Race Comments
Race 1CROMBIE LOCKWOOD HANDICAP TROTVideo  Video
WESTY BOYZ - had to be steadied racing into the first bend when in restricted room. The all clear was delayed until Trainer C Wigg and Driver K Marshall were able to review the films of the opening 200 metres to determine whether their gelding had been denied the opportunity to trail OSCAR BONAVENA by SUNNYS LITTLE JESTIC improving to its inside. No further action was required when it was apparent that SUNNYS LITTLE JESTIC had remained clear of the passing lane at all times when improving its position.
MISS BLISSFUL - had to be steadied racing towards the first bend when placed in restricted room. Lay outwards throughout the back straight on the final occasion. Trotted roughly under pressure over the final stages.
KAI TIME - broke entering the first turn when runners either side shifted ground resulting in trailing runners being checked. Stewards spoke with Driver A Poutama who advised that he was having some difficulty in controlling his gelding and so had no option but to shift outwards creating some pressure on outside runners. Mr Poutama requested the gelding be placed on the Unruly for upcoming starts.
TERESKOVA - raced wide in the early stages until improving to race outside the leader near the 1500 metres.
JOMO - swung outwards when the barriers were released and was slow to begin in consequence. Broke briefly approaching the 1800 metres. Under pressure passing the 400 metres. When questioned regarding the gelding's performance Trainer/Driver J Robinson explained that after being slow away and then losing some ground when breaking near the 1800 metres he had been unable to make up ground on the strong tempo. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
MAJESTIC ONE - broke briefly approaching the 1900 metres when Driver S Abernethy attempted to shift the mare out to ease the pressure on other runners.
AGOSTINI - broke near the 1800 metres losing all chance. Driver Z Butcher explained the gelding had become unbalanced when shifting inwards to avoid galloping runners.

Race 2BODMAN FENCING/HEALEY BUILDERS MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
ABOUT TURN - briefly taken wider racing passed the 1600 metres.
MR YIPS - veered inwards abruptly away from RUBY ROSE who was being taken forward to lead when approaching the 1600 metres and shifted inside the marker line before being steadied and re-entering the field. The all clear was withheld while films were reviewed of this incident to determine firstly if MR YIPS had gained an advantage by racing inside the pylons and secondly if there were grounds for protest from any placed runner. Films established that MR YIPS had gained no advantage by racing inside the markers and Mr Herlihy had complied with his obligations under the Track Markers Regulations in that there was sufficient room for him to re-enter the track when he did so due to the field being positioned wider on the track. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
MAGILLIGAN POINT - inconvenienced near the 1600 metres and had to race wide for some distance before it was able to be eased inwards and back into the two out position. Driver J Stormont advised that he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord breaking.
ROCK N SHARD - had to be steadied near the 1600 metres due to an easing of the pace. Raced keenly thereafter.
COMIC BOOK HERO had to be steadied near the 1600 metres due to an easing of the pace.
MAMMA KNOWS BEST - inconvenienced near the 1500 metres having to shift wider. Raced wide from the 700 metres.

KAYLA MARIE - Driver M Neilson admitted a charge of Rule 869(4),(6)(b)(c) in that she drove in breach of the push out rule near the 1600 metres when shifting outwards causing the improving BUZINGA to be taken wider on the track. The JCA imposed a fine of $350.00. Checked near the 600 metres losing its chance.
HAVTIME - checked near the 600 metres losing its chance.
BUZINGA - shifted to a four wide position when improving round the field near the 1600 metres.
PRINCESS TIFFANY - when spoken to regarding the filly's performance Driver and Co-Trainer M Purdon advised he had been slightly disappointed with the efforts over the final stages. He added that in his opinion the filly was lacking in recent hard racing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.
MACEY MAGUIRE - checked near the 600 metres and fell to the track dislodging Junior Driver J MacKinnon. Mr MacKinnon was checked by St Johns and was cleared of injury and able to complete the rest of his drives. A post race veterinary examination showed the filly to have sustained a significant neck injury and was euthanised by the Veterinarian.
FLYING STEPS - heavily checked near the 600 metres falling heavily to the track dislodging Junior Driver B Butcher. Mr Butcher was transferred to hospital with suspected shoulder and arm injuries. A post race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to the left front cannon bone.

Race 7LINCOLN FARMS BLOODSTOCK 2018 FRANKLIN CUP (HANDICAP PACE)Video  Video
ALL U NEED IS FAITH - broke at the start losing all chance.
STAR GALLERIA - held up over the final stages of the run home when unable to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the manner in which he drove on straightening for the run home driver S Reid stated that he elected not to attempt to shift wider on the track due to the strong tempo as he felt his best option was to shift down off the back of LETS ELOPE to look to save ground. He added that given that his gelding had tended to lay in at this stage and would have proved difficult to shift wider on the track he felt it better to allow the horse to shift in than try and steer him wider. Mr Reid further advised that when considering the horse was fresh up since the NZ cup he had been taken by surprise with how well his horse had found the line and been unable to activate the removable deafeners due to being held up over the final stages. His comments were noted.
