Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

Trainer R Holmes was fined $200 after admitting a breach of Rule 404(1) in that he started an unregistered horse in Race 1 at the North Canterbury TOA Workouts on 1 August 2018.

At the completion of Race 7 Stewards spoke with several drivers regarding the foggy conditions and the viability of running the remaining races due to the poor visibility. After speaking with the horsemen and the Club, Stewards put the meeting back one race and during the 30 minute delay the fog cleared.

Race 8 - HOUSE OF TRAVEL JUNIOR DRIVERS (HEAT 2) MOBILE PACE
Driver B Munro (REDDINGTON) admitted a breach of Rule 303(2) in that he misconducted himself when directing insulting and abusive language towards other drivers during the running. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA reserved their decision.

Race 1 - BISHOPDALE / BUSH INN TABS & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE
Driver P Wallace defended a charge under Rule 869(2) alleging he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations when driving JOEY MAGUIRE. After reviewing the films and hearing evidence, the JCA upheld the charge and imposed a fine of $500.

Race 2 - NORTH OTAGO MOTOR GROUP MOBILE PACE
Trainer R Dunn advised Stewards on 1 August that DE LANCOME has recovered well following its disappointing effort at Oamaru on Sunday adding that the mare has had a change in diet and training regime in preparation for a resumption next weekend.

Co-Trainer T Chmiel advised Stewards on 1 August that WAR HORSE is being treated for a throat infection following its disappointing performance at Oamaru last Sunday.

OPAWA MACH - over-raced middle stages. Struck pylons on the final bend. Stewards spoke with driver M Maynard regarding this who advised that his horse had shifted inwards when he was attempting to activate gear. Mr Maynard was cautioned for his lack of control at this time and advised to make a better effort in future.
BETTOR BACKIM - hung outwards in the early stages and locked wheels with MYBOYLOLLIEPOP for a short distance.
MYBOYLOLLIEPOP - paced roughly and broke after 100 metres. Will now be drawn unruly for mobile starts. Raced wide early and middle stages. Raced keenly throughout. Disqualified from 4th placing by the JCA for galloping in excess of 150 metres in the early stages.
TAKE AFTER ME - hung outwards leaving the final bend despite the efforts of driver T Quate.
ROYAL JESTER - driver A Edge was spoken to regarding the manner he shifted inwards in the early stages when he briefly restricted the racing room of MYBOYLOLLIEPOP.
MANINTHEMIRROR - held up for clear running in the early and middle stages of the home straight. Driver N Munro advised he did not activate the sliding blinds on the gelding. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer M Jones advised the horse had benefited from a drop in class.
WARLOCH - out of position at the start. Driver W Parsons was issued with a warning. Improved wide from the 600 metres. When questioned regarding the gelding's performance, driver W Parsons explained he had been reluctant to shift even wider at an earlier time due to the horse being fresh up for over one year and had hung inwards leaving the final bend and when attempting to shift wider near the 250 metres causing the gelding to be held up for some distance. Mr Parsons will be spoken to regarding the manner he drove shortly after the finish of the race.
JOEY MAGUIRE - had to be steadied in the early stages when awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of EVERY OPTION which shifted inwards marginally. Raced roughly for several strides when being shifted wider on the final bend.
EVERY OPTION - held up early and middle stages of the home straight. An investigation was opened into the tactics of driver B Wilmott between the 600 metres and the 450 metres when he did not improve his position outwards to gain a covered three wide run into the race.

HE WAS ROMEO - stood on the mark and refused to move off. Will now be drawn unruly for standing starts.
THE COMMANDO - fractious behind the barriers. Lay outwards under pressure through the final straight. When spoken to regarding the entire's performance, driver M Williamson advised that he was disappointed with the effort and would give consideration to having the horse gelded.
PASTRANA - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Weakened final bend. Broke again near the 200 metres. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
DESERT PRINCE - broke racing into the first bend for a short distance. Again broke near the 1300 metres losing its chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion. Trainer R Marshall advised that the horse would be sent for a spell.
LOVEY DOVEY MOMENT - raced roughly on occasions through the middle stages when outside the leader. Trotted roughly over the final stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance driver J Keast advised that they had added weight to the shoes of the gelding and the horse had been working well in preparation for tonight's race.
TOPNOTCH TITAN - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
RAINING IN MY HEART - weakened final bend. Driver R Holmes reported that the gelding had trotted roughly rounding the bends.

IMMORTAL CHANGE - over-raced middle stages.
EASTWOOD CHIEFTAIN - the boring pole was removed prior to the start after warming up unfavourably.
MORDECAI - briefly locked wheels with DELIGHTFUL TANNER which was hanging near the 50 metres.
BEAU VISTA - over-raced for a distance passing the 1300 metres when being restrained to obtain cover. When questioned regarding the gelding's performance, co-trainer and driver A Lethaby explained that the horse had worked hard in the early stages to improve to the lead before racing keenly. Mrs Lethaby added that the horse had blown up over the back following the race and expected the gelding to derive benefit from the run.
DELIGHTFUL TANNER - raced wide early stages. Paced roughly in the home straight. Hung outwards and briefly locked wheels with MORDECAI near the 50 metres.
COLLECTION - held up early stages of the home straight.
BELLE OF BROOKLYN - held up early stages of the home straight. Driver L McKay reported she did not activate the mare's sliding blinds.
IT'S A DEAL - raced four wide from the 800 metres.

