Race 1 - NEW YEARS EVE AT ALEX PARK MOBILE PACE
Trainer D Iremonger advised Stewards on 19 December that blood tests taken from ATOM HANOVER revealed no irregularities. Mr Iremonger added that he felt the gelding had been suffering from dehydration which would be further treated before resuming at Cambridge on Xmas Eve.

Race 1MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM WOODLANDS STUD MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
LOUD AN PROUD - tired final stages.
HIGHVIEW JUSTICE - shifted out rounding the final turn. Amateur Driver J Kriechbaumer was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly in relation to allowing his gelding to shift ground at this stage. Mr Kriechbaumer admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted under Clause (b) of the 'Use of the Whip' regulations and was fined $200.00 by the JCA. Mr Kriechbaumer was also spoken to with regard to the force with which he applied the whip over the final stages and advised that a repeat will see greater action taken against him.
JAKIRA - inconvenienced just short of the winning post. Amateur Driver G Cronin defended a charge under Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted under Clause (b) of the 'Use of the Whip' regulations. The JCA upheld the charge and imposed a fine of $200.00
ARMSTRONG - broke early in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier manners.
THE PERSUADER - raced at the rear before shifting to a three wide position near the 700 metres with cover. Improved wide from the 300 metres and shifted in late in the run home before stepping over a piece of litter that had blown onto the track just short of the winning post inconveniencing JAKIRA to its inside. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld to enable Stewards to ascertain whether there were grounds for Protest. The Panel were satisfied that THE PERSUADER was in its proper gait on reaching the winning post and that any interference received by JAKIRA had not affected the outcome of the race with placings duly authorised. When questioned Amateur Driver S Wigg stated that the near side sliding blind had come partially adrift over the early stages along with the offside hopple shortener pin failing to release which placed the gelding at some disadvantage. Miss Wigg further stated she had not been taken forward into the race as anticipated however still felt she was a winning chance when taken wide near the 300 metres given that the gelding had raced best when saved for one final run in the past. Miss Wigg's comments were noted.

RHIANNA REIGNS - raced greenly passing the 1800 metres and shifted in contacting several marker pegs.
ARTY PHARTY - Junior Driver S Iremonger reported that he pulled a flat tyre from inside the 2000 metres.
E CAT - Co-trainers P & V Blanchard were issued a $50 Minor Infringement Notice for the late notification of the removal of sliding blinds.
DESTINED TO BE - slow early. Lay in rounding the final turn.

ABOVE THE REST - when questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer W Fleming stated that ABOVE THE REST hadn't done a lot work-wise since racing at the recent Manawatu meeting and could only put it down to the mare benefiting from being able to set her own terms in front.
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
MADABOY - broke passing the 2100 metres and settled at the rear.
PRETORIUS - broke near the 1400 metres losing several lengths. Broke passing the 400 metres.
LITTLE BRO - broke for several strides at the start.
GREY STOKE - raced three wide for a considerable distance during the middle stages.
GERSHWIN - slow to begin. Broke approaching the 1600 metres losing ground before settling.

ALLY MAE - held up early by a weakening runner on the final turn.
KNIGHTS DESIRE - weakened final stages.
CHARLIE MACH - weakened final turn.
VIEWFIELD GNAT - lay in at various stages rounding the bends. The off side number came adrift and hung down during the middle stages.

The start was delayed after BUBBLES O'LEARY reared and landed in the sulky of FLEETING GRIN resulting in a sulky wheel on that runner having to be replaced. The start was further delayed when the sulky on FLEETING GRIN then had to be changed due to the replacement wheel not being compatible.
RED MAGIC - raced keenly middle stages. Driver K Marshall admitted a charge under 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly near the 300 metres when shifting ground outwards which resulted in interference to DELIGHTFUL ZEN, with that runner galloping and losing all chance. The JCA imposed a suspension of Mr Marshall's Drivers licence from the conclusion of racing on 24 December 2018 upto and including 2 January 2019.
DELIGHTFUL ZEN - back from position at the start. Junior Driver J Mackinnon was warned to maintain his position on the mobile until dispatch in the future. Checked and broke near the 300 metres losing all chance.
BUBBLES O'LEARY - examined by the Vet following the incident when parading and cleared to race. Back from position at the start. Driver T Mitchell was warned to maintain his position on the mobile until dispatch in the future. Restrained early and raced at the rear throughout. Shifted wide early in the run home but was unable to make up much ground to finish in 6th place beaten 6.9 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance and tactics adopted Driver T Mitchell stated that BUBBLES O'LEARY was not as good racing left handed as she tended to lay in so it had been decided to go back at the start and look to get a trail into the race in what was the mare's first race for 6 months. He further stated that BUBBLES O'LEARY had trialled on 3 occasions leading into the event and had been slightly disappointed with the way the mare finished the race off. Mr Mitchell's comments were noted and Stewards will follow up the mare's progress with trainer R Villiger in coming days.
STARS DELIGHT - weakened final stages.

AFORTUNADO - lay out rounding the home turn and then locked on the inside rein in the run home placing driver S Abernethy at a considerable disadvantage.
DESTINED FOR HEAVEN - broke late in the run home. A final warning was placed on the mare's racing record.
