REDMARO - held up early stages of the run home. | |
AS KIWI AS - over-raced middle stages. Hung outwards nearing the 400 metres and had to be steadied losing ground. | |
ASK ME ART - raced roughly in the early stages of the run home having to be steadied for a short distance. As a result the gelding lost ground and momentum. | |
ALL NUTS N BOLTS - carried a flat tyre from near the 900 metres. | |
EARTHBOUND - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier record. | |
EJA PATRON - paced roughly and broke in the score up. The front off side hopple carrier become adrift shortly afterwards resulting in the gelding stepping out of the hopple loop and being retired from the event. Stewards withheld the all clear until it could be determined that the gear had come adrift prior to the start. Declared a non runner under Rule 213(1)(j). M Maynard admitted a charge issued under Rule 864(2)(d) in that as the horseman responsible he failed to affix the gear so as not to come adrift. After considering submissions on penalty from Stewards and Mr Maynard, the JCA imposed a fine of $175. Mr Maynard was further cautioned to ensure he reports any matter which may have affected his horse's chance at the earliest opportunity. Trainer B Mowbray was cautioned for failing to advise who would be in charge of this runner in his absence. | |
LIVING LEGEND - awkwardly placed to the sulky wheel of ALL NUTS N BOLTS nearing the 900 metres. Stewards spoke with Amateur drivers C Wigg and N Munro in regard to this and after hearing from both drivers and viewing all available films, Ms Wigg was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which she drove at this stage of the race. | |

MDINA - when questioned regarding the performance, driver D Dunn advised his runner had raced greenly throughout and considering her performances prior to today was not overly disappointed with its efforts. Mr Dunn added that due to her inexperience he felt she would derive benefit from the run but that it was his intention to recommend to trainer C Dalgety the horse be sent for a spell. | |
CHIEF OF STAFF - broke prior to dispatch losing considerable ground. Trainer/driver A Faulks advised Stewards it was his intention to make gear changes and return the gelding to the trials. | |
THANK U GEORGE - broke on the bend near the 450 metres. Driver P Wakelin advised the gelding had contacted itself. | |
UNIQUE ROSE - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home. | |
QUEEN OF LOVE - held up on the final bend. Hampered in the early stages of the run home and shifted inwards contacting pylons for a short distance. | |
RED HARBOUR - broke in the score up and lost its chance. Driver C DeFilippi was spoken to for the manner in which he approached the gate when drawn unruly. | |

IT'S A DEAL - proved difficult in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Over-raced throughout and raced wide from the 1200 metres. Returned to the assembly area with a significant amount of blood present in its mouth with a post-race veterinary examination revealing the gelding to be in need of some dentistry. Stewards will speak with trainer R Cameron in the coming days with regard to this. | |
FRANCO GARCIA - over raced near the 1000 metres. Stewards spoke with Driver C Thornley regarding CAPITAL GIRL receiving a punctured sulky wheel at or near the 1000 metres. After assessing the racing conduct of FRANCO GARCIA at this point of the race, viewing the films and the explanation of Mr Thornley, Stewards took the matter no further. Paced roughly and broke near the 500 metres. | |

UNFINISHED BUSINESS - the boring pole was removed prior to the start. Stewards questioned driver L Lester (assisted by C DeFilippi) as to whether she could have shown more vigour in the final stages when engaged in a close finish with the winner, AIRPARK FLYER. Miss Lester advised she had tried her gelding with the whip in the early and middle stages of the run home with little response and so over the final stages had elected to focus more on reining her runner. She added the horse had disappointed her over the final stages considering the manner it had initially improved into the passing lane. Mr DeFilippi advised that the horse had not been tried at its last start with the whip (albeit after being checked) and was of the opinion the horse was not one who did respond well to a vigorous drive. After reviewing the films and considering the explanation Stewards deemed that Miss Lester had fulfilled her requirements but reminded her that it was expected she drive in a manner that does not leave her open to query in future. | |
WESTBURN BLISS - broke at the start losing ground. | |
WAIKARI FIRE - broke on the first bend and in doing so broke a hopple loop. This runner was not persevered with. | |

WOODSTONE - broke racing into the first bend losing ground. Driver J Dunn advised when he had returned his foot to the sulky footrest his toe had made contact with the gelding's hind foot which it had taken fright at and broken. | |

ENGLISH ROSE - Junior Driver B Hope (assisted by G Smith) was shown the films and cautioned for the manner in which he drove nearing the 500 metres when placing inside runners in restricted room. | |
CHRISTIAN WHO - raced three wide in the early stages and forced to race four wide briefly near the 1300 metres when BAILEYS KNIGHT shifted outwards to its inside. After speaking with driver J Harrington and viewing films, it was established that BAILEYS KNIGHT had commenced its outward movement prior to CHRISTIAN WHO reaching its sulky wheel and no further action was required. Shifted inwards near the 1200 metres to take up a position closer to the pylons. Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of ENGLISH ROSE nearing the 500 metres. Held up throughout the run home. Driver J Whittaker advised he did not activate the removable deafeners on this mare. | |
