MACKS COURAGE- underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination and was cleared to race.
ADJUDICATOR - gave ground exiting the final bend. A post-race Veterinary examination was requested by the connections with the gelding found to be lame in its left fore leg. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance.
JAY TEE TYRON - raced wide early stages
JIMMY CANNON - raced wide early stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer/Driver D Keast advised that the gelding had broken during the running two starts ago when fresh up from a spell. Mr Keast added that the horse had not disappointed him in its most previous start after working hard in the middle stages and finishing in a close up position. Given this Mr Keast was not surprised by its efforts today, Mr Keast was fined the sum of $350.00 by the JCA for using his whip outside of the provisions of Clause (c) of the Use of Whip Regulations when using his whip in an uninterrupted manner in the middle stages.
JACKHAMMER JOE - out of position at dispatch. A warning was placed on its mobile barrier record
DIXIE REIGN - hung inwards in the score up and was back slightly at dispatch.
KHAL DROGO - challenged for the lead from the 1100 metres and continued to do so until weakening nearing the 500 metres finishing a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no clinical abnormalities. Stewards questioned Driver G Smith and Trainer P Scott in regards to the tactics Mr Smith adopted when challenging for the lead for an extended period of time from the 1100 metres. After considering the explanation of both parties, Stewards issued Mr Smith with a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) alleging he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his horse's chances of winning. After hearing evidence from Stewards, Mr Smith and Mr Scott, the JCA found the charge proven and suspended Mr Smith's Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 13 January up to and including 27 January (5 days).

FREAK LIKE ME - weakened from the 400 metres. Driver J Best was questioned with regard to his tactics by allowing the gelding to maintain a strong tempo after gaining the lead through the early stages when it was reasonable for him to give the gelding some respite through the middle stages. Mr Best explained he wanted to drive the gelding in a forwards position after it had failed to impress when driven with a sit in its most previous starts. He added that in hindsight he had erred in his judgement regarding the speed he maintained through the middle stages.
