Race Comments
Race 1EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES & MORE FM MOBILE TROTVideo  Video
FEKITOA - broke near the 1800 metres.
EASY PICKINGS - the near side number was removed prior to the start when the strap broke. Junior driver B Hope (assisted by J Dunn) was questioned regarding the manner he drove in the early and middle stages of the run home when limited in his urgings. Mr Hope explained the horse is still very inexperienced and at this stage of its career would not respond well to an overly vigorous drive. He added that he was also mindful of the horse breaking in two of its previous three starts and so only reined the horse and used his whip sparingly. After considering his explanation Stewards accepted his comments.
SUNRISE SPUR - trotted roughly before breaking briefly near the 1000 metres. Broke at the 300 metres.
STRATMORES DREAM - broke late in the score up and was out of position at the start.

GALLEONS GLORY - when questioned regarding the improved performance, the connections advised that the mare was suited to the mobile start together with a good draw and the economical run received today.
SEA ROVER - out of position at the candy pole and start despite the efforts of driver T McMillan. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
ALVIRA HEST - held up early and middle stages of the run home. When questioned regarding the manner in which he drove near the 200 metres when electing to shift outwards as opposed to attempting a run to the inside of CRUSHER COLLINS, driver A Faulks advised that he believed that runner would occupy all of the passing lane and so felt it in his best interests to shift outwards. He added that once committing to that move he noticed the inside run was still available but instead of disrupting his horse's momentum elected to continue outwards. Stewards considered his decision was reasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
SIOUX PRINCESS - when questioned regarding the manner in which she drove, junior driver L McKay explained that as previously advised on 8 December at NZMTC, the mare performs best when able to receive cover and improve into the race behind other runners. She added this had not eventuated today and as a result she had become positioned further back than desired. The stewards have noted her comments.
LIGHTWORKOFIT - broke shortly after the start when placed in restricted room while over-racing and made contact with a sulky wheel. Broke again near the 200 metres. After hearing from driver B Munro and reviewing the films, Stewards placed a final warning on the gelding's racing record and advised Mr Munro that it was expected he exercise more care when shifting ground.
