Mr Keast explained that his horse had missed a workout due to a cancellation and so today was fresh up for over a month and that this was the reason that he notified pre-race that the horse was to be driven with a sit if possible. Mr Keast said the horse was not entirely comfortable in the track conditions and had noted in today's previous races horses were not improving from wider on the track. Mr Keast said he would have accepted a trail into the race but this never eventuated and he was reluctant to make an attempt for the parked position due to his belief JERRY GARCIA would not surrender that position. He said his gelding had raced lethargically on the final bend despite his attempts to enthuse the horse and that the horse generally trotted the bends poorly. He added that due to this he was reluctant to attempt to race wide in the conditions and unbalance the horse. Stewards have adjourned the matter to make further inquiries.
After this race the track was downgraded to slushy.
Stewards have concluded an investigation into the driving tactics of D Keast upon LOVEY DOVEY MOMENT. After considering the explanation of Mr Keast at this meeting and making further inquiries throughout the week Stewards took the matter no further.
