ONE OVER DA STARS - back from the unruly at the start. Slow through the early stages. Trotted roughly and broke over the concluding stages. Stewards lodged a protest against 2nd placing being awarded under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations alleging ONE OVER DA STARS broke in excess of 50 metres in the final 200 metres of the race. After reviewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and driver R May, the JCA upheld the protest and ONE OVER DA STARS was disqualified.
SIOUX PRINCESS - back from the unruly at the start. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home. Broke approaching the 50 metres. Stewards questioned driver L McKay regarding her decision not to improve three wide with cover passing the 700 metres. Miss McKay explained that the mare had raced greenly throughout and had been unable to trail in close proximity to CELTIC THUNDER during the running and for this reason felt she may have been forced wider on the track by an inside runner had she improved her position. Miss McKay added that the horse is best suited when saved for one run at this stage of its career and it would be her intention to continue to drive the horse in this manner where circumstances permit.
