Driver L Lester was unable to fulfill her engagement to drive CLASSIE REGAL in Race 5 due to injury and was replaced as per the summary below. Miss Lester was advised that she must supply a medical clearance prior to resuming driving.

Driver G Smith (BRONX VILLAGE) was fined $750 by the JCA after admitting a breach of Rule 869(2) for using his whip to strike another runner (REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY) near the 200 metres during Race 12 at the North Canterbury TOA meeting on 9 May 2018.

Race 2 - RIVER FIELD MOBILE PACE
Trainer M House advised Stewards on 11 May that TACTICAL CHANGE showed no ill-effects following its performance at Manawatu on 3 May. Mr House further advised that the gelding will no longer race from his stable.

Stable representative S Tomlinson advised Stewards on 12 May that ROCKNPOP had recovered well from its last start and will continue with its current preparation.
Race 9 - AIRPARK CANTERBURY CONGRATULATES ALTA ORLANDO HANDICAP PACE
Co-Trainer J Cox advised Stewards on 11 May that REGAL MAJOR has been treated for a virus since its performance at Rangiora last Sunday with Mr Cox adding that the gelding will have a brief spell while recovering.

BETTOR BACKIM - lay outwards over the concluding stages.
OPAWA MACH - hung inwards late in the run home.
FLAMBOYANT - raced wide early stages. Unable to gain clear racing room in the final straight.
MYBOYLOLLIEPOP - broke for a short distance racing into the first bend when racing to the inside of ROYAL JESTER. Broke again late in the run home when placed in restricted room between runners. Stewards questioned drivers G Cook (MYBOYLOLLIEPOP) and A Edge (ROYAL JESTER) regarding the breaking of MYBOYLOLLIEPOP approaching the first bend. Mr Cook advised that one hopple shortener had activated and in consequence the horse had become unbalanced when being steadied momentarily. Notwithstanding this Mr Edge was cautioned to ensure he allows inside runners sufficient room in future.
PAT CAMPBELL - driver C Negus reported she did not activate the sliding blinds on the winner.
ROYAL JESTER - raced wide early stages. Unable to gain clear racing room in the final straight.
TRAILER PARK GIRL - driver S Murtha was spoken to regarding his use of the whip.
DYING TO SEE YOU - unable to gain clear racing room in the final straight.
GOING TO CALIFORNIA - lay inwards in the home straight. Driver B Wilmott was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.

COSMIC SUN - driver D Dunn reported he was unable to activate the deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.
PEGGY NOVA - held up on the final bend.
SOME TIME - raced wide until near the 1850 metres when taken forward to race outside the leader. Held up throughout the run home.
FOLLY'S TROUBLE - raced wide early stages before being improved to the lead near the 1800 metres.
CHRISTMAS BABE - tangled away. Raced wide early stages. Weakened final bend.
PASTRANA - broke on the bend approaching the 1000 metres.
ONE YANKEE SON - broke racing into the first bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record. Trainer/driver L O'Reilly requested the gelding be drawn unruly for standing starts and advised the horse will be returned to the trials.
NOBLE MISTRESS - raced wide early stages.
LITTLE MISS - broke in the early stages losing its chance.
RITES OF ZHOU - driver K Cox was warned to ensure she starts wider on the track when drawn unruly. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.

FIRSTJOY - raced wide early stages.
MATAU GEM - raced wide early stages. Over-raced middle stages. When spoken to regarding the improved performance, trainer S Hale explained he had increased the mare's workload significantly and that she had also benefited from a favourable draw today.
ONEDIN EXPRESS - over-raced near the 1100 metres and became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of DON'T TELL ANGE.
MIRANDA CULLEN - raced wide early stages. Weakened final bend.
NIGHT LIGHTS - held up final bend.
TRIBECA - broke after 100 metres losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record. Driver M Purvis advised he would be recommending gear changes.
REKLAW'S GEM - broke shortly after the start. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier record.
WITH THE BAND - over-raced early stages.

WESTAR SAM - Stewards questioned trainers C and J Kennett and driver M Anderson regarding the horse being presented late onto the track. After hearing from all parties it was established this was as a result of a communication error and both parties were spoken to advisedly.

