Race 1 - COUNTRY FEASTS AMATEUR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
Stewards have concluded an investigation into the tactics adopted by driver B Wilmott (MACHS MARETA) from the 1000 metres when electing not to improve three wide with cover. Mr Wilmott explained that he had been instructed to save the mare for one run as she only possesses a very short sprint and felt that it would have been detrimental to the mare's chances by racing wide for a considerable period. Mr Wilmott added that he had lost ground approaching the 800 metres when checked by the breaking MANINTHEMIRROR resulting in him becoming awkwardly placed between runners. Stewards also spoke with trainer M Purvis who confirmed the instructions given to Mr Wilmott and added that the mare is best suited when saving as much ground as possible until the final straight. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied Mr Wilmott's actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
