Race 5 - AVON CITY FORD CUP DAY BOOT PARTY - LIMITED REMAIN HCP TROT
At a hearing held today, Driver C DeFilippi defended a breach of Rule 868(3) in that he failed to drive CLOVER LOU out to the end of the race when he had a reasonable chance of finishing 3rd. After viewing replays and hearing the evidence, the JCA upheld the charge and imposed a fine of $450.

ROCKNPOP - began awkwardly. Hung inwards and struck pylons final bend.
IDEAL INVASION - broke after 150 metres.
ALI LINDENNY - broke at the start losing all chance.
SPURRED BY SUCCESS - broke at the start. Over-raced final bend. Trotted roughly in the home straight.
BELMONT'S GREATEST - late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.35am after being injured en-route to the course. A veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding resuming.
MONARO MARO - trotted roughly in the early stages and was slow in consequence losing considerable ground.
STAR DUDE - trotted roughly in the home straight.
EDEN CREEK - hung inwards and trotted roughly in the home straight.
MOTU GREAT SENSATION - hampered racing into the first bend by a breaking runner having to shift wider.
ANNA KATE - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
ED WOOD - broke at the start and continued on in an uncontrollable gallop for some distance. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Trainer/driver D McCormick advised he would be changing the horse's bit.
LONE STAR LAD - hampered shortly after the start by a breaking runner. Trotted roughly rounding the first bend losing ground in consequence. Continued to trot roughly throughout the run home.
MISSIE CASTLETON - held up early stages of the run home.

DADNDAVE - sustained a punctured sulky tyre near the 1500 metres.
CHAIN REACTION - hung outwards in the score up causing driver J Morrison some difficulty.
MASTER MILANO - raced wide from the 800 metres. Weakened final bend.
BETTATHANFAST - Stewards issued driver R May with a warning for the manner he shifted inwards near the 2000 metres causing crowding to an inside runner.
THREE IDEAS - underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start after having blood present in the mouth and was cleared to race. Hung inwards and broke near the 1300 metres. Driver J Curtin reported the gelding had been striking his sulky wheels.
IDEAL ASSET - weakened leaving the final bend.
FORTY WIVES - driver R Holmes contacted on several occasions by a trailing horse near the 1500 metres resulting in this gelding making contact with the sulky wheel of DADNDAVE and racing roughly for a short distance.
KARANGA SWEET P - raced fiercely through the straight passing the 1500 metres and on several occasions made contact with driver R Holmes (FORTY WIVES) who the gelding was following. As a result of this the gelding also made contact with the sulky of FORTY WIVES causing it to blunder and gallop for several strides. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record. Weakened passing the 600 metres.
MONGOLIAN WARRIOR - checked near the 1500 metres. Held up final bend.
PORTALEGRE - had to be steadied near the 2000 metres when placed in restricted room.

TAKE AFTER ME - broke racing into the first bend.
MAUDARCHY - broke at the start.
LOTAMUSCLE - checked by a breaking runner racing into the first bend and broke. Broke near the 250 metres.
THEODOSIA - held up middle stages of the run home.
GIL FAVOR - raced wide early stages. Hampered by a breaking runner passing the 200 metres and had to shift wider.
TRES MAGNIFIQUE - the murphy blind was removed prior to the start after warming up unfavourably.
MADELEINE STOWE - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.

STATELY - broke in the early stages of the score up.
PATANJALI - raced wide throughout.
DELIGHT MY SOUL - raced wide early and middle stages.
BETTOR'S HEART - raced wide throughout. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver M Purdon advised the mare had only travelled moderately throughout and had been disappointing when asked for an effort near the 250 metres. Trainer P Bagrie reported that the mare had performed below expectations on several occasions when racing over a mile and may be better suited to competing over extra distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
BETTOR JOY - raced wide throughout.
IVANA FLYBYE - lay inwards through the final straight having to be corrected on occasions by driver D Butcher.

ACUTO - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
BORN TO RUN - gave ground rapidly from the 1000 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
HENRY HUBERT - driver G Smith advised he did not activate the deafeners due to having the field covered.

