Race 2 - ASHBURTON MSA LIQUOR CENTRE MOBILE PACE
Trainer C McDowell advised Stewards on 28 February that HURRANIA THREE has shown no ill-effects from its disappointing run at Ashburton last week with a blood test showing no abnormalities. Mr McDowell added that the filly has worked well in preparation for her resumption on Friday.
Stable representative J Dunn advised Stewards on 1 March that following its disappointing performance at Ashburton on 25 February KEY REACTOR has been sent for a spell.
Race 10 - ASHBURTON GUARDIAN MOBILE PACE
Trainer C Dalgety advised Stewards on 28 February that blood tests taken from BRINGITONHOME following its lethargic performance at Ashburton last week have shown some irregularities with the gelding being sent for a spell in consequence.

HURRANIA THREE - held up final bend.
LONDON DELIGHT - weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance, driver G Smith could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slow recovery rate. The on-course Veterinary Surgeon recommended that blood tests be taken from the horse in the coming days. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including an endoscopic examination.
MAKE UP ARTIST - paced roughly shortly after the start checking the trailing ADIEU FLIRT and COMFORTABLY NUMB. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the mare. Raced wide without cover from the 900 metres.
NATURALLY GOOD - held up final bend.
SHE'S OUTSTANDING - over-raced middle stages.
LINCOLN TOY - held up final bend.
DELIGHTFUL TANNER - broke near the 350 metres when racing in restricted room with trailing runners being checked. Stewards questioned drivers K Cox (DELIGHTFUL TANNER) and M Anderson (THREE PLY) regarding this incident. After taking evidence from both parties it was established that DELIGHTFUL TANNER which had being laying inwards had momentarily shifted outwards when racing to the inside of THREE PLY resulting in DELIGHTFUL TANNER making contact with the wheel of THREE PLY. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied that no driver was at fault and accordingly took the matter no further.
I'MALLABOUTTHEBASE - hung inwards final bend.
TINTIN NATURALLY - checked near the 350 metres.
COMFORTABLY NUMB - checked shortly after the start. Checked near the 350 metres. Driver M Williamson reported he did not activate the removable deafeners.
ADIEU FLIRT - checked shortly after the start. Hung inwards and paced roughly near the 500 metres. Hampered near the 350 metres.
PRINCESS HOLLY - raced wide early stages.
THREE PLY - improved four wide from the 700 metres and then wider near the 500 metres. Lay inwards final bend.

ALWAYS AWAY - broke in the score up checking ASTOUND with a false start being declared. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the horse. Driver R Close elected to move to the unruly position for the re-start where it will remain for future mobile starts. Raced wide in the early stages. Weakened from the 600 metres.
QUEEN OF LOVE - lay inwards late in the run home.
STILL EYRE - weakened final bend.
EDESIA - held up on the final bend.
RUE DAUNOU - broke near the 900 metres checking the trailing MISSALYSSA which broke. A warning was placed on the racing record of the horse. Trainer K Adams advised the gelding would no longer be persevered with from her stable.
ONE OVER DA SKYE - broke in the score up losing considerable ground. Hampered near the 900 metres.
SKYLINE - driver G O'Reilly reported that his sulky tyre had deflated over the concluding stages.
MISSALYSSA - broke in the first score up. Cast a bell boot late in the score up of the re-start. Over-raced middle stages. Checked and broke near the 900 metres.

GABBY'S STAR - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
CAVIAR STAR - broke at the start.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS - held up in the early stages of the run home.
BOUND TO IMPRESS - broke at the start.
CORENA LEA - broke at the start and shifted outwards checking BEAU VISTA. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
BEAU VISTA - checked shortly after the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
SON OF A TIGER - raced roughly near the 2300 metres.
TUFFLITTLEROOSTER - refused to move at the start before breaking losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.

IMMORTAL CHANGE - broke at the start checking the trailing YANKEE XMAS which broke. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the filly. Over-raced middle stages. Paced roughly near the 500 metres.
CHAIN REACTION - hung outwards over the concluding stages and shifted up the track. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly.
KATIES NIGHTMARE - broke as the start was effected. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier record of the mare.
DARK RAGE - hung outwards in the score up and was back slightly at the start. Shifted outwards abruptly after 200 metres and broke losing all chance. Stood down to trial satisfactorily on one occasion.
YANKEE XMAS - checked and broke at the start. Paced roughly near the 500 metres.
PETE'S DASH - cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.

