Race 9 - BRUCE SINCLAIR PACE
Stewards issued driver B McLellan a charge under HRNZ Rule 868 (2) alleging he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that PASS THE SPEIGHTS was given full opportunity to win the above said race or in the alternative a charge under HRNZ Rule 868 (3) alleging he failed to drive PASS THE SPEIGHTS out to the end of the race when having a reasonable chance of finishing in first place.
Mr McLellan defended both charges and at a hearing held at Gore Raceway on the 10th February 2018 the JCA, after viewing all available films and taking evidence from both parties, found Mr McLellan not guilty of the charge under HRNZ Rule 868 (2) however found him guilty under HRNZ Rule 868 (3) in that he had failed to drive PASS THE SPEIGHTS out when having a reasonable chance of finishing first.
After taking into account written penalty submissions from the RIU and Mr McLellan, the JCA suspended his horseman's licence from the conclusion of racing at the Wyndham HRC's meeting on the 17th March 2018 up to and including the Forbury Park TC's meeting on the 5th April 2018 (6 Days).

LYNETTE THE VET - broke through the early stages losing ground. Held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
DAIQUIRI - broke at the start losing its chance.
DIPENDRA - trotted roughly throughout, then broke near the 900 metres. Driver S Walkinshaw reported the gelding to have trotted roughly throughout the runnning.
TOPNOTCH EAGLE - held up in the early stages of the run home.
KIWI CRUSHER - broke negotiating the first bend. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners record.
CRUSHER COLLINS - displayed poor barrier manners and refused to address the barrier with the field, taking no effective part in the event. Stood down from all standing start events and must trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion prior to racing next.
I'VE GOT THIS - broke near the 700 metres. Broke again near the 350 metres.
SHE'S ALLTHE CRAZE - inconvenienced by a breaking runner near the 900 metres.

SEMIRAMIDE - held up rounding the final bend, then became awkwardly placed to the inside wheel of HIGH LINE near the 300 metres. Driver M Neilson was cautioned to ensure she has sufficient room before attempting to improve in future.
VINTAGE ROSE - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
MYRCELLA - locked wheels briefly with FIRSTJOY passing the 600 metres.
FIRSTJOY - locked wheels briefly with MYRCELLA passing the 600 metres.
CHAR ELLIE - raced wide from the 800 metres and weakened considerably over the concluding stages.

HARRYDAHORSE - broke late in the score up checking the trailing BROADWAY BANNER, necessitating a false start be declared. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record. Driver C Ferguson elected to remain in his allocated position for the restart.
BIGANDME - driver C Lee was fined the sum of $300 by the JCA for using his whip outside of the accepted regulations over the concluding stages.
L J'S JET - hung outwards when negotiating the first bend and raced greenly thereafter. Weakened over the concluding stages. Junior driver J Morrison reported the gelding had been striking the wheel discs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed L J'S JET to have a high respiratory rate.
ME AND MY EXCUSES - declared a late scratching at 9.05am on veterinary advice.
DISMARA - over-raced in the parked position in the early stages.
KATE'S CARRERA - out of position at the dispatch. Driver K Barclay was fined the sum of $100 by the JCA for failing to maintain her position behind the mobile barrier. In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful of Ms Barclay having been spoken to recently regarding similar indiscretions.
MATINEE IDOL - out of position at the dispatch. Driver B Barclay was warned to ensure he retains his allotted position until the dispatch point.
CRUISIN REUBEN - raced wide in the early stages prior to being improved forward to obtain the parked position passing the 1500 metres. Weakened from the 400 metres. Driver D Dunn advised the gelding had become stirred up due to the false start and this had taken its toll.

NOBLE GAMBLE - trotted roughly at various stages during the running. Broke near the 700 metres.
SOUTH PARK - broke near the 900 metres.

PICKETTS RIDGE - raced wide in the early stages before improving to the lead near the 1500 metres.

TACT MAGGIE - tangled briefly at the start. Broke when being improved outwards near the 900 metres when racing to the inside of AKRIS (S Lock). Stewards spoke with driver B Barclay regarding this and after hearing his explanation it was established that TACT MAGGIE had broken of its own accord. A warning was placed on the mares racing manners record.
IECHYD DA - broke at the start losing its chance.
MATAI JETSTAR - over-raced in the early stages, becoming awkwardly placed on the back of TACT MAGGIE and breaking. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners record.
ALLIE - broke at the start.

ELOQUENT MACH - broke shortly after the start, failing to settle and losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
MIGHTY GEORGE - broke in the score-up and was back off the gate at the dispatch. Weakened on the final bend.
JACK JONES(AUS) - the removable deafeners applied to this gelding failed to activate due to the cord becoming entangled.