MYSISTERSASTAR - checked and broke for a short distance racing into the first bend. Stewards spoke with drivers T Herlihy (MYSISTERSASTAR), D Keast (COPPERHEAD ROSE) and R May (FLYING MISTER IDEAL) regarding this incident where it became apparent that COPPERHEAD ROSE had hung inwards through the early stages and when driver D Keast attempted to relieve the pressure to those runners inside was unable to do so due to FLYING MISTER IDEAL improving to his outside. Stewards were satisfied that driver R May had not contributed to this incident so took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances. Held up throughout the run home.
NEARIS GREEN - broke at the start.
BOUND TO IMPRESS - driver J Versteeg reported the gelding's deafeners were not activated due to the cord becoming entangled.
GO KIWI - broke near the 300 metres and was eased down by driver S Ottley. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
COPPERHEAD ROSE - lay inwards racing into the first bend and had to be steadied. Continued to lay inwards throughout.
NIMAH FRANCO - broke at the start.
ABIENTO - inconvenienced racing into the first bend by a breaking runner.
ARTICULIGHT - held up early and middle stages of the run home.

There was a delay to the start of the race when ULTIMATE MACHETE breasted the barrier.
NO DOCTOR NEEDED - held up early stages of the run home.
ULTIMATE MACHETE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Held up early stages of the run home. Authorisation of 5th placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the horse had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations in the early stages.
STAR GALLERIA - passed a pre-race veterinary examination after a travelling companion got down in the truck en route to the course and was cleared to start. Broke at the start.
A G'S WHITE SOCKS - the required veterinary clearance was received. Broke at the start.
ALTA ORLANDO - broke at the start.

TIME FOR DIAMONDS - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.
FLYINOVA - broke over the final stages.
RUTHLESS KAYLA - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.
JUSTAMOLLYARCHER - broke at the start then settled before breaking again losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. The connections advised they would be making gear changes prior to the horse resuming.
SPLASH COLA - raced wide in the early stages before being taken forward to lead near the 1500 metres.
RED HOT POKER - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.
MCLOVIN - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.
WE'LL MEET AGAIN - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.
THE DOMINATOR - slow to begin. Broke near the 1100 metres. Again broke passing the 500 metres.
AMARETTO SUN - had to be eased near the 2000 metres when there was an easing of the pace.

HARRIET OF MOT - broke after 100 metres checking a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Driver T Williams reported the mare to have trotted awkwardly throughout after breaking. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WILMA'S MATE - broke when leading passing the 1200 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver B Butt advised the mare had been unsuited to working hard in the early stages to take up a forward position.
WINTERFELL - trotted roughly in the score up and through the early stages. Trotted roughly final bend before breaking near the 300 metres.
BD KHAOSAN - raced wide early stages.
SUNNY RUBY - checked by a breaking runner after 100 metres. Again checked rounding the first bend. Inconvenienced near the 250 metres by a breaking runner having to shift ground outwards.
WOODSTONE - broke rounding the first bend. Driver R Houghton reported the gelding to have been making contact with its own sulky wheels.

SWAMP MAJOR - over-raced middle stages.
BAILEYS KNIGHT - broke racing into the first bend. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Trainer/driver J Harrington advised it was his intention to shorten the gelding's hopples as he felt the galloping had been in response to him activating the shorteners today.
ALL U NEED IS FAITH - began awkwardly.
HAIL CHRISTIAN - reluctant to take up its barrier position.
SHERIFF - when spoken to regarding the entire's performance, driver T Chmiel reported his horse to have been under pressure leaving the final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer N McGrath advised he would have the horse scoped and blood tests taken in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results of these tests.
RAUKAPUKA RULER - reluctant to take up its barrier position.
 
Race 11ASHBURTON GUARDIAN MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
ARTSTANDING - broke after being angled into clear running near the 250 metres. Stewards films determined the colt had been racing with one broken hopple at this stage and then broken the other once galloping. This gear was inspected and found to be in good condition.
MAMMA KNOWS BEST - hampered by a breaking runner near the 250 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver M Williamson advised the filly had been showing seasonal signs and he would be recommending to the connections that she not race in this condition again. Stewards will speak with trainer M Purvis in the coming days regarding this.
SON OF A TIGER - hampered by a breaking runner near the 250 metres.
MONGOLIAN CAVALRY - raced wide in the early and middle stages.
