The track was downgraded to slushy prior to Race One. Subsequent to this the mobile barrier arm was tested unsuccessfully and it was decided the first race would be started by means of a moving start.

Due to the prevailing track conditions, Stewards applied discretion when issuing penalties against horses.

Pre-race blood testing was carried out on selected horses.

Race 1 - SPACE REINSTATEMENTS MOBILE PACE
Trainer R Holmes advised Stewards on 5 April that blood tests taken from GOOD ON YA KIWI after racing at Addington on 22 February showed no abnormalities. However soon after this the entire developed a hoof infection which was treated during a brief spell.

Race 8 - ALLIED SECURITY-KIA KAHA CHRISTCHURCH SUPERSTARS (MOB PACE)
Trainer B Purdon advised Stewards on 3 April that blood tests taken from JACK'S LEGEND subsequent to its disappointing performance at Addington last week showed no abnormalities adding that the gelding had worked very well this week in preparation for its Easter Cup engagement.
Race 9 - RM WOOLFORD BUILDERS LTD MOBILE TROT
Trainer P Nairn advised Stewards on 3 April that RONALD J has been treated for an elevated white cell count since racing at Addington last week.

Race 1   CHRISTCHURCH CASINO MOBILE PACE
PATS DRAGON - held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend.
GRAN CHICO - jumped a mark on the track immediately prior to release having to be restrained.
KOTARE CULLEN - weakened final bend.
NANDOLO - hung inwards and raced greenly when unsuccessfully challenging for the lead nearing the 1400 metres. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter.
MIKEY MAGUIRE - held up for clear racing room through the early and middle stages of the run home.
Race 2   PI & GJ KENNARD BLOODSTOCK PACE
GUIDO DA SIENA - broke at the start. Paced roughly nearing the 1100 metres when racing three wide. Continued to pace roughly and was eased wider on the track and retired from the event passing the 800 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver B Orange reported the gelding to have struck a knee. A post-race veterinary examination showed no abnormalities.
SENORITA MARGARITA - broke at the start. Broke again near the 900 metres.
TIEBREAKER - broke at the start.
JUST BEN - weakened passing the 500 metres. Driver M Williamson reported the gelding had not been comfortable in the prevailing track conditions
MAGICAL MELLISSA - raced three wide through the early and middle stages. Made an unsuccessful attempt for the parked position near the 1800 metres and was then restrained to the back of the field. Under pressure from the 1300 metres and was distanced over the final stages. When questioned regarding the performance, driver J Cox was unable to offer any explanation. Trainer K Fairbairn explained that the mare had to work too hard in the early stages and especially considering the rise in calibre of opposition today compared to what she had been racing against. A post-race veterinary examination showed no abnormalities.
IKNOW - broke at the start. Raced roughly on the bend approaching the 1000 metres.
RAKSBET - paced roughly in the early stages and had to be steadied. Weakened near the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination showed the gelding to be scouring with the Veterinarian administering treatment and recommending blood tests be carried out. Stewards will follow up with the connections in the coming days.
POSSENTE CAVALLO - weakened near the 600 metres.
Trainer R Todd advised Stewards on 12 April that blood tests taken from RAKSBET during the week revealed no abnormalities. Mr Todd added that the gelding has worked well since that race in preparation for a resumption at Winton on Saturday.
Race 3   INKWISE NEW ZEALAND TROTTING DERBY (MOBILE TROT)
LOTAMUSCLE - driver B Butt admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations. After penalty submissions, the JCA imposed a fine of $500 and suspended Mr Butt's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 8 April up to and including 24 April 2019 (5 days).
MONARO MARO - placed in restricted room racing into the first bend.
SWISS MISS - driver G Smith was cautioned regarding the manner he drove racing into the first bend when shifting down the track and crowding an inside runner.
CHEERFUL - raced wide from the 1200 metres.
MAJESTIC CHEVRON - weakened final bend.
ENHANCE YOUR CALM - Stewards spoke with driver M Purdon as to whether he could have displayed more vigour in the early stages of the run home to establish a bigger advantage over the trailing runners. Mr Purdon explained that his gelding had travelled well throughout however did not respond as anticipated when he released the deafeners near the 200 metres. He added it was the gelding's first attempt over 2600 metres and that combined with the track conditions may have contributed to its inability to quicken when asked for an effort.
FULL NOISE - raced keenly in the middle stages.
MIKEMARO - broke near the 250 metres.
GIL FAVOR - out of position at dispatch despite the efforts of driver P Nairn.
Race 4   RICOH MOBILE PACE
FRANCO TEXAS - over-raced middle stages. Raced fiercely when held up on the final bend.
LETTERKENNY BOY - raced roughly in the score up and in the early stages. Raced wide from the 1300 metres. Driver N Rasmussen reported the gelding had not been suited by tonight's track conditions.
BIRD OF PARADISE - driver M Anderson was issued with a warning for attempting to maintain a position in the two wide line racing into the first bend when not entitled to do so and as a result became awkwardly positioned to the sulky of KIWIS ARE FLYING for a short distance.
