NUI MAY TAU - slow to score-up and was back from the unruly position throughout. Worked forward to lead near the 1500 metres. Run down final stages into 5th placing 5.2 lengths in arrears of the leader. Driver Z Butcher advised that the gelding, which he had positioned back from the field in preparation for the score up to keep it settled, initially did not move toward the mobile gate when called by the Starter as it jibbed and was slow to move away giving it a bigger task to catch the mobile . Despite this he had improved the unruly runner to be approximately three lengths out of position at the start and when it had settled into a rhythm over the early stages of the race he improved forward to go to the lead, in his opinion he made up the leeway in the score-up easily and that he was actually disappointed with the horse's overall performance. Mr Butcher also advised that he was unable to activate the removable deafeners as the activation cord broke. The Starter Mr G Benton was questioned by the Stewards as to NUI MAY TAU's position at the start of the score-up as to whether the distance it was back from the rest of the field was prudent. The starter stated that the horse's barrier manners were of concern however he felt that it had made up the leeway and was not denied a fair start. | |
