General

Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

Due to the false start in Race 3 and the requirement of the St John Ambulance Paramedics being on track to assess driver C Purvis, the restart of Race 3 and all subsequent races were put back one race with Race 12 being rescheduled to start at 6.46pm. Subsequently Miss Purvis was transported to Dunedin Hospital for further observation and was unable to fulfil her remaining engagements. (See Summary for replacements.)

Due to the Mobile barriers inability to pull away from the field at an acceptable speed in the restart of Race 3, the start of Race 4 was effected by way of a moving start. A replacement mobile was obtained from Forbury Park and used without incident for the remainder of the meeting.

Race 7 - MICO PLUMBING AND BATHROOMS FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE

Trainer D Baynes advised Stewards on 22 February that IDEAL BREEZE has recovered well subsequent to its disappointing performance at Winton last week with blood tests showing no irregularities. Mr Baynes further advised that the mare was coming into season and he felt that this may have contributed to the effort adding that she is continuing with her current campaign.

Trainer H Hunter advised Stewards on 22 February that VIN SCULLY has recovered well following its run at Winton last weekend and will return to workouts before resuming.

YXoHcikWt_Q RED RIVER LOCHEE - raced wide in the early stages. Raced greenly when placed under pressure passing the 100 metres.
VENETO - held up through the early stages of the home straight, then again over the concluding stages having to shift inwards to secure clear running.
BEAUDIENE GAMBLER - raced wide without cover throughout.
CLASSIE REGAL - trainer/driver M Stratford was cautioned regarding the manner in which he used his whip on a runner out of contention.
EASTWOOD CHIEFTAIN - held up through the early and middle stages of the home straight until the 150 metres.
EARTHBOUND - held up early stages of the home straight.
RUSSIAN EXPRESS - improved four-wide from the 700 metres.
HOT OFF THE PRESS - out of position at dispatch. Amateur Driver G Anderson was issued with a warning to ensure he maintains his barrier position until dispatch in future.

Race 2	POWER FARMING OTAGO/OCEANAGOLD TROT Video
oDFl4lpi6Mc PAT THE MONKEY - hung inwards when negotiating the bend near the 1350 metres, then broke shortly after losing ground.
PEGASUS HANOVER - broke when leading near the 1400 metres. Broke again near the 500 metres losing its chance.
GLENDHU GEM - broke at the start, then again near the 900 metres.
MY EYRE - held up in the early stages of the home straight until being shifted inwards near the 200 metres to utilise the Passing Lane. Lay outwards when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
MISS BAMBOOCHA - broke over the concluding stages. Stewards spoke with connections regarding the mare's continued display of poor racing manners. After taking into the account the mare had trialled satisfactorily in preparation for today's event and given that the mare had been nominated for the second day of the meeting, Stewards exercised discretion and issued the mare with a warning.
STILL EYRE - broke at the start.
NEVERNEVERLAND - displayed poor barrier manners. Broke after 200 metres, then again near the 1300 metres. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when in a break through the early stages.
PEGASUS SUNRISE - broke at the start and again near the 1500 metres losing considerable ground. A warning was placed against the mare's racing manners record.
WAIT FOR SUCCESS - broke at the start.
BONNY REECE - broke after 200 metres and failed to settle for a considerable distance. Broke again near the 1900 metres.
BE BEE LASS - removed from the Unruly for future standing starts.

