Race 1   CENTRAL ENERGY TRUST HANDICAP TROT
GUNNERS COIN - Driver B Orange reported that he had not activated the deafeners due to having the field well covered.
MACKALI - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Weakened final turn.
DANKE - inconvenienced by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
LEESA CASTLETON - broke at the start but soon settled. Broke near the 900 metres and was taken down inside the marker line to avoid trailing runners and lost it's chance.
BET'S COMMANDO - broke approaching the 2100 metres losing all chance.
SHONA MARY - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI - inconvenienced by a breaking runner near the 2100 metres.
Race 2   MEMBERS MOBILE PACE
CARSE O FERN TOM - held up early final turn.
AIN'T NOTHING BETTOR - Driver D Butcher was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove when he applied pressure to the leader COOL AND CALCULATING for some distance racing down the back straight on the first occasion. Mr Butcher stated that he had only challenged for the lead for the duration of the back straight on the first occasion and had then been content to sit back off COOL AND CALCULATING which allowed the tempo to ease considerably. After considering Mr Butcher's explanation no further action was deemed necessary. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
COOL AND CALCULATING - weakened final turn. Driver A Poutama was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove when he elected to maintain the lead when challenged by AIN'T NOTHING BETTOR for some distance racing down the back straight on the first occasion. Mr Poutama stated that after having shown early gate speed to lead that he had only been challenged for approximately 200 metres when AIN'T NOTHING BETTOR improved to it's outside and had then been able to ease the tempo so as to give his filly some respite shortly after. He further stated that he was disappointed with the filly's performance. After considering Mr Poutama's explanation no further action was deemed necessary. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
VELOCETTE - paced roughly and then broke near the 900 metres losing it's chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
KHAL DROGO - over-raced middle stages when trailing the leader. Held up by a tiring runner final turn. Driver J Curtin was cautioned for racing over several marker pegs prior to the entrance to the passing lane and then when he allowed his gelding to shift in and contact several marker pegs shortly after.
AMERICAN ME - unable to maintain it's position prior to dispatch and was slow early. Raced four then five wide from the 600 metres.
MR INCREDIBLE - broke near the 1400 metres losing it's chance. After speaking with Trainer G Cronin the gelding was placed on the unruly for future mobile starts and Mr Cronin was advised that a similar performance on the second day would see the gelding being stood down.
FROSTY RECEPTION - raced four wide from the 600 metres.
Race 3   SPEIGHTS ALE HOUSE ON GREY STREET MOBILE PACE
MONIAIVE - commenced to weaken near the 500 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality with further tests to be carried out in the coming days
PAY ME WELL - lay in early in the run home and contacted MHAI UPTOWN GIRL near the 150 metres.
ARTY PHARTY - gave ground from the 1400 metres and was retired from the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. The gelding was subsequently stood down pending a veterinary clearance which is to include a satisfactory ECG. Junior Driver S Iremonger with the assistance of Senior Driver S Phelan was spoken to advisedly in regard to the manner in which he drove on this tiring runner.
MHAI UPTOWN GIRL - paced roughly passing the 150 metres after contacting the sulky wheel of PAY ME WELL after both horses shifted ground with no further action deemed necessary.
MAC PAUA - back from the unruly position throughout the score-up. Weakened from the 500 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
Race 4   PATRONS MOBILE PACE
JACK'S SHADOW - held up early final turn.
JACK BATES - over-raced middle stages.
RED RIVER DASH - broke shortly after the start and settled at the rear. A warning was placed on the mare's mobile barrier manners. Tired from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
OUR WICKLOW - back a length from the unruly position at dispatch.
Race 5   FESTIVAL GOLD CUP 29TH MARCH MOBILE PACE
MISTER MIGHTY - raced three wide with cover from the 1150 metres.
BETTOR TRENZ - paced roughly entering the first turn. Broke near the 1800 metres settling back in midfield. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners record. Raced three wide with cover from near the 1700 metres.
AMARO - raced three wide without cover from the 1350 metres.
ITSOKBEINGBETTER - raced three wide early.
EXPRESS PLAY - paced roughly entering the first turn.
ROCK N JOY - held up early final turn.
PHILLYDOTCOM - held up early final turn.
BLARNEY BABE - raced three wide with cover from the 1150 metres.
LINCOLN LOVELY - raced three wide with cover from the 1150 metres.
Race 6   HILUX RURAL GAMES 9TH & 10TH MARCH MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared at the first attempt when KOTARE COSTA and THE KAPITI EXPRESS both broke late in the score-up checking second row runners. Drivers S Tomlinson (KOTARE COSTA) and P Ferguson (THE KAPITI EXPRESS) both elected to maintain their allocated barrier positions for the restart. A warning was placed on both geldings' respective mobile barrier manners.
KOTARE COSTA - tired from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
THE KAPITI EXPRESS - weakened final turn.
JETENARA - raced three wide early after unsuccessfully contesting a position in the one out running line with HEZALUCKYGRINNER. Lay in when being steadied off inside runners near the 350 metres.
MADDISONS DESIRE - raced wide when improving forward sharply from the 700 metres before crossing to race outside the leader near the 400 metres.
FANCY SCHMANCY - over-raced early and middle stages.
WICKLOW STAR - raced three wide early and then broke entering the back straight on the first occasion losing it's chance and was retired from the event. A warning was placed on this mare's racing manners.
Race 7   CARTOWN MOBILE PACE
PORT DELIGHT - broke in the early stages of the score-up but regained it's position prior to dispatch.
ATOM HANOVER - lay in rounding the final turn.
CYCLONE BANNER - raced four back on the inside from a second row draw. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the final turn and then was unable to make up much ground in the run home to finish in eighth place.
Race 8   OWNERS HANDICAP TROT
DANKE - was a late scratching at 2.55pm after having started in Race 1.
COMMANDO ONE - broke entering the first turn and settled towards the rear.
CAITLIN'S SURPRISE - lay out under pressure through the home straight.
ABOVE THE REST - stood on the mark when the barriers were released and was very slow to begin. Tired from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
SHE'S ALLTHE CRAZE - broke shortly after the start and settled at the rear.
MEKONG PRINCESS - broke under pressure passing the 100 metres.
ZSA ZOE - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
Race 9   MANAWATU ITM MOBILE PACE
GOTTA MOMENT - gave ground from the 500 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
SPIRIT OF ANZAC - lay in and paced roughly near the 1700 metres.
BILL HALEY - raced midfield on the outer before improving sharply from the 800 metres and crossed to the lead near the 600 metres but was run down over the final stages into seventh place beaten 10.3 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance Trainer J Abernethy could offer no explanation other than the gelding had turned in the odd poor run in the past and that he expected a stronger showing on the second day.
SWEET MAGGIE RYAN - weakened from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
