Driver M Williamson was questioned in regards to the tactics he adopted on the mare from the outset when driving the mare forward to take the lead after it was reported at its most recent start that the mare would be driven with a sit should circumstances permit. Mr Williamson advised it had been his instruction and intent to restrain from the start, however once he saw BRIDESDALE ROBYN, which he believed would be the horse to lead from the start, had broken in the score up he decided he would utilize the mare's gate speed and then take cover as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Mr Williamson further advised that due to having no pressure for the lead throughout this option couldn't be undertaken. Stewards spoke with Trainer B Mowbray who confirmed his instructions had been to drive the mare with a sit however given the circumstances was happy in the decision that Mr Williamson had taken. Hung inwards rounding the final bend. Was held up for clear racing room for a brief period thereafter. Stewards questioned Driver M Williamson in regards to the tactics he adopted in particular his reasons not to improve through the middle stages. Mr Williamson advised due to the mare pacing roughly and the tempo of the race, he was reluctant to improve during this stage. Mr Williamson further added that had he improved down the back on the final occasion, he would have been pushed wider on the track and this would have been detrimental to the mare's chances. Mr Williamson also advised that due to GYPSY'S CHOICE hanging inwards rounding the final bend and horses making their runs six wide at this stage, he was best served to shift inwards and look for racing room through the middle. After taking his explanation into account, Stewards deemed Mr Williamson's drive to be not unreasonable and took the matter no further. | |
