Race 8 - HOUSE OF TRAVEL LAKERS SUMMER CUP (MOBILE PACE)
SANTANNA'S ROCKET - Stewards concluded an inquiry into the tactics of J Cox in the early stages. After speaking with trainer W Breen and reviewing the films Stewards were satisfied the explanation of Mr Cox was reasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
Race 10 - SEE THE DUNDEEL COLT (LOT 358) AT 2019 KARAKA SALES MOB PACE
Trainer M Brown advised Stewards on 17 January that HARRYDAHORSE will no longer be persevered with as a racing proposition from his stable.
Stewards questioned driver M Hurrell (COOLHAND EASTON) regarding the tactics he adopted between the 400 metres and 300 metres when he elected to not shift outwards in pursuit of clear running however instead opting to maintain a position in the two wide line which lead to him being held up early in the run home. Mr Hurrell explained that the race had been run at a fast tempo leaving several horses under pressure down the back straight on the final occasion which lead him to believe more gaps would have presented themselves at an earlier opportunity than had eventuated. Mr Hurrell said his horse was racing keenly passing the 300 metres and he would have had to heavily restrain to shift wider which would have cost the horse considerable momentum. Mr Hurrell further added he was mindful of his runner breaking when improving wider at its previous start due to it laying inwards when poorly positioned on the track. After hearing his explanation and viewing the films the decision of Mr Hurrell was considered reasonable by the Stewards and no further action was required.