SHEEZ GOOD - briefly came together with QUEEN OF GLORY near the 150 metres. Hung inwards passing the 100 metres.
SWEET MARYLOU - broke at the start.
QUEEN OF GLORY - briefly came together with SHEEZ GOOD near the 150 metres.
AVEROSS FERRARI - held up early stages of the home straight.
JAY FM - broke at the start hampering a trailing runner and lost all chance.
STOMPEM - broke at the start. Raced wide early stages.
TEXAS RULER - hampered in the early stages losing ground.

IDEAL INVASION - broke in the early stages losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
WOT UP - raced wide early stages.
ALI LINDENNY - broke at the start.
DON'T LOOK BACK - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home and trotted roughly.
SUPERFAST MAGGIE - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
INSIGNIFICANT - swung sideways at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.

ALL MONEY - checked and broke on the first bend losing its chance.
KENDRA - broke at the start.
MASTER MILANO - broke at the start. Hampered rounding the first bend losing ground.
TIN ROOF BLUES - broke at the start. Weakened leaving the final bend. Driver C McDowell reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
SOUNDS BETTOR - hampered in the early stages.
XMAS BAY - hampered in the early stages. Broke on the first bend checking a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
MOYTURA - over-raced leaving the final bend and held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
MAGICAL MACCA - held up final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
TINKER TAILOR - when questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised he was very disappointed. He added that the gelding may not have backed up from its run on the 6th of May and consideration would be given to the horse having a freshen up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
AIN'T NOTHING BETTOR - Trainer P Robertson issued a $50 Minor Infringement Notice after being late to notify the mare will be racing without blinds.
 
Race 8BROSNAN TRANSPORT MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
BIRD OF PARADISE - when questioned regarding the improved performance, the connections advised the mare had been racing well and they were confident leading into the race and had benefited from a favourable draw today.
AVEROSS BRACHOLE - locked wheels with MACHS MARETA near the 500 metres and gave ground rapidly in consequence with trailing runners being checked. Stewards questioned drivers K Cox (AVEROSS BRACHOLE) and A Tomlinson (MACHS MARETA) regarding this incident. It was established that AVEROSS BRACHOLE had hung outwards when being shifted to a three wide position simultaneous to MACHS MARETA hanging inwards and striking a knee when improving forward. After hearing from both drivers, Stewards were satisfied that no one horse or driver was at fault and accordingly took the matter no further.
IT'S A DEAL - over-raced in the middle stages. Checked final bend.
LIVING LEGEND - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after starting in Race 1 and was cleared to start. Checked final bend.
KIEL - checked final bend.
MACHS MARETA - raced wide in the early and middle stages until being taken forward near the 1800 metres to race outside the leader. Locked wheels with AVEROSS BRACHOLE near the 500 metres and gave ground rapidly in consequence.
HONOUR THE BET - checked final bend. Driver C Purvis reported she sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
SKY CITY KING - checked and broke final bend.

ESCALERA - driver G Smith was warned for the manner he shifted ground racing into the first bend when crowding an inside runner.
THE CRIMSON PRINCE - hung outwards in the score up.
GOTTAGETTABEER - paced roughly rounding the final bend.
BETTERTHANKATY - out of position at the start. Driver R Anderson was issued with a warning.
KATAMACH - had to be steadied racing into the first bend when crowded by ESCALERA.
DEMETER - broke racing into the bend near the 1800 metres.
BELLA VELOCE - out of position at the start. Driver T Chmiel was issued a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100. In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful Mr Chmiel had previously been cautioned in regards to this.

ARDEE TROUBLE - broke racing into the first bend hampering AGATHA TYRON. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
JEAN SEBASTIEN - trotted roughly throughout.
AGATHA TYRON - hampered racing into the first bend. Weakened leaving the final bend. The near side number hung loose during the running. Stewards will follow up with trainer P O'Reilly regarding the performance of this horse.
TIME FOR DIAMONDS - broke near the 1700 metres losing all chance.
STYLISH DUKE - the required veterinary clearance was received.

GAME CHANGER - struck a pylon when shifting inwards to utilise the passing lane. Driver P Davis warned to ensure he makes a greater effort to avoid striking track markers.
MACHITELLI - Trainer B White reported that he would be instructing the horse be driven with a sit when circumstances permit. Hung inwards in the home straight.
CHITURA - raced wide early stages. Driver C Thornley advised he did not activate the removable deafeners on the winner.
JOHNNY WHITE - held up throughout the run home.
