Trainer M Purvis advised Stewards on 22 June that MACHS MARETA has had its hocks injected since last racing and will return to trials before resuming.

Race 1MONARO MIA GROUP 1 RUNNER UP HANDICAP TROTVideo  Video 
ALDEBARAN BONNY - held up early stages of the run home. Trotted roughly in the home straight and was unable to be driven out with any vigour. Driver L Lester advised that she would be making a gear change and remove the whip for the horse's upcoming starts.
MONARO MARO - broke at the start. Broke again racing into the first bend.
DEAUVILLE - shifted outwards leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding this driver J Cox reported the horse to have lay outwards under pressure and begun trotting roughly. He added the horse had done similar in a recent trial leading him to be slightly cautious. Despite this Mr Cox was advised to make a more discernible effort to maintain a straight course. Trotted roughly and broke over the final stages.
NOBLE MISTRESS - Stewards lodged a Protest under Rule 869A(2) and the Passing Lane Regulations 6 against 2nd place being awarded to NOBLE MISTRESS alleging that the mare shifted inwards into the passing lane when having an unimpeded run to the finish resulting in MADELEINE STOWE being denied clear racing room throughout the run home. After hearing from all parties, the JCA upheld the protest and NOBLE MISTRESS was relegated to 4th place. Junior driver M Anderson (assisted by senior horseman J Dunn) admitted a charge under Rule 869(4) and the Passing Lane Regulations 6 for failing to maintain a straight course to the finish of the race. After hearing submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended Mr Anderson's licence from the conclusion of racing on the 29th of June until the close of racing on the 5th of July (2 days).
MADELEINE STOWE - held up for clear running in the home straight. Promoted to 3rd place on Protest.
NATIVE ONEINAMILLION - paced at the start before breaking losing all chance.
VALLEY STAR - cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
RARANGI OPAL - Broke near the 50 metres.
UNIQUE MARSHALL - slow to begin.
 
Race 2TWO TREE LODGE MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
JAFFA - raced greenly in the score up and was out of position at the candy pole.
GOTTA TICKET - driver J Cox was issued with a warning for the abrupt manner that he shifted ground on the final bend.
STOPPITT - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room through the final straight.
ONEDIN EXPRESS - over-raced when being restrained in the early stages.
CHOICE LUSTRE - raced wide in the early stages.
IAMTHEDREAM - crowded on the final bend.
BE MINE TONIGHT - when spoken to regarding the improved performance, driver J Keast explained that the horse had been spelled since disappointing at the end of its last preparation. Mr Keast added that the horse had won a recent workout and had benefited from the addition of blinds.
TORNADO - over-raced in the middle stages. Raced roughly when shifting ground inwards on the final bend.
MAHKSMAN - over-raced in the middle stages. Held up throughout the run home. Driver D Dunn reported he did not activate the removable deafeners.
 
Race 3ASURE SUNDOWNER MOTEL MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
RORY BROWN - broke shortly after the start and fell to the track dislodging driver J Cox. Stewards stopped the race in accordance with Rule 211A(1) after approximately 300 metres due to RORY BROWN being unable to be cleared from the track. RORY BROWN was declared a late scratching by Stewards. All runners were examined by the vet and cleared to take part in the restart. RORY BROWN was examined by the vet and found to have sustained superficial grazes. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance and must trial satisfactorily on one occasion. Driver J Cox was assessed by St John Paramedics and cleared to fulfil his remaining driving engagements.
THE LAST STRAW - held up early stages of the run home.
NANS CHOICE - when spoken to regarding the performance driver R May advised that the horse had been unsuited to the slow tempo of the race in the early and middle stages and the strong closing sectionals.
MACKS COURAGE - held up for clear racing room late in the run home.
BONNIE BOY - over-raced racing into the first bend when being restrained to obtain a trail.
SHAMROCK BROMAC - shifted inwards under pressure in the home straight. When questioned whether he could have improved his position prior to the 350 metres driver G O'Reilly explained that the gelding only possesses a short sprint at this stage of its career and will be continued to be driven in this manner where possible in future.
VELOCETTE - held up for clear racing room throughout the home straight.
CONQUISTADOR - paced roughly in the home straight before breaking near the 50 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.

