Race 5 - PARK & EVENT FUNCTION CENTRE MOBILE PACE
Stewards spoke to Drivers J Campbell and N Williamson regarding the reasons SKY CITY KING broke nearing the 1000 metres. After taking into account the submissions tendered by both drivers and viewing all available films it was established that BEAUDIENE GAMBLER had attempted to pull up on Mr Williamson once he had gained the parked position resulting in it coming back onto SKY CITY KING causing this horse to become awkwardly placed on its wheel. Taking this evidence into account Stewards cautioned Mr Williamson to ensure he allows sufficient room to inside runners when shifting ground in future and spoke to Mr Campbell advisedly for the manner in which he had driven at this stage of the race.
Race 6 - SPEIGHTS MOBILE PACE
Driver B Barclay was questioned regarding his tactics adopted near the 300 metres where ZENOLA'S ART, after being positioned 3-back on the marker line for the majority of the event was held up for clear running in the home straight. Of particular concern to Stewards was the decision of Mr Barclay not to shift the filly inwards and utilize the Passing Lane when it became available and in consequence became held up for clear running throughout the home straight. Mr Barclay explained that he had anticipated the trailing runner NO MORE CHANGE to utilize the passing lane when it was presented and envisioned he would then secure clear running to the outside of that runner. Mr Barclay added that once it had become apparent NO MORE CHANGE was unable to maintain its position with the leading LINTON SHARD and thus did not require the use of the Passing Lane, FRANCO HUNTINGTON which was following ZENOLA'S ART had already established itself inside his runner resulting in ZENOLA'S ART becoming held up for clear running. After viewing all available footage, Stewards excepted Mr Barclay's explanation and took the matter no further.
