Drivers N Williamson, S Tomlinson and J Morrison were unable to attend today's meeting due to flight delays because of adverse weather conditions (fog) resulting in the closure of Invercargill Airport.

Due to the flights not landing in Invercargill Race one (Junior drivers) became short of eligible drivers through the removal of S Tomlinson and J Morrison. Two local trial licence holders, T Larsen and J Forbes were considered for an upgrade to Junior Horsemen for this race. After accepting that both had demonstrated the necessary level of competency at trials and workouts, the proposal was put to the connections of SPURRED BY SUCCESS and OUR FOXY LADY who advised the suggested arrangement was agreeable. Stewards then requested a ruling from the JCA as to whether this should occur. The JCA ruled that both replacements could be made with those changes effected.

Race 1   STIRLING AUTO REPAIRS / CLEAN-BIZ JUNIOR DRIVERS TROT
LADY ZARA - driver M Hurrell reported the mare had hung inwards badly throughout.
SPURRED BY SUCCESS - fractious prior to the barrier being released. Trotted roughly throughout. Weakened rounding the final bend.
OUR FOXY LADY - driver J Forbes with the assistance of Mr C Barron was shown the films and spoken to advisedly regarding his whip use and striking track markers near the 300 metres.
ABBY MAY - had to be steadied near the 2000 metres when placed in restricted room to the inside of HORSE OF COURSE which was improving to the lead.
HORSE OF COURSE - driver T Dewe was warned to exercise care when shifting ground near the 2000 metres.
VENETO - hampered by a breaking runner near the 800 metres.
HUMBLE LADD - trotted roughly and broke near the 800 metres. Broke again passing the 400 metres.
Race 2   SOUTHLAND HARNESS AWARDS LADYSHIP FINAL MOBILE PACE
OPAL - held up by a tiring runner passing the 450 metres.
BETTERTHANSPRAYING - weakened from the 600 metres finishing a distance from the winner. When questioned regarding the performance driver A Beck could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow recovery with a slight nasal discharge. Stewards will follow up the recovery of BETTERTHANSPRAYING with trainer B Gray in the coming days.
MISS V C - hung on various occasions throughout the running. Held up leaving the final bend.
RAKABEACH - broke shortly after the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
SOUTHERN RAIN - hampered by a breaking runner approaching the first bend.
Trainer B Gray advised Stewards on 3 April that BETTERTHANSPRAYING is having a brief freshen up after racing at Invercargill last week and will return to workouts and/or trials before resuming.
Race 3   AUTOSURE MOBILE PACE
DREAMINSOVER - held up leaving the final bend.
SNOWY DANA - raced keenly in the middle stages.
THISEXCUSEBETTERBEIT - hung outwards in the score-up and was back slightly at the start. Raced wide from the 1200 metres.
JAFFIE J - over-raced in the middle stages.
DELIGHT N GOLD - hampered by a tiring runner passing the 350 metres.
ARTICULATE - weakened from the 400 metres.
DAYS OF CHANGE - refused to participate in the pre-race circle and took no part in the event. Declared a non-runner by order of the Stewards pursuant to Rule 213(1)(e) for unsatisfactory manners. Stood down from mobile starts until the completion of two satisfactory trials.
Race 4   MAGNUM AUTOMOTIVE GROUP MOBILE PACE
KIWI JEWEL - paced roughly in the early stages when being restrained to take cover.
JACCKA TED - held up rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
IDEAL RON - raced three-wide without cover through the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the final bend.
MAJOR BOND - weakened from the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
FINN THE BELLIGERENT - raced wide through the middle stages. Weakened from the 500 metres.
LOVE THE BLUES - lay inwards early in the home straight and had to be straightened passing the 175 metres. Driver R Swain reported he did not activate the removable deafeners applied to the gelding due to having the field covered.
TOMMYS REACTOR - awkwardly placed close to the sulky of JACCKA TED passing the 1200 metres, when over-racing. Weakened from the 500 metres.
Race 5   FINAL TOUCH / DOMINION ELECTRIC MOBILE PACE
THE WHITE RABBIT - hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
IDEAL BREEZE - hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Driver A Beck dropped his foot from the sulky footrest when activating gear passing the 150 metres resulting in an accidental contact with the hind leg of his runner. Notwithstanding this Mr Beck was warned to ensure that this does not occur in future.
CALICO HILL - held up rounding the final bend.
FRANCO HUNTINGTON - lay inwards rounding the first bend when racing wide on the track and continued to lay inwards on the bends thereafter. Hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
BOUND TO BE BETTOR - raced wide without cover from the 1200 metres. Paced roughly rounding the final bend before breaking near the 300 metres, hampering several outside runners. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
MAGNATE MARA - raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the parked position near the 1500 metres.
SHUZI - proved difficult to steer in the score-up hampering outside runners, before breaking and losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
DALLAS GRIMES - hampered in the score-up. Held up rounding the final bend.
JABALI - hampered in the score-up. Hampered by a breaking runner rounding the final bend. Driver B McLellan reported he had sustained a punctured sulky tyre near the 300 metres.
Authorisation of all dividends was withheld until the Stewards had viewed replays of the start and were satisfied DALLAS GRIMES and JABALI had not been denied a fair start when being hampered in the score-up.
Race 6   SOUTHLAND CAR & COMMERCIAL PAINTERS MOBILE PACE
DIEGO - hung inwards in the early stages of the home straight and shifted outwards when being corrected, briefly hampering outside runners.
TRIROYALE BRIGADE - briefly hampered near the 150 metres.
ZENOLA'S ART - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to take cover. Briefly hampered near the 150 metres.
HUNTAWAY - lay outwards in the score-up. Raced wide in the early stages.
THE EMPRESS - held up rounding the final bend.
ANNIE FITZ - held up rounding the final bend.
Race 7   COLLINGWOOD FOODCENTRE MOBILE PACE
BETTOR ENFORCE - lay inwards rounding the final bend contacting track markers.
ARDENT LUSTRE - hung inwards when rounding the bends throughout.
VINTAGE CHEDDAR - over-raced through the middle stages.
Race 8   ALL PURPOSE ENGINEERING / SOUTHLAND BATTERIES MOBILE PACE
THE DOORMAN - hung outwards throughout the run home. Trainer/driver J Cox advised he would be making gear changes prior to the gelding resuming.
NIGHTMARCH - held up rounding the final bend.
BLACK OPS - junior driver E Barron momentarily dropped her inside rein passing the 100 metres.
LADY'S LASS - held up passing the 400 metres.
KAGEE VC - driver C Ferguson dropped his whip passing the 400 metres.
HONOUR SCROLL - raced wide from the 900 metres.
COOLHAND EASTON - lay inwards when held up rounding the final bend and early in the run home, only gaining clear racing room inside the final 100 metres.
SHINDAL - driver A Beck reported he was unable to activate the removable deafeners applied to the gelding due to the cord breaking. The gear was inspected and found to be in good condition.
JINGLES BROMAC - hung inwards and broke passing the 700 metres, losing all chance.
KANSAS CITY JIM - lay inwards exiting the final bend.