Race 3	MERIDIAN MALL MOBILE PACE Video
bWvcv3KuSuI BENZ BUY - driver C Purvis was dislodged from the sulky in the score up when severely hampered by MATAI JETSTAR. Miss Purvis was attended to at the scene by St John Ambulance Paramedics and transferred to Dunedin Hospital for further observation. BENZ BUY was subsequently a late scratching by order of the Stewards.
CIRCUIT BREAKER - driver B Orange was dislodged from the sulky in the score up when severely hampered by MATAI JETSTAR. Mr Orange was uninjured in the incident and cleared to fulfil his remaining driving engagements by St John Ambulance Paramedics. CIRCUIT BREAKER underwent and passed a veterinary examination prior to the re-start. Weakened from the 500 metres. Trainer E Murphy advised he would no longer be persevering with the mare as a racing proposition from his stable.
MATAI JETSTAR - broke prior to the dispatch and when being restrained, shifted inwards abruptly resulting in CIRCUIT BREAKER (B Orange) and BENZ BUY (C Purvis) being severely hampered, with the respective drivers being dislodged from their sulkies and a false start being declared. A warning was placed against the gelding's mobile barrier record. Declared Unruly for the restart where it will remain for its future Mobile engagements.
FRANCO TODDY - raced wide in the early stages.
LIS AMORE - held up in the early stages of the home straight until being shifted inwards to utilise the Passing Lane near the 200 metres.
THE DOORMAN - inconvenienced by breaking runner near the 1400 metres. Hung inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ARIZONA HIGHWAY - inconvenienced by breaking runner near the 1400 metres.
PEMBROOK BLUE - had difficulty obtaining clear running through the middle stages of the home straight until near the 100 metres.
BULLYS PRINCESS - broke when negotiating the crossing near the 1400 metres shifting outwards resulting in THE DOORMAN and ARIZONA HIGHWAY being inconvenienced.
Following the event, Stewards viewed coverage of the start, in particular to the mobile barrier's inability to clear the field at an acceptable rate. This was addressed for the remainder of the meeting. (See general)

Race 4	BIDFOOD/OAMARU VETS/SUPREME EQUINE FEEDS MOBILE PACE Video
hAZm7emaqM4 EASTON FOXGLOVE - locked sulky wheels with FUN SPONGE over the concluding stages and when attempting to relieve the pressure between both runners, shifted inwards abruptly inconveniencing FRANCO JUNE and MACH O'MELLEY.
IT'S A LAUGH - hung outwards through the early stages of the score up.
CLASSIE PRINCESS - M Anderson replaced C Purvis as the driver of the mare.
MACH O'MELLEY - inconvenienced over concluding stages.
TROMPEUR - had difficulty obtaining clear running through the early and middle stages of the home straight.
HUNTERTON - held up in the early stages of the home straight until near the 200 metres.
FUN SPONGE - locked sulky wheels briefly with EASTON FOXGLOVE over concluding stages.
REDDINGTON - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox reported the mare had failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
FRANCO JUNE - improved wide through the middle stages until reaching the parked position near the 1000 metres. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages.
THISLADYROCKS - broke near the 1450 metres and failed to settle for a considerable distance. A warning was placed against the filly's racing manners record.

9PV5l6D9Cgo MAGASTEY - broke at the start, then again on several occasions during the running. Driver K Butt advised the gelding failed to handle today's prevailing track conditions.
WESTY BOYZ - broke near the 1400 metres. Held up through the early stages of the home straight.
HOLDON TOYASPURS - J Morrison replaced C Purvis as the declared driver for the gelding,.
JEDI JOSH - broke shortly after the start.
COCKTAIL WAITER - had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
KO WRECTED - broke shortly after the start.
WHATASISTA - driver M Williamson reported the mare to have trotted roughly throughout the event and in his opinion had failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

CLARENDON FALCON - broke at the start then shifted outwards resulting in the trailing RAINY RIVER and JACKS N JAZZ being hampered.
ALLANDALE - the near-side hopple broke near the 1100 metres resulting in the colt breaking from its gait and the trailing LEADING THE WAY and BOOMER being hampered in consequence. This gear was inspected by Stewards following the event and found to be in a satisfactory condition.
LEADING THE WAY - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1100 metres.
ARMA TWOSPOONS - tangled away. Over-raced in the early and middle stages prior to being improved forward to obtain the parked position near the 1500 metres. Driver N Williamson reported that the mare's effort had told when placed under pressure in the home straight after over-racing in the early and middle stages.
GRACE BURNS - broke at the start.
BOOMER - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1100 metres. Held up early and middle stages of the home straight.
RAINY RIVER - hampered by breaking runner at the start. Held up through the early stages of the home straight until near the 200 metres.
JACKS N JAZZ - broke when hampered by a breaking runner at the start. Held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight until being shifted outwards to obtain clear running near the 200 metres.

