Race 1   LADS NIGHT AT THE RACES 16TH MAY HANDICAP TROT
EVERMORE - Driver D Butcher was cautioned in regard to allowing the filly to shift out under pressure during the run home.
LUKYANOVA - broke passing the 100 metres. Driver K Marshall admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) for breaching Clause (e) of the Use of the Whip Regulations after he used his whip after the winning post. The JCA imposed a fine of $300.00.
MORGANA - broke shortly after the start and trailed the field throughout.
BLUE COMAN - slow early. Held up until near the 100 metres. Driver J Stormont advised that he had elected not to activate the deafeners and had been unable to drive the gelding out due to it trotting unevenly over the final stages.
EDEN CREEK - broke for a few strides shortly after the start settling quickly. Broke passing the 250 metres.
LITTLE BRO - broke at the start losing ground before settling.
TAKENOPRISONERS - proceeded to over-race from the middle stages.
Race 2   PRINTECH CAMBRIDGE MOBILE PACE
T C BUSINESS - no claims were lodged.
ROMANITE - badly held up rounding the final bend before breaking near the 170 metres when shifting down into the passing lane. Checked and locked sulky wheels inside the 100 metres with T C BUSINESS, which had been placed under pressure from the outside by BANNER OF ART. Driver S Wigg admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly causing her own horse to break after contacting the sulky wheel of T C BUSINESS early in the run home. The JCA imposed a fine of $250.00.
WHITEHAVEN BEACH - failed to get clear racing room rounding the final bend and early stages of the run home.
BANNER OF ART - Amateur Driver J Brownlee was shown the replay of the run home and cautioned for allowing his horse to shift in and tighten inside runners despite that the gelding was laying inward. Mr Brownlee was also questioned in regard to the tactics he adopted when racing outside the leader over the early and middle stages. Mr Brownlee stated that his horse had commenced to over-race during the middle stages before then laying in badly entering the final turn which placed him at a considerable disadvantage. Stewards noted Mr Brownlee's comments but advised him that he would be expected to make a greater effort to rate his gelding to advantage in similar circumstances in the future.
JACKHAMMER JOE - Amateur Driver N Munro dropped his foot from the sulky footrest when unsuccessfully attempting to activate gear passing the 200 metres. Mr Munro was cautioned as the person in charge for failing to affix the gear so as not to malfunction.
VANHALEM - raced four wide from the 950 metres.
HIGHVIEW JUSTICE - Amateur Driver B Hadley advised that the sliding blinds had activated but not the deafeners and that he had only realised this on pulling up. Mr Hadley was warned to be more vigilant in similar circumstances in the future.
MR INCREDIBLE - removed from the unruly for mobile starts.
Race 3   GARRARDS SIRES STAKES SERIES No.36 (HEAT 2) MOBILE PACE
SIR TIGER - inclined to lay in rounding the bends.
LOUIE THE HORSE - held up until inside the final 70 metres.
HARVEY SPECTER - held up rounding the final bend.
TEXAS TIGER -Trainer S Telfer was issued a $50 Minor Infringement Notice for the late notification of the removal of blinds. Was several lengths back from the unruly position at the start. Improved from the rear inside the 1200 metres to the lead passing the 1000 metres but was run down over the final stages into 7th place beaten 5.2 lengths.
Race 4   FARMLANDS HAUTAPU MOBILE PACE
LOUD AN PROUD - caught three wide early before being restrained to the rear.
MHAI UPTOWN GIRL - held up final turn.
BETTOR TRENZ - galloped late in the score up and settled at the rear. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile manners record.
MAJOR BLINK - over-raced middle stages. Held up rounding the final turn and the early stages of the run home.
LE GIRL - raced three wide from inside the 1200 metres. Lay in rounding the bends.
QUICK AS FIRE - raced fiercely in the score up.
BUGALUGS - held up final turn and the latter stages of the run home.
CARRERA SKY - held up rounding the final turn and early stages of the run home.
BETTER THAN MOST - held up rounding the final turn and the early stages of the run home.
Race 5   CULLYS BRUTALITY: THEIR HOTTEST SAUCE YET! MOBILE PACE
CHARLIE HARPER - paced roughly and was slow away impeding a trailing runner. Tired over the latter stages.
MADAME CONNOISTRE - improved from its wide mobile barrier draw to lead approaching the 2000 metres and was then challenged for the lead during the middle stages before weakening out inside the 400 metres.
PEGASUS KOMMANDER - over-raced middle stages. Impeded by a weakening runner passing the 600 metres.
PRIME SILVER - impeded at the start by a runner pacing roughly. Tired over the latter stages.
BLACK ART - over-raced when being restrained shortly after the start. Raced three wide from inside the 1100 metres. Junior driver A Fitzgerald was cautioned to maintain a straight course throughout the run home in the future after the gelding shifted out under pressure over the final stages.
DEER HUNTER - back from the unruly position at the start. Raced three wide from inside the 1100 metres but weakened out near the 600 metres impeding a trailing runner and was retired from the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with the connections in coming days.
LIBERAL ARDEN - over-raced when being restrained shortly after the start.
Trainer N Chilcott advised Stewards on 1 May that DEER HUNTER has been sent for a lengthy spell.
Race 6   CHAMPIONS PUBLIC BAR GRAND OPENING - 28TH APRIL HCP TROT
RAVE NATION - slow to begin and broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
DANKE - was a late scratching at 7.05pm after having started in Race 1.
MY ROYAL ROXY - broke entering the first bend. Trotted roughly near the 1850 metres. Hung badly rounding the bend passing the 900 metres and struck a marker peg entering the back straight which resulted in the mare losing ground checking a trailing runner.
TERESKOVA - broke approaching the first bend losing considerable ground.
COMEDY ACT - underwent a veterinary examination after having competed in Race 1 and was cleared to start. Broke approaching the first bend. Checked and switched to a pace passing the 700 metres and failed to settle before being retired from the event.
AWHI MAI - over-raced middle stages.
JOMO - began awkwardly.
Race 7   SEABREW ANIMAL HEALTH TONIC MOBILE PACE
JACK TAR - unsuccessfully contested for a position in the one out running line rounding the first turn and remained three wide until near the 1500 metres.
Race 8   QUIZ NIGHT AT THE RACES 16TH MAY MOBILE PACE
ALEXIA ROSE - raced three wide early.
MISS TAKEN - raced three wide early and middle stages.
PATAGONIAN PRINCESS - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the filly's mobile barriers.
AKARANA PRINCE - checked and broke briefly approaching the first turn. Over-raced approaching the 1600 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the off hind which required treatment.
MIRACLE MOOSE - Driver T Cameron defended a charge under Rule 869 (3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when shifting ground inwards approaching the first turn resulting in interference to AKARANA PRINCE (A Poutama) which broke. The JCA upheld the charge and suspended Mr Cameron's Horseman's licence from the conclusion of racing on 22 April 2019 up to and including 30 April 2019 (3 days).
THE GREENKEEPER - broke briefly shortly after the start. Inconvenienced and broke near the 1500 metres when having to check off RANDOM CHANCE which shifted ground outwards.
