Northern Southland TC - Saturday, 6th October 2018
Race 1 - NET TEN EOM AT MACCA LODGE PACE
Trainer A Hoffman advised Stewards that ITZ QUEEN OF ARTS had undergone a veterinary examination following its run at Ascot Park last week, which found the mare to be sore in the stifle. Miss Hoffman further advised she would alter the shoeing and return the mare to the trials prior to racing next.
Race 9 - GEOFF & JUDY KNIGHT/SOUTHERN CRUTCHING MOBILE PACE
Co-trainer G Knight advised Stewards on 10 October that FIERY FERRET has shown no ill-effects from its run at Ascot Park last week and has worked well in preparation for a resumption at Gore this week.

Race 1   HAMIL SADDLERY / ZILCO TROT
SHONA MARY - broke for several strides at the start.
HELLUVA WAY - broke at the start. Broke again near the 700 metres losing its chance.
SOUTH PARK - broke at the start. Broke again near the 1600 metres losing its chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
MAKE MY DAY - broke near the 600 metres. Connections were advised that the mare was stood down to trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion prior to racing next.
WHAT IF I'M RIGHT - broke at the start. Broke again near the 1800 metres losing all chance.
MOMENT OF GLORY - broke at the start then paced, before breaking again and losing all chance.
SPUR ME ON GENTLY - raced wide in the early stages. Over-raced near the 1000 metres. Weakened from the 600 metres.
WAYWARD ROC - inconvenienced by a breaking runner near the 500 metres.
KIWI HEIR - broke near the 2300 metres.
Race 2   TAPANUI FOUR SQUARE / DWAINS SERVICE CENTRE MOBILE PACE
BLARNEY BABE - held up rounding the final bend having to shift wider on the track to find clear racing room.
THISLADYROCKS - when questioned regarding the performance driver B Williamson advised he was disappointed with the effort however could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slightly elevated heart rate. Co-trainer G Knight advised the Stewards he was also disappointed with the effort and would have blood tests conducted in the coming days and undertook to notify the Stewards of any findings.
LAST HARAH - driver K Larsen advised he was unable to activate the removable deafeners applied to the gelding.
REAL CHANGE - shifted outwards entering the first bend. Under pressure near the 800 metres and compounded over the final stages. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
STAY ABOARD - raced wide in the early stages.
POLDARK - awkwardly positioned close to the runner in front near the 1500 metres.
DEPEND ON WASHIE - awkwardly positioned close to the runner in front near the 1500 metres resulting in the mare breaking briefly. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams advised he was disappointed with the effort however could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer T Stratford advised that the mare was not suited by having to work through the early and middle stages, as it had done on this occasion. Mr Stratford undertook to advise Stewards of anything that may come to light in the coming days to help explain the disappointing performance.
G T REACTOR - out of position at the Candy Pole despite the urgings of driver B Morris. Awkwardly positioned close to the runner in front near the 1500 metres resulting in the gelding breaking briefly and losing several lengths. Held up for some distance passing the 500 metres by a tiring runner.
BUSH MAN - awkwardly positioned close to the runner in front near the 1500 metres when driver M Williamson was attempting to regather the hopple shortener cord which had pulled through. This resulted in an easing of the pace with the trailing three runners being inconvenienced.
HANS IDEAL- driver C Ferguson admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used the whip more than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After viewing replays and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a suspension of Mr Ferguson's horseman's licence from the 14th October up to and including the 28th October (3 days).
Co-trainer G Knight advised Stewards on 18 October that blood tests revealed THISLADYROCKS to be suffering from muscle tie up with this being treated.
Trainer T Stratford advised Stewards on 19 October that DEPEND ON WASHIE has recovered well since its Gore performance and is now having a brief freshen up.
Race 3   GORE WINDSCREENS 'N' GLASS 2000 LTD MOBILE PACE
EL DINERO - attempted to shift inwards to the trailing position near the 1900 metres and had the inside sulky wheel struck by an inside runner resulting in the tyre deflating and the tube becoming entangled around the axle.
RAHURI BADLANDS - raced wide in the early stages.
BRIDESDALE ROBYN - raced wide in the early stages. Driver C Ferguson reported he did not activate the removable deafeners applied to the mare due to having the field covered.
JULES MANZONI - raced wide in the early stages.
IWANADANCEWITSUMBODY - raced roughly for several strides near the 500 metres after making contact with the sulky wheel of BRIDESDALE ROBYN. When spoken to regarding this junior driver E Barron advised the mare had run in on the bends throughout and proved difficult to steer. Miss Barron added she would be recommending gear alterations prior to IWANADANCEWITSUMBODY racing next.
ELLNBAC - held up rounding the final bend.
