EARTHQUAKE - checked in the score up with a false start declared. Paced roughly over the concluding stages.
GERALD - held up throughout the run home. Stewards questioned driver J McDermott as to why he did not improve his position near the 300 metres when the opportunity was still available instead remaining in the two wide line and being unable to obtain clear racing room. After considering his explanation, Stewards issued Mr McDermott with a charge under Rule 868(2) in that he had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his runner was given full opportunity to finish in the best possible position. Mr McDermott (assisted by R Holmes) admitted the charge and after submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended his Amateur Horseman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 13 April up to and including 6 July 2018.
ALLONBLACK - a false start was declared after ALLONBLACK refused to score up checking ALEXY, EARTHQUAKE and FLAMBOYANT with the drivers of ALLONBLACK and FLAMBOYANT being dislodged. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Driver D Patterson was checked by St John personnel and cleared to continue driving. Mr Patterson elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start.
BETTOR BACKIM - held up in the early stages of the run home only obtaining clear racing room near the 150 metres. Stewards questioned driver S Blake as to why she did not improve her position near the 350 metres when the opportunity was still available instead remaining in the two wide line and being unable to obtain clear racing room. After considering her explanation, Stewards issued Ms Blake with a charge under Rule 868(2) in that she had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure her runner was given full opportunity to finish in the best possible position. Ms Blake admitted the charge and after considering submissions on penalty, the JCA suspended her Amateur Horsewoman's Licence from the conclusion of racing on 8 April up to and including 1 July 2018.
RUSSIAN EXPRESS - hung inwards early stages of the run home. Trainer/driver A Edge advised it was his intention to add a boring pole to the gelding's gear.
LIVING LEGEND - raced wide in the early stages.
ALEXY - checked in the score up with a false start declared.
FLAMBOYANT - checked in the score up with driver P Cook being dislodged and a false start declared. Mr Cook was checked by St John personnel and cleared to continue driving.
AVEROSS BRACHOLE - raced roughly near the 150 metres. Driver N Munro advised he did not activate the blinds.

FOREIGNER - broke at the start.
DON'T ROCK THE BOAT - slow to begin. Trotted roughly near the 600 metres losing ground.
WITH ICE - broke at the start losing all chance.
ONE OVER DA SKYE - raced wide in the early stages. Raced roughly and then broke near the 150 metres when attempting to utilise the passing lane.
THIS WAY COMES - paced away and lost all chance.
ALDEBARAN BONNY - broke leaving the 800 metres.
NOBLE MISTRESS - tired inside the 500 metres.
RED HARBOUR - broke after 100 metres.

TOM ME GUN - held up on the final bend and in the early and middle stages of the run home.
LITTLE MISS LONELY - tired inside the 500 metres.
MOCKINGJAY - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
TALL POPPY - raced wide in the early stages. Driver D Dunn advised he did not activate the removable gear.
GOTTA TICKET - raced wide in the early stages.
MATAU GEM - raced wide from the 1300 metres.
SHE'S OUTSTANDING - driver C Thornley advised the mare had over-raced.
FUN IN THE DARK - raced roughly near the 1600 metres. Over-raced near the 1300 metres and again when held up on the final bend.
REKLAW'S GEM - raced wide in the early stages. Cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
ART BANKER - attempted to buck and then broke in the early stages of the score up and was back several lengths at the start. The connections were advised the filly has been stood down pending completion of a satisfactory mobile trial.

NATIVES LASTING LOVE - broke at the start.
BELMONT'S GREATEST - when questioned regarding the performance, driver D Dunn could only advise he had been disappointed with its efforts over the final stages. The connections advised the gelding will be sent for a spell.
LARCH - refused to move up and was sent to the unruly position. Broke as the start was effected losing its chance. The connections were advised that the gelding is now stood down pending a satisfactory trial from a stand. Trainer G McClymont advised it was her intention to spell the horse.
WESTY BOYZ - held up round the final bend.
AVEROSS DON - broke near the 1550 metres hampering trailing runners and was retired from the event.
DON'T LOOK BACK - weakened over the final stages after racing in the open throughout.
THE FOX - hampered near the 1500 metres.
JEDI JOSH - broke near the 2200 metres losing all chance. Driver L McKay reported the gelding to have struck itself with a minor laceration on the left front leg.
SPURRED BY SUCCESS - hampered near the 1500 metres. Held up in the early stages of the run home.
MICHELLE - slow in the early stages.
Trainer A Faulks advised Stewards on 15 May that following its last run at Rangiora on 8 April AVEROSS DON was treated for ulcers and muscle tie-up.

CHRISTIAN LADY - had difficulty coming out of the pre-race formation and then broke losing its chance. The connections were advised the mare had been stood down pending a satisfactory mobile trial.
CINDY BROMAC - refused to move out of the pre-race formation losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
QUEEN OF GLORY - held up on the final bend by a weakening runner.

MY EYRE - broke at the start losing all chance.
ALPINE SUN - broke at the start losing all chance.
IDEAL INVASION - broke after 200 metres.
MISS MOPPET - broke near the 1000 metres when being taken forwards to apply pressure to the lead of FREE BIRD. Trotted roughly over the final stages and was not able to be fully extended. Authorisation of 2nd place was withheld until Stewards confirmed the filly had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
FREE BIRD - raced wide until near the 2000 metres. Broke passing the 80 metres. A final warning was placed on the mare's racing record.
TRICKY RASTUS - inconvenienced by a breaking runner near the 2400 metres having to be steadied.

MISS BIG - tired from the 500 metres. When questioned regarding the filly's performance, co-trainer and driver T Chmiel could only advise he had been disappointed with her efforts. He further advised he would have blood tests taken this week and undertook to notify the findings to Stewards.
JONTY JAMES - driver C Thornley advised the removable deafeners were not activated due to the cord breaking.
ALTA SHELBY - raced wide in the early stages. Held up near the 400 metres.
SAMSKARA - over-raced middle stages.
APOCALYPSE - raced wide without cover from the 800 metres. Carried a flat tyre from the 400 metres.
SKIPPERLAND - broke shortly after the start losing its chance. Trainer R Holmes was advised the filly has been stood down to complete one satisfactory mobile trial.
Co-Trainer T Chmiel advised Stewards on 12 April that MISS BIG was still showing signs of a virus after racing at Rangiora on 8 April. Subsequent blood tests have shown a clear result with the filly now having a brief freshener before resuming.

DIANA HARBOUR - inconvenienced near the 2100 metres.
REDWOOD INVASION - broke near the 2100 metres inconveniencing DIANA HARBOUR momentarily. Broke near the 250 metres.