The start was delayed five minutes until 1.19pm due to the fall in the previous race.
NANDOLO - when spoken to regarding the performance of the gelding, driver J Cox reported that he had intended improving to the lead near the 1600 metres however the horse had raced lethargically and had been unable to muster enough speed to cross TALL POPPY. Mr Cox added that he would consult with trainer J Howe and consider gear changes for the second day of the meeting.
TALL POPPY - when questioned regarding the performance, driver D Dunn advised the horse had received every opportunity and could offer no explanation.
DIRECT CONTROL - when spoken to regarding the improved performance, driver B Orange explained that the horse had been unsuited to racing in the open two starts ago, so they elected to drive the horse with a sit at its last start. However the horse had sustained a punctured sulky tyre placing him at a disadvantage.
 
Race 5MEATERS OF MARLBOROUGH HANDICAP TROTVideo  Video 
KAI TIME - broke at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages. Trotted roughly near the 1000 metres. Weakened rounding the final bend.
MILLIONDOLLARMONKEY - broke at the start losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer B Hill.
TAIMATE ANGUS - held up final bend.
ANNA KATE - weakened rounding the final bend.
ARDEE TROUBLE - hung inwards and broke near the 200 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.

BLINGITON - over-raced middle stages. Weakened final bend.
EMIRA - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver S Abernethy. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the mare. Raced wide from the 1100 metres. Weakened final bend.
STONEBRIDGE CULLEN - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver G Anderson. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the mare. Weakened final bend.
TAKE AFTER ME - held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home.
 
Race 7MARLBOROUGH EXPRESS HANDICAP PACEVideo  Video 
DANA DAWN - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Held up for clear racing room throughout the run home.
GAME CHANGER - paced roughly at the start. Stewards spoke with driver P Davis regarding the manner he shifted ground after 100 metres. After hearing from Mr Davis, Stewards adjourned the matter.
CHANGE IS GOOD - when spoken to regarding the performance, driver D Dunn advised that the horse was racing up in grade however he had still been slightly disappointed with the effort
SHADOWMAN - crowded for racing room at the start and began awkwardly.
EVERY OPTION - broke at the start.
OUT OF ACES - broke racing into the first bend checking TINKER TAILOR. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
TINKER TAILOR - crowded and broke after 100 metres. Checked and broke briefly racing into the first bend. Stewards will speak with driver B Orange in the coming days.
EASTWOOD CHIEFTAIN - tangled away. Weakened final bend.
SOME EXCUSESOMEWHERE - broke at the start. When spoken to regarding the improved performance, driver S Ottley explained that the horse had been checked out of the race at its last start when the stable were confident of a forward showing. Miss Ottley added that in her opinion this race was a drop in class from the horse's last assignment.
Stewards spoke with drivers P Davis (GAME CHANGER) and B Orange (TINKER TAILOR) regarding the breaking of TINKER TAILOR after approximately 100 metres. After hearing from both drivers, it was established that Mr Davis had shifted down the track when clearance existed however TINKER TAILOR which had been improving forward had over-reacted to being restrained by Mr Orange causing the horse to pace roughly and break. Accordingly no further action was deemed necessary.

DIAMONDS N CASH - broke at the start. Weakened from the 800 metres.
SMARTER VC - held up throughout the home straight.
FORGOTTEN HIGHWAY - hampered at the start.
PRADAS IDEAL DAHLING - paced roughly at the start. Hung inwards racing into the first bend.
COLE PORTER - held up for racing room in the early and middle stages of the home straight.

SCELTA UNO - weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance, driver R Holmes could offer no explanation and was disappointed with the effort. A post race Veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the mare with trainer R Stuart.
JOHNNY WHITE - held up final bend
MARTIN JOHN - over-raced in the early stages
WRANGLER - driver J Dunn reported he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
Trainer R Stuart advised Stewards on 24 June that SCELTA UNO had recovered well following its disappointing performance at its last start.