KOTARE YOLANDE - raced roughly in the early stages. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Driver G Smith reported that in his opinion the filly may have choked down.
THE DUDE - raced roughly in the score up and was out of position at dispatch. Broke briefly racing into the first bend.
Race 5   FRED SHAW MEMORIAL NZ TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIP (MOBILE TROT)
KINGS LANDING - trotted roughly throughout.
SPEEDING SPUR - shifted outwards under pressure through the final straight. Driver J Dickie was issued with a warning for failing to correct his entire. Driver J Dickie admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations. After penalty submissions, the JCA suspended Mr Dickie's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 12 April up to and including 22 April 2019 (3 days).
MARCOOLA - slightly inconvenienced near the 400 metres by a breaking runner. Failed to run on thereafter. When questioned regarding the performance, driver C Ford advised that after losing momentum as a result of a galloping runner on the final bend, the entire had raced lethargically which he attributed to the track conditions and this being its first race since 26 January (Australia). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SUNDEES SON - trotted roughly passing the 50 metres and broke nearing the 30 metres. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations and was not lapped on at the finish. Stewards spoke with driver J Dunn regarding being taken wider through the final straight however Mr Dunn advised this had no bearing on his chances.
WINTERFELL - raced keenly early and middle stages. Raced wide from the 1300 metres. Weakened from the 500 metres. Broke at the 400 metres.
ONE OVER DA STARS - broke when attempting to improve near the 1500 metres.
Race 6   AVON CITY FORD NEW ZEALAND WELCOME STAKES (MOBILE PACE)
ABOVE N BEYOND - raced roughly shortly after the start and had to be steadied. Had to be restrained racing into the first bend when racing in restricted room. Stewards questioned drivers J Dunn (ABOVE N BEYOND) and J Dickie (MACH DA VINCI) and adjourned the matter to give it further consideration.
J Dickie (MACH DA VINCI) defended an alleged breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that racing into the first bend he shifted down the track when not clear of ABOVE N BEYOND. After considering all evidence the charge was dismissed.
Race 7   BRECKON FARMS/ALL STARS RACING STABLES EASTER CUP (HCP PACE)
LETSPENDANITETOGETHA - broke at the start losing its chance and was retired from the event.
HENRY HUBERT - broke at the start.
A G'S WHITE SOCKS - reared and shifted up the track as the start was effected.
EAMON MAGUIRE - weakened final bend.
ALTA ORLANDO - broke at the start.
Race 8   MICO PLUMBING HORNBY HANDICAP TROT
SUNNY GLENIS - driver R Anderson admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations and was fined $200.
TAKE AFTER ME - tangled away. Driver R Houghton admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of the Whip Regulations. After penalty submissions, the JCA suspended Mr Houghton's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing at Rangiora HRC on 7 April up to and including 12 May 2019 (9 days).
MARIA TSARINA - broke at the start.
JUSTAMOLLYARCHER - raced keenly in the parked position through the middle stages. Gave ground approaching the 600 metres.
THEODOSIA - broke briefly leaving the final bend.
MICHELLE - checked and broke soon after the start.
ONE OVER DA SKYE - broke at the 2100 metres.
SIOUX PRINCESS - broke at the start.
WEE MAN TROUBLE - checked soon after the start and broke losing ground.
DIDJABRINGTHEBEERS - began awkwardly.
MAJESTIC HURRICANE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Weakened from the 700 metres.
BELLES SON - trainer R Todd was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice after stable runners BELLES SON and MISSANDEI were presented with the incorrect saddlecloth numbers. Broke near the 1600 metres. Broke again near the 1100 metres.
Race 9   DIAMOND CREEK FARM NEW ZEALAND PACING DERBY (MOBILE PACE)
Stewards will speak with trainers T Barron (GLOBAL DOMINATION), R Wilson (ROBYNS PLAYBOY) and P Robertson (CHILLER BAY) regarding their runners being late onto the track.
CAST NO SHADOW - broke briefly racing into the first bend and settled at the back of the field. Over-raced in the middle stages.
MEMPHIS TENNESSEE - over-raced for a short distance near the 2200 metres and had to be steadied.
STARS TONIGHT - raced roughly in the early stages.
DADNDAVE - broke near the 400 metres.
MR YIPS - late scratching at 7.55pm on veterinary advice due to nasal discharge. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
P Robertson was fined $200 for presenting CHILLER BAY late onto the track.
R Wilson was fined $200 for presenting ROBYNS PLAYBOY late onto the track.
Driver M Williamson was fined $100 for being late to present GLOBAL DOMINATION onto the track.
Race 10   BLUE STAR TAXIS MOBILE PACE
BETTATHANFAST - when questioned regarding the performance, driver M Purdon advised the gelding had received every opportunity and was unable to offer any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
DOUBLE O HEAVEN - broke just prior to dispatch losing considerable ground. Authorisation of 5th placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the mare had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations in the early stages.
NAKURU - paced roughly on the first bend.
CHEVRON SUPREME - driver J Dunn reported the filly to have over-raced throughout.
