MACHSGAIN - Stewards questioned driver C Ward regarding his decision not to improve outwards near the 500 metres with this runner consequently going to the line untested. Mr C Ward explained at all of the gelding's previous starts he had made the final bend awkwardly as a result of him striking a knee. He added that the gelding wore a pole on the near side and a hanging bit, however these were not able to prevent this issue. Trainer J M Ward explained the gelding possessed only a very short sprint and that he had instructed his driver to take this into account alongside the horse's intractability issues. Mr Ward added that he intended for the horse to be driven in this manner in future. After considering their explanations and viewing the films the matter was taken no further.
