MEGASTAR - commenced to tire from the 500 metres badly inconveniencing the trailing CHOSEN MAJOR. A post race veterinary examination revealed a significant amount of mucus in the trachea which would require treatment. An investigation was held into an incident near the 350 metres where CHOSEN MAJOR became awkwardly positioned to the outside of MEGASTAR. Junior Driver F Schumacher, assisted by Senior Driver J Dickie, stated that his gelding had over-raced badly during the running and had run up onto the back of Driver B Mangos on numerous occasions despite his efforts. Mr Schumacher further stated that CHOSEN MAJOR had become fierce when MEGASTAR commenced to weaken leaving the back straight and that he had been contacting MEGASTAR's sulky for some strides when attempting to shift out off that runner's back near the 350 metres due to his gelding laying in. He further added that he had encountered difficulties with visibility after having removed his protective glasses prior to this incident and did not witness anything untoward take place. Driver B Mangos stated that his helmet had been pushed forward by the trailing CHOSEN MAJOR on numerous occasions during the running and he was aware that Mr Schumacher was having considerable difficulty and in particular when that runner shifted out off his back when in restricted room near the 350 metres so he had attempted to fend CHOSEN MAJOR off as a safety measure to prevent that runner from ending up in his sulky. Mr Mangos further explained that he had been unsuccessful with his first attempt to fend CHOSEN MAJOR off his sulky before making contact with his right forearm on that runner's chest at the second attempt and was adamant that no contact had been made to CHOSEN MAJOR with his whip. After viewing the replays and considering the evidence Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.
