GLACIER COASTER - when questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance trainer A Paisley explained following recent repeat poor performances he had changed the training regime which the mare had benefited from. Mr Cox added the gelding had become slightly agitated following the false start and he briefly considered following VENETO forward near the 1400 metres but noticed that horse was racing keenly and felt he may have to work harder to reach the parked position. He said that where circumstances permit in future it was his intention to drive the horse in a similar manner.

A post-race veterinary examination suggested further tests should be carried out on the gelding's respiratory system. Trainer P Williamson advised he was disappointed with the effort and it was his intention to have a further veterinary examination including an endoscopic examination. Mr Williamson added he would return the gelding to the trials prior to racing next. Stewards will follow up the recovery in the coming days. Stewards questioned the decision of driver M Williamson not to shift outwards passing the 1500 metres, instead opting to race five back on the running line. Mr Williamson explained the gelding had been trotting roughly leading up to this, in particular on the bends and being mindful the preferred racing pattern was racing with cover until a later stage, felt it in his best interests to maintain that position. He said he hoped to be able to shift outwards and improve to the lead soon after, as he did approaching the 1800 metres. After hearing from Mr Cox Stewards adjourned the matter to make further inquiries.
