Race 8 - MCMILLANS 'TONNE OF FEED' PROMOTION MOBILE PACE
Stewards have concluded an investigation into the tactics adopted by driver N Williamson when electing not to improve outwards near the 500 metres when driving TRIPLE VC. Mr Williamson explained that the horse had been unable to obtain cover through the early stages and had been obliged to race parked until near the 1400 metres. Mr Williamson explained that due to the early work the horse had done he felt his best option was to remain in the two wide line passing the 500 metres and follow BOLD RULER into the race rather than commence a run and be forced to race very wide on the final bend similar to the horse's recent start when failing to run on. However shortly after it had become apparent that BOLD RULER had been under pressure and had not shifted wider on the track resulting in him becoming held up. After considering Mr Williamson's explanation, Stewards were satisfied that his explanation was not unreasonable in the circumstances however Mr Williamson was advised he must not drive in a manner that leaves himself open to query.