AVEROSS BRACHOLE - raced wide early stages. Weakened from the 500 metres inconveniencing AMERICAN ALICE and IDEAL RULE.
AMERICAN ALICE - held up near the 500 metres.
JINGLES BROMAC - broke near the 950 metres losing its chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Driver G Smith advised he would be recommending gear changes.
MOGUL - raced wide early stages.
LIVING GLORY - paced roughly and broke briefly near the 500 metres. Driver S Payne was warned for using his whip when out of contention.
CLAUS - held up early stages of the home straight.

ASSET CONTROL - the start was delayed due to the gelding requiring a sulky change. Broke at the start.
JOEY MAGUIRE - placed in restricted room near the 600 metres. Checked and broke near the 300 metres. A post-race veterinary examination showed no abnormalities.
CLIVE - driver B Munro (assisted by G Smith) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly near the 300 metres when shifting outwards checking JOEY MAGUIRE which broke. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $450.
ALL ABOUT HENRY - hung inwards near the 600 metres placing inside runner in restricted room. Driver D Keast would be spoken to regarding the manner he drove in the home straight.
PIRATE BAY - broke at the start. Over-raced middle stages. Authorisation of 3rd placing being awarded to PIRATE BAY was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations in the early stages.
RUN BOY RUN - late scratching at 10.55am on veterinary advice.
ROMANITE - broke at the start. Driver B Laughton advised he was unable to activate the sliding blinds due to the cord becoming entangled.

SMOKE N REACTOR - placed in restricted room racing into the first bend and paced roughly. Tired from the 500 metres inconveniencing DONEGAL MARY FRANCIS and KIWIS ARE FLYING. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
AUGUSTA(AUS) - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home. Had to be steadied just short of the finishing line after VAN LADDIE lay inwards.
ALTA SHELBY - hung inwards and placed in restricted room racing into the first bend. Hung inwards leaving the final bend and struck a pylon.
VAN LADDIE - hung inwards early stages of the home straight and again late in the run home despite the efforts of driver J Curtin.
DENSTOWN - over-raced early and middle stages. Driver J Cox was warned for the manner he shifted ground racing into the first bend when placing inside runners in restricted room.
BACK IN BLACK - lay inwards final bend.
KIWIS ARE FLYING - inconvenienced near the 500 metres.
DONEGAL MARY FRANCIS - inconvenienced near the 500 metres. Held up final bend.

BEYOND THE HORIZON - slow to begin.
NATIVES LASTING LOVE - held up passing the 800 metres. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 400 metres.
THE BLOSS - broke racing into the first bend. Briefly locked wheels with BK DAWN passing the 900 metres. Weakened final bend.
SPURRED BY SUCCESS - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
MON RICHIE - tired from the 800 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed soreness in the right hind leg. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
CELTIC THUNDER - held up passing the 800 metres.
MAJESTIC LAVROS - raced wide early stages. Broke at the 200 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
NO FEARS - breached the barrier strand causing a false start. Sent to the unruly position for the re-start where it will remain for future standing starts. Trotted roughly at the start. Raced wide early stages. Broke approaching the 400 metres.
ONE OVER DA STARS - raced wide early stages. Broke near the 1900 metres. Broke again near the 1500 metres. Tired from the 800 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
REDWOOD INVASION - trotted roughly in the early stages. Weakened final bend.
BK DAWN - briefly locked wheels with THE BLOSS near the 900 metres.

VYNDETTA - tired badly from the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. The connections advised they would have blood taken in the coming days and notify Stewards of the results. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.

CULLENMORE - raced wide early stages.
AVEROSS RUSTLER - held up by a tiring runner passing the 700 metres. Momentarily placed in restricted room passing the 150 metres when tiring and had to be steadied.
TEXAS RULER - hung inwards near the 150 metres.

COOL CHANGES - improved wide from the 700 metres.
BETTOR BACKIM - improved wide from the 700 metres.

LIMOSO - broke at the start losing all chance. Declared unruly for future standing starts. Driver J Cox was reprimanded for the manner he attempted to restrain the gelding in the early stages.
