Stewards reviewed the start with the Starter Mr F. Phelan and spoke to him advisedly in regard to the release point of this race.
RAVE NATION - broke in the score up and was approximately four to five lengths out of position at the start.
MONARCHY INVASION - broke passing the 2050 metres losing ground and settling toward the rear. The authorisation of the payment of the 4th placing of the gelding was withheld until such time the Stewards were satisfied that it had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.

GOLD ORCHID - lay in marginally passing the 250 metres when Driver A. Herlihy shifted ground outward to get clear running.
KOTARE CULLEN - inclined to shift ground outward during the course of the run home.

SERTORIUS - switched to a pace passing the 2000 metres with Driver J. Dickie restraining the gelding to correct its gait resulting in it losing considerable ground and settling twenty metres to the rear of the field.
KD HALL - trotted unevenly rounding the home bend and early in the run home.

DESTINED FOR HEAVEN - broke free of interference passing the 400 metres losing its chance. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners record.
GUPTA'S CULLEN - when in the lead lay in on a number of occasions rounding the bends.
MISSINMEMATE - raced one outside the leader under pressure inside the 600 metres and began to weaken passing the 400 metres.
HUNTER BROMAC - inconvenienced by a breaking runner and then by a tiring runner passing the 400 metres losing three to four lengths.

AORAKI - a post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of a mild throat infection. The connections advised that they would be carrying out further veterinary treatment.
STOW - broke approaching the 2000 metres losing considerable ground and trailed the field.
COOL SON - over-raced over the middle stages.
LINDY'S STAR - broke approaching the 1900 metres losing its chance.
STAR OF OLESYA - Improved three wide inside the 600 metres and forced to race four wide rounding the bend and five wide entering the straight for the run home.

WRANGLER - weakened final turn.
ZADAKA - inconvenienced final turn by weakening runner.
AMERICAN BRAVE - showed early gate speed to lead, headed final turn and failed to run on finishing in 6th place, beaten 5.2 lengths. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

RED CASTLETON - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
ALTA VENETIA - broke at the start losing considerable ground. The mare was placed on the unruly list for standing starts at the trainers request.
IL PIRATA - slow to begin. Inconvenienced by breaking runners early.

TYCOON TIGER - broke for a stride at the start.
FRANCO NIVEN - raced greenly behind the mobile and broke shortly after the start losing ground. Broke again for a couple of strides passing the 1300 metres.

AHA REACTION - over-raced outside the leader in the middle stages.
IDEAL STAR - broke for several strides at the start, then proceeded to over-race over the early and middle stages. Paced unevenly on a number of occasions during the running. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier manners record.
