Awkwardly positioned on the wheel of BLACK OPS exiting the bend despite the effort of Miss Faithful, becoming unbalanced and breaking shortly afterwards. Stewards questioned Miss Faithful (Assisted by Senior Driver N Williamson) with regard to the tactics she adopted rounding the final bend, In particular her decision to shift out from the trailing position onto the back of a tiring runner. Miss Faithful explained that in her opinion BLACK OPS (Parked) and MISS WAIKIWI (Leader) were both under pressure at this point and because of this she felt it beneficial to improve outwards to look for racing room to the outside rather than be held up and not be taken to the passing lane. Miss Faithful further added that as soon as she had made her outwards movement she realised she had erred in her decision and that the lead horse was travelling better than she had first thought. After hearing the explanation offered by Miss Faithful and the comments tendered by Mr Williamson, along with viewing all available films, Stewards accepted that Miss Faithful had merely erred in her judgement and in doing so took the matter no further other to advise Miss Faithful that better judgement would be expected of her in future.
