improve outwards inside of KATAMACH when not in a position to do so causing his own mare to break approaching the 700 metres. The charge was admitted and the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
JINGLES BROMAC - raced three wide early.
