BETTOR GETTA LOVER - hung outwards rounding the first bend.
WAR DAN DELIGHT - raced wide in the early stages until being taken forward to race outside the leader near the 1400 metres. Held up early and middle stages of the run home. Paced roughly passing the 50 metres. Stewards questioned driver T Williams as to why he did not improve his position outwards approaching the 500 metres to ensure he had not been covered up by the improving ULTIMATE SNIPER. Mr Williams explained that his horse had raced wide for a considerable distance in the early stages and the horse he was trailing at the time (A BETTOR ACT) appeared to be travelling comfortably. He said his runner was fresh up tonight and he was wary of having to do too much work. He added that at this time he had noticed GLOBAL DOMINATION lose the back of the leading JESSE DUKE and felt that runner may be under some pressure which would present him with an opportunity at a later stage. He also said that he had been aware of ULTIMATE SNIPER being wide for some distance and being its first run out of maidens was unsure how the colt would handle the rise in class. When this horse was still travelling well on the final bend, Mr Williams felt he would have been disadvantaged by restraining and shifting outwards and instead allowed his momentum to carry him inwards. After considering his explanation Stewards deemed his drive to be reasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
ZINNY MACH - broke near the 1600 metres after becoming awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of ULTIMATE SNIPER and when doing so made contact with the helmet of N Rasmussen causing her hat cover to be dislodged. When questioned regarding this, driver S Ottley advised the gelding had over-raced through the early stages and had continued to race fiercely when shifting inwards from a three wide position despite her efforts. Miss Ottley also reported the sliding blinds were not activated due to the cord becoming entangled.
WAR HERO - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced roughly near the 1000 metres and again passing the 350 metres. Received veterinary treatment following the race for a laceration on the right front heel. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
