Trainer R Holmes contacted Stewards on 22 October and reported that MARKIM has been found to have abscesses in its near front foot with these now being treated.
Methven TC - Sunday, 15th October 2017
Race 11 - STAPLES & KIDD LTD HANDICAP PACE
Trainer T Bagrie advised Stewards on 20 October that THE GOVERNOR has recovered well since its disappointing run at Methven on October 15. Mr Bagrie was of the opinion that the gelding may have needed the run after having missed some trials due to the adverse weather conditions adding that he expected improvement at the upcoming Kaikoura meeting.

Race 7 - JOHN JONES STEEL & PAPANUI PARISH MOBILE TROT
MUSCULUS - Stewards resumed an inquiry into the handling of this runner near the 550 metres when shifting inwards from a three-wide position to race against the pylons. As a result of this shift IDLE MOOSE was steadied while the trailing SAY YOUR PRES and UNIQUE MARSHALL broke. After considering the explanations of drivers S Tomlinson, L McKay, A Stewart and M Anderson (assisted by G Smith) Stewards issued a warning to M Anderson for the manner he shifted ground.

MAHKSMAN - over-raced middle stages. When questioned regarding his decision to shift inwards and race four back on the pylons near the 1400 metres, driver D Dunn explained when taking into account the slow sectionals dictated in the early stages of the race he was aware that it would turn into a sprint home and was of the opinion his horse was better suited to racing against the pylons when this eventuated as opposed to racing three wide without cover. Stewards accepted his explanation.
READY TO BLOOM - raced roughly shortly after the start. Driver T Williams reported the gelding was striking the discs after the start and during the running.
CAPITAL PLAN - over-raced middle stages.

YOUNG STRANGER - hung outwards on the final bend despite the efforts of driver C R Thornley. Again shifted outwards when having its deafeners activated near the 350 metres causing EDEN CREEK to be taken wider and check WOODSTONE who broke. Driver C R Thornley advised that due to his runner hanging outwards, TIME FOR DIAMONDS had improved to his inside and when attempting to relieve any pressure on that runner his gelding had run outwards hampering EDEN CREEK and WOODSTONE.
SPURRED BY SUCCESS - broke at the start.
EDEN CREEK - hampered at the 350 metres.
AGATHA TYRON - broke at the start.
CASTLETON TUI - refused to go losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
DAVEY MAC - broke shortly after the start.
MERLOT - slow in the early stages then hampered by a breaking runner.
HIGHLAND STAR - broke at the 300 metres.
WOODSTONE - broke at the 350 metres after receiving some buffeting from an inside runner.

DONEGAL CARRICKFIN - broke at the start. Broke again near the 300 metres. Driver S Tomlinson reported the gelding had struck itself. Trainer K Ford advised that it was his intention to have the gelding's shoes altered prior to racing at Kaikoura. Stewards advised Mr Ford that a final warning had been placed on the gelding's racing record.
FORGOTTEN HIGHWAY - broke at the start.
ALPHA ROCK - under pressure to maintain its position near the 1100 metres and was retired from the event at the 1000 metres. A post-race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities with the Veterinarian advising that in her opinion there was a possibility the horse had fibrillated but converted back to normal arrhythmia before returning to the stables. Stewards will follow up the recovery of ALPHA ROCK with trainer C Dalgety in the coming days.

JUNKYARD MASE - began awkwardly. Retired from the race passing the 1200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination showed the gelding to have suffered an atrial fibrillation. A Veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding resuming.
JULIA LADY - began awkwardly.
LAYTONS LASS - broke at the start.
RED MOON RISING - raced wide in the early stages.
PRADAS IDEAL DAHLING - hung inwards throughout the run home.

QUITE IDEAL - Stewards questioned driver M Williamson regarding his decision to vacate the one one near the 1600 metres and improve forwards to race outside the leader near the 1400 metres. From this point on the gelding applied pressure to the lead of THE DORCHESTER between the 1200 metres and the 800 metres. After considering comments provided by Mr Williamson and trainer B Mowbray the matter was adjourned to make further inquiries.

THE DORCHESTER - raced wide in the early stages.

There was a delay to the start of this event when HEAVEN ROCKS required farrier attention after pulling a shoe in the preliminary.
WAIKIKI BEACH - slow away.
LAZARUS - Trainers M Purdon & N Rasmussen were issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to notify LAZARUS would be racing without the notified blinds.
HAVE FAITH IN ME - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
ROBBIE BURNS - driver J Dunn reported the blinds were not activated due to the cord becoming entangled.
HEAVEN ROCKS - underwent and passed a Veterinary examination at the start after having its near front shoe re-fitted. Slow over the early stages.
 
Race 7MAINLAND WOOL HANDICAP TROTVideo  Video 
FOREVERMAN - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the final straight and when seeking clear running trotted roughly on several occasions.
MOMENTOUS - broke at the start.
MON RICHIE - driver C R Thornley was issued with a warning for the manner he drove near the 1900 metres when shifting in crowding the racing room of FEATHER BOYZ which had to be restrained. Weakened passing the 1100 metres and was retired from the race at the 900 metres. A post-race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer D Ross in the coming days.
SONEY BEATT - over-raced early stages.
FEATHER BOYZ - had to be restrained on the bend near the 1900 metres when crowded for racing room by MON RICHIE.
IZMOK - driver C DeFilippi was spoken to regarding allowing his whip to protrude outside the sulky confines.
ARRAN CHIEF - over-raced middle stages
ZACHARY BINX - broke briefly at the 2000 metres.

WILMA'S MATE - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
PRINCE FEARLESS - pre-race warm up. Broke at the 350 metres.
YAGUNNAKISSMEORNOT - checked at the start and shifted inwards. Driver J Dunn reported he had been unable to activate his removable deafeners as the cord had become entangled.
AMARETTO SUN - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
MARCOOLA - had to be steadied approaching the 700 metres when awkwardly positioned to the inside of the leading GREAT THINGS HAPPEN's sulky. Driver C Ford was advised he was expected to exercise more caution when attempting to improve into an inside run nearing a bend.
HEY YO - hampered by a breaking runner at the start.
BELLES SON - checked in the early stages, breaking and losing considerable ground.
ONE OVER DA MOON - raced wide early and middle stages.

SCARLETT BANNER - raced roughly for a short distance near the 800 metres. Trainer/driver G Smith reported he felt the horse had gone amiss. A post-race Veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities.

GENTLE GIANT - raced wide in the early stages.
SICILIAN SECRET - over-raced in the middle stages.
TENNYSON BROMAC - shifted outwards near the 1700 metres causing the improving ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT to be taken wider on the track. Driver M Purdon admitted a breach of the Push Out Rule and the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT - forced wider when improving its position near the 1700 metres having to be restrained. Held up early stages of the run home.
BUBBLE GUM - raced wide from the 1100 metres.