BEEN TO JENNY'S - driver K Cameron admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations and was fined $200 by the JCA.
STATELY - raced greenly near the 1100 metres and shifted up the track.
THE OPTIMIST - hampered near the 1100 metres.
MY NIKAYLA - returned to the stables with a small amount of blood present in both nostrils. A post-race veterinary examination including an endoscopy confirmed that the horse was not a bleeder. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of a post exercise endoscopic examination.
MATAU GEM - broke briefly in the score up. Broke again shortly after the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the mare. Held up final bend.
BILLIE JEAN - checked shortly after the start by a breaking runner. Broke near the 400 metres.
SHARNAE - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
GOTTA PARTY DOLL - hampered near the 1100 metres.
ROBYN'S GEM - over-raced middle stages. Broke near the 1100 metres. Held up final bend. Struck pylons near the 300 metres. Driver S Tomlinson was issued with a warning.
 
Race 5HYNDS HANDICAP PACEVideo  Video 
FRIEND - weakened in the early stages of the run home. When spoken to regarding the gelding's efforts, driver G Smith advised that he had been disappointed with the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the horse with trainer P Burrows in the coming days.
THE TIN SOLDIER - fractious prior to the start causing a delay. Stood on the mark losing all chance Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
POSSENTE CAVALLO - stood on the mark and then reared losing all chance. The all clear was delayed until Stewards had reviewed the films and spoken to driver M Hurrell to determine whether his runner had been interfered with prior to the start. This enquiry determined that the mare missed the start due to its own manners and will now be drawn unruly for standing starts with the all clear being authorised.
TACT MAGGIE - broke at the start.
REGAL MAJOR - weakened final bend. When spoken to regarding the gelding's performance, trainer/driver J Cox could only advise he had been very disappointed with its efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
GYPSY'S CHOICE - held up by a tiring runner final bend.
DON DOMINGO - had to shift ground in the early stages to avoid a Starter's assistant who had entered the track to assist a wayward runner. Stewards reviewed this incident prior to the authorisation of dividends but were satisfied it had no material bearing on the gelding's chances.
Stewards spoke with Starter's assistant D van Werkhooven regarding an incident in the early stages where in the process of attempting to assist a wayward runner he ran onto the track into the path of DON DOMINGO who had started from a 35 metre handicap. Notwithstanding the fact that Mr van Werkhooven was not contacted or injured he was still reprimanded for failing to pay due attention and placing himself and participants in a dangerous situation.

RUM IN THE SUN - held up final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
AGATHA TYRON - trotted roughly and broke after 100 metres and was retired from the race.
REDWOOD INVASION - when spoken to regarding the gelding's effort, trainer/driver R Holmes could only advise he had been disappointed with the manner his horse had finished the race off.

PIRATE BAY - held up early stages of the run home. Driver M Hurrell advised he did not activate the deafeners on this gelding.
ALL NUTS N BOLTS - weakened final bend.
SAYING GRACE - driver B Hope reported he did not activate the deafeners on the winner.
CULLENBURN - Stewards questioned Junior driver S Tomlinson regarding her decision to restrain at the start in contrast to its recent racing pattern. Miss Tomlinson advised that her instructions had been to avoid engaging in an early speed duel and if possible move forward in the middle stages. Miss Tomlinson said that she felt it was unlikely she would be able to take the front from FRANCO HAMPTON after that gelding's last start performance and was reluctant to expend unnecessary energy attempting to do so. Trainer B Hill when spoken to, confirmed those instructions and felt the horse was capable of winning from the parked position if necessary.
CHRISTMAS TOYBOY - lay inwards on the first bend.

CHEEZEL - briefly disappointed for clear racing room near the 100 metres having to be steadied for several strides.
THE BUCKEYE BULLET - lay outwards in the final straight. Driver B Orange was issued with a warning to take better corrective action in future.
ART COURAGE - lay outwards under pressure through the final straight. Driver S Ottley was issued with a warning to take better corrective action in future.
JUNGLE GEM - checked near the 950 metres.
ROSINUPTHEBOW - hung inwards and locked wheels with ILDIVO passing the 1000 metres losing all chance.
MARTIN JOHN - broke briefly at the start. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the gelding.
ILDIVO - locked wheels with ROSINUPTHEBOW which hung inwards passing the 1000 metres losing all chance.
SIR FORTUNE - checked passing the 950 metres losing all chance.

HEAVENLY LOVE - broke near the 200 metres.
STAR PRIDE - broke at the start. Weakened final bend.
LOUIS MOSS - slow to begin.

UNIQUE MARSHALL - carried a flat tyre for the final 600 metres. Weakened final bend.
TESSA'S ROCKET - paced at the start before breaking.
MAJESTIC MOMENT - driver S Ottley was fined $200 for driving carelessly near the 600 metres when shifting out and striking the sulky wheel of UNIQUE MARSHALL.

A BETTER DANCER - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
SHINING FROST - held up throughout the run home. Driver K Cameron reported he did not activate the deafeners.
AMORE LANCOME - broke at the start.
NUCLEUS VC - driver C DeFilippi admitted using his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After submissions on penalty the JCA suspended his Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 23 August 2018 (4 days).
SHERRY BABY - broke racing into the first bend losing all chance. Stewards stood the mare down pending a satisfactory trial. Trainer N McGrath reported he would no longer be persevering with the horse.
DADNDAVE - raced four wide from the 600 metres. Hung inwards and broke near the 400 metres.
SOUNDS BETTOR - driver K O'Reilly admitted using his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After submissions on penalty the JCA suspended his Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 19 August 2018 (3 days).
TRACKSAREFORTRAINS - held up for clear racing room for the majority of the home straight.
IZZY DAGG - raced four wide from the 700 metres.

FYNN FROST - over-raced approaching the 1000 metres and had to be steadied for several strides.
