Junior Driver D Keast, who declined the assistance of a Senior Horseman, admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations inside the final 400 metres. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Keast's Horseman's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 1 February (6 days). | |

A BETTER DANCER - checked and broke shortly after the start. Held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend. | |
GOD ONLY KNOWS - Trainer G Smith was fined $100 for presenting this gelding with the incorrect number. Checked shortly after the start and locked wheels with FREAK LIKE ME dislodging Driver G Smith from the sulky. Mr Smith was examined by St John Paramedics and cleared to fulfill his remaining driving engagements. | |
FREAK LIKE ME - broke shortly after the start and blundered resulting in the gelding locking wheels with GOD ONLY KNOWS unbalancing Driver J Best and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts and stood down to complete one satisfactory trial from that start type. | |

ANAMAJOR - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Raced keenly middle stages. Hung inwards throughout the run home. The all clear was delayed until Driver G Smith had viewed a replay to determine whether his runner had been denied a fair start. After viewing the available replays, Mr Smith and Stewards were satisfied the filly had not been denied a fair start and the all clear was given. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted Mr Smith explained that after losing ground at the start he was reluctant to improve his position and race without cover through the middle stages considering the rise in class from its last start. After hearing from Mr Smith, Stewards took the matter no further. | |