NIGHTMARCH - raced keenly through the middle stages. Held up in the early stages of the run home. Driver B Barclay reported he was unable to activate the removable deafeners applied to this gelding due to the cord becoming entangled. Mr Barclay further advised that he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
MAGNATE MARA - held up in the early stages of run home.
MY GEORGIE BOY - improved three-wide near the 1200 metres forcing CANARDLY REMEMBER wider on the track. Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule however after viewing replays its was established that MY GEORGIE BOY had commenced its outward movement prior to CANARDLY REMEMBER reaching its wheel and the matter was taken no further. Held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
LORRETTA FRANCO - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer S Breen advised the mare had benefited from a favourable draw and drop in class today.
TUHERBS TWO - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home. Lay inwards over the concluding stages and had to be steadied near the 50 metres.
CANARDLY REMEMBER - raced wider on the track momentarily near the 1400 metres when MY GEORGIE BOY improved outwards on its inside. Driver N Williamson expressed disappointment with the gelding's performance, with a subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealing an elevated heart and respiratory rate.
CAST A SHADOW - out of position at the dispatch despite the efforts of driver S Walkinshaw. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record.
VON RICHTHOFEN - Raced keenly in the middle stages becoming awkwardly placed to the wheel of NIGHTMARCH near the 1450 metres making contact with its inside wheel and causing the tyre to deflate. Continued to over-race thereafter. Driver T Williams advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to the gelding's next start. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record. Held up in the early stages of the run home.
HONOUR SCROLL - raced three-wide without cover from the 1200 metres.

LIKETHELOOK - broke over the early stages losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's standing start record.
DALI BREAD - broke at the start. Raced wide in the early stages. Weakened from the 800 metres.
CULLENS AVENUE - inclined to lay inwards exiting the final bend and through the early stages of the run home.
BETTOR B READY - broke at the start losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's standing start record.
SANTANNA'S ROCKET - weakened over the concluding stages. Junior driver M Anderson expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding. Stewards will follow up the recovery with trainer S Breen in the coming days.
IDEAL BREEZE - broke negotiating the first bend losing ground. Held up over the concluding stages.
MAIDONTHEBEACH - inconvenienced at the start losing ground.

TRIROYALE BRIGADE - driver N Williamson was fined $200 for using his whip outside of the accepted regulations over the concluding stages.
NAVAJO ART - raced wide in the early stages before being eased to the rear.
MACH'S BACK - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer P Ellis advised that in its career to date, the gelding has been inclined to race unfavourably and cross-fire in its gait during the running. Mr Ellis advised that in an attempt to rectify this issue, he has made alterations to both the horse's shoeing and gear in preparation for today's race and noted it had performed pleasingly at a recent trial.
ANNIE FITZ - broke during the score-up and as a result was out of position at dispatch. A warning was placed against the barrier record of this mare.
 
Race 10MLT/THREE RIVERS HOTEL WYNDHAM CUP (HANDICAP PACE)Video  Video 
SAGWITCH - broke at the start, failing to settle and losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's standing start record.
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's standing start record. Weakened from the 600 metres.
PASS THE SPEIGHTS - broke exiting the final bend when racing to the outside of FIERY FERRET (R McIlwrick) which was improving outwards to make a run. Stewards spoke with drivers B McLellan and R McIlwrick and after viewing films and hearing evidence from both drivers it was established PASS THE SPEIGHTS had hung inwards when under pressure simultaneous as FIERY FERRET was being improved outwards resulting in the leg of PASS THE SPEIGHTS making contact with the sulky wheel of FIERY FERRET causing it to break. After hearing the evidence submitted Stewards deemed no further action was necessary.
THE BIG BOSS - broke after 100 metres losing considerable ground.
 
Race 11NEVILLE CRONIN MEMORIAL MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
MELINA LOWE - inconvenienced by a tiring runner near the 1000 metres.
BARDOT - weakened considerably from the 1000 metres finishing a distance from the winner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly had suffered a from an Atrial Fibrillation with connections advised a veterinary clearance complete with ECG would be required prior to BARDOT racing next.
ERROL FINN - hung inwards under pressure rounding the final bend, racing inside several pylons.
BONTZ - inconvenienced by a tiring runner near the 1000 metres.
SOME EXCUSESOMEWHERE - over-raced in the early stages. Paced roughly and broke near the 50 metres shifting up the track and continuing in a break across the finish line. Authorisation of fourth placing being awarded to the gelding was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied SOME EXCUSESOMEWHERE had not breached the Breaking Horse Regulations at this stage of the race. After speaking with trainer C Barron regarding the geldings racing conduct a final warning was placed its racing record.
LILAC FLASH - held up rounding the final bend.
THE MAROON MARAUDER - broke in the score-up and hung inwards abruptly checking inside runners necessitating starter B Ward to abort the score-up. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record. Driver B Williamson elected to start from the Unruly position for the restart where the gelding will be drawn for future mobile starts. Raced greenly at various stages during the running.
TIZIANO - inconvenienced by a breaking runner prior to the winning post and had to be steadied.