BIG SMOKE - hung inwards through the early stages of the home straight.
STOMPEM - held up through the early and middle stages of the home straight until being shifted outwards to obtain clear running room near the 150 metres.
BLINGITON - trainer L Prendergast was issued with a $25 colour fee. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 8	TIPPLERS BAR & CAF/PALAMOUNTAINS TROT Video
4bQ1f-nrwII SARAH PALIN - held up in the early stages of the home straight until near the 300 metres. Connections advised the mare had tied up considerably on return to the stable enclosure.
LANDORA'S LASSIE - driver K Butt admitted a breach of Rule 869(7A)(a) in that she permitted the mare to strike numerous pylons in the home straight. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $100
IMRAN KHAN - weakened rounding the final bend.
FRENCH DESIRE - held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
KIWI CRUSHER - broke at the start, then again when negotiating the crossing near the 1500 metres.
DELESTIC - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer/driver N Williamson stated that at its most previous outing at Invercargill on 27th January the mare had choked down and since had added a choker plate to its racing gear in an attempt to rectify this issue. Mr Williamson added that the mare has previously raced well on grass surfaces where its only two wins have come from and the performance had not been unexpected.

Race 9	SKEVINGTON CONTRACTING/LLENNOCO JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE Video
p3GNPFGTZ2g UNICO ENCHANTRESS - compounded rapidly from the 700 metres. Stewards requested a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to have suffered an atrial fibrillation. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the mare racing next.
POWER SURGE - held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
TO RI ALBY - hampered by a breaking runner passing the 1000 metres.
SWAP OVER - locked wheels briefly with another runner near the 250 metres. Driver M Lewis advised the gelding's removable deafeners had inadvertently activated during the running.
TWO PLY - locked wheels when severely hampered by breaking runner passing the 1000 metres. Hung inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight and near the 250 metres locked wheels briefly with SWAP OVER. Driver M Anderson was issued a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100 when permitting the gelding to start out of position.
THE BULL PEN - broke near the 1000 metres when there was an easing of the pace on the one-out line, and when being restrained shifted outwards resulting in TO RI ALBY and TWO PLY being severely hampered.
SILVER DALE - T Dewe replaced C Purvis as the declared driver for the gelding. Out of position at the start. Driver T Dewe was issued with a warning.

Race 10	HOPE & SONS/FOURWHEEL DRIVE PARTS 2003 LTD MOBILE PACE Video
Gre4rzcyXEU MCCAWSOME - raced greenly for a distance passing the 1400 metres when obtaining a leading position. Held up through the early and middle stages of the home straight until near the 150 metres.
TACT DENZEL - declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.25pm.

Race 11	WAIKOUAITI AUTO ENGINEERING/EAST OTAGO TRANSPORT MOBILE TROT Video

PLAYBOY'S BROTHER - broke passing the 150 metres. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when in a break in the home straight.
PYRAMID MAGIC - broke shortly after the start. Trotted roughly for a short distance passing the 1100 metres.
SUNDONS FLYER - broke after 200 metres. Trotted roughly and broke passing the 1500 metres resulting in the trailing JEN JACCKA being inconvenienced.
JEN JACCKA - inconvenienced by breaking runner near the 1500 metres.
ALDERBECK - trotted roughly over the final 100 metres.
I'VE GOT THIS - D Reardon replaced C Purvis as the declared driver for the gelding. Trotted roughly and broke shortly after the start. Broke again near the 1000 metres.

Race 12	PICK & SHOVEL WINE/WAIHEMO LODGE MOBILE PACE Video
_CI1lIFGNHQ ERIN JACCKA - held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance trainer B Gray advised the mare had benefited from an economical trip during the running and was of the opinion the mare had appreciated the soft nature of the prevailing track conditions.
RAPHOE - held up early and middle stages of the home straight.
MR MIDNIGHT - paced roughly in the early stages.
MIGHTY EMPIRE - held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
MAN I'M GOOD - Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Trainer/driver A Kyle admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he exceeded the permitted number of strikes over the final 400 metres. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
DOC SEELSTER - paced roughly and broke as the start was effected. Held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight until near the 150 metres.