MAN I'M GOOD - struck the inside sulky wheel of EL DINERO near the 1900 metres resulting in the tyre deflating and the tube becoming entangled in the wheel axle. Driver A Kyle admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he had driven carelessly at this time. After viewing replays and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a suspension of Mr Kyle's horseman's licence from the 14th October up to and including 28th October (3 days)
Race 4   TRANSPORT REPAIRS GORE LIMITED MOBILE PACE
TUAPEKA LIGHT - hampered by a weakening runner near the 1000 metres. Held up for clear racing room rounding the final bend.
WEE RING THE CHANGES - paced roughly in the score-up and was back off the gate at the start. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the gelding.
APRIL ROSE - paced roughly and lay inwards throughout the final straight with driver N Williamson having to correct the mare on several occasions.
BRONTE LINDENNY - compounded and eased down from the 1200 metres . When questioned regarding this driver J Cox could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of being in season. Trainer R Swain advised the Stewards that it would be his intention to scratch the mare should she present in season on race day again. Mr Swain further added he would return BRONTE LINDENNY to the workouts prior to racing next.
SHEZDAWON - back off the gate at the start despite the efforts of driver B Barclay.
Race 5   EBONY N IVORY HAIRDEZIGN / T K SHANKS EXCAVATING MOBILE PACE
THE NIGHT HAWK - held up by a tiring runner on the final bend.
MR HANDLEMAN - driver B Williamson was reprimanded for the manner he used his whip when progressing forward near the 1200 metres.
BOLD RULER - raced wide in the early stages.
KAGEE VC - back off the gate at the start despite the efforts of driver S Walkinshaw.
Race 6   SBS BANK PACE
SQUARE DEALER - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Raced wide in the middle stages. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer C Barron.
SHERRY BABY - held up by a tiring runner near the 900 metres.
GOTTA B AWINNER - raced lethargically throughout.
ROMY FRANCO - weakened from the 700 metres. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer T Stratford advised he would no longer be persevering with the mare as a racing proposition from his stable.
MATINEE IDOL - raced wide through the early and middle stages.
SEFTON HOOLIGAN - weakened from the 500 metres. When questioned regarding the performance junior driver B Laughton advised that in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up from its most recent start at Invercargill on the 6th October.
TACT DENZEL -paced roughly near the 900 metres. Weakened from the 750 metres.
Race 7   COLIN BAYNES MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
CASCADIA - weakened from the 400 metres.
MATAI JETSTAR - stood on the mark as the tapes were released and was slow to begin. Trotted roughly near the 700 metres and weakened thereafter.
CUDDLY TROUBLE - broke shortly after the start. Weakened from the 600 metres.
IMRAN KHAN - held up for clear racing room rounding the final bend.
SAGE TROUBLE - raced wide in the early stages.
CLOVER LADY - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
PICKETTS RIDGE - broke shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover from the 1100 metres.
Race 8   JACCKA LODGE LADYSHIP STAKES FINAL (MOBILE PACE)
DALLAS GRIMES - raced wide in the early stages.
COUNTESS OF ARDEN - raced wide without cover until reaching the parked position near the 1000 metres. Weakened from the 500 metres. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver B Williamson expressed disappointment however could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer B Williamson advised it was his intention to have blood tests taken in the coming days. Stewards will follow this up with Mr Williamson.
SWEET CHILLI - refused to take any part in the score-up losing its chance. Stood down to trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion prior to racing next.
Trainer B Williamson advised Stewards on 19 October that blood tests showed COUNTESS OF ARDEN to be severely tied up following its Gore race adding that the filly is now having a brief freshen up while being treated.
Race 9   SIR LINCOLN AT ALABAR MOBILE PACE
PLEASE SHUDDUP - driver N Williamson advised he did not activate the removable deafeners applied to the gelding.
BETTOR SENSATION - raced wide through the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the final bend.
DELIGHT MY SOUL - held up rounding the final bend.
KILOWATT KID - driver T Chmiel reported that he received a punctured sulky tyre near the 1200 metres.
LAWRENCE - found to be lame on returning to the stable enclosure. A Veterinary examination showed the gelding to be lame in its off hind fetlock. Trainer A Black advised he would be having the horse further examined in the coming days. Stood down pending a clearance.
A subsequent Veterinary clearance was received after the gelding has recovered from a stress fracture to the right hind pastern.
Race 10   GRAEME ANDERSON/JONNY COX SUPPORTING GORE HRC MOBILE PACE
FRANCO HUNTINGTON - broke late in the score-up and failed to settle, losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the gelding.
THE CROUPIER - broke negotiating the first bend, losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding. Trainer S Matheson advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
FERRITTS SISTER - paced roughly in the score-up and was out of position at the start.
MEMPHIS TENNESSEE - paced roughly in the score-up and was out of position at the start.
COMMAND LUSTRE - inconvenienced by a breaking runner just prior to the start. Stewards withheld authorisation of all placings until they had spoken to driver J Cox who advised that despite receiving some minor interference his chances had not been materially prejudiced.
