Driver R May reported he had not been able to release his deafeners due to the cord breaking. When spoken to regarding the gelding's performance Mr May advised that the gelding had been beaten for early speed and then commenced to over-race when being restrained back into position and this may have been its undoing.
HENRY HUBERT - hung in the score up and was a length out of position at the candy pole prior to the start. Improved three wide from the 1200 metres to race outside the leader passing the 800 metres. Inclined to lay in rounding the final bend.

Mr Dunn explained the horse had previously been driven in a forward manner from handy draws but recently, and from second line draws, the stable felt the horse was finishing its races in a more positive manner when driven for one run. Accordingly he was instructed to continue with these tactics.
