Race 1 - BISHOPDALE/BUSH INN TABs & TAVERN HAREWOOD MOBILE PACE
Trainer R Holmes informed Stewards on 19 October that MARKIM has recovered well following its performance at Addington last Thursday with no sign of an injury to a foot as originally thought. Mr Holmes added that the gelding has worked well on the beach this week and will most likely return to the trials prior to a race day resumption.

Race 4 - TARA FAMILY TRUST PACE
Trainer M Smolenski was issued a charge under Rule 834(2)(a) after he failed to scratch LACHIE MCCOOL by the prescribed time, denying another runner a start with the JCA imposing a fine of $350.
Race 11 - STAPLES & KIDD LTD HANDICAP PACE
Trainer G Smith advised Stewards on 18 October that blood tests taken from RED MOON RISING following its disappointing performance at Methven have shown no abnormalities. Mr Smith added that in his opinion the gelding may not have handled the wet track at Methven and has worked well in preparation for Ashburton on Monday.

PARAVANI - held up until late in the run home.
GLENISTHEBETTOR - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
VAN LADDIE - hung inwards in the run home.
CLASSIE MARGARET - raced wide from the 1300 metres.
SHERIFF - driver B Orange reported he did not activate the colt's deafeners. Returned to the stabling area with blood present in the nostrils and after a Veterinary examination was confirmed to be a bleeder and stood down for the mandatory 30 days. A veterinary clearance and one satisfactory trial are required prior to resuming.

CHEEZEL - had to be steadied near the 1100 metres due to an easing of the pace.
MAD LU LI - had to be steadied near the 1100 metres due to an easing of the pace.
LEI MISS - raced wide and had to be restrained to the rear in the early stages.
MISS BIG - lay inwards throughout the final straight.
JUST DANCE - Trainer C Dalgety was fined $100 under the Programming Conditions Regulation in that he was late to have his runner stabled on course. Over-raced middle stages.
PRINCESS FULHAM - over-raced in the later part of the score up and broke briefly at dispatch. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Over-raced and got its head up in the early stages. Had to be steadied near the 1100 metres due to an easing of the pace.
DELIGHT IN ME - carried a flat tyre for the final 500 metres. Stewards spoke with driver M Purdon regarding an easing of the pace in the running line shortly after he crossed to the lead near the 1200 metres. Mr Purdon advised his filly had raced greenly at this time, being a first starter, and slowed once reaching the front.
BETTOR ASK ME - had to be steadied near the 1100 metres due to an easing of the pace.

TRICKY RASTUS - broke at the start.
STILL EYRE - broke after 150 metres.
NOBLE LAVROS - broke shortly after the start.
GIRLZ N BOYZ - began awkwardly. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
GRAND PRINCESS - broke after 200 metres. Broke again at the 100 metres.
ZONED SCARLETT - broke after 150 metres.
MONARCO - broke with 200 metres to run.
SEA ROVER - held up early stages of the run home.
TOPNOTCH TITAN - broke at the 1400 metres.
REBEL KIBBYBONES - raced wide in the early stages. Held up in the early stages of the run home. Lay inwards over the final stages.

NOVA TIME - held up on the final bend by a weakening runner.
THE KAIK - weakened after entering the final straight. When questioned regarding the performance, driver D Dunn could only advise he had been disappointed with the gelding's efforts. A post-race veterinary examination showed no apparent abnormalities. The connections advised the gelding will no longer be persevered with from their stable.
MAN OF STEEL - out of position at the start. Driver G Chmiel was issued with a warning. Held up on the final bend by a weakening runner.
CLAUS - hung inwards on the first bend and in doing so made contact with the front right leg of SICILIAN SECRET. In consequence CLAUS carried a flat tyre for the remainder of the event. Held up middle stages of the run home.
MAJOR FOUR - held up early stages of the run home.

REAL TORQUE - broke at the start. Held up throughout the run home. Driver S Ottley advised she had not activated the mare's deafeners.
RED TERROR - broke at the start. Hung outwards on the final bend.
GUPTA'S CULLEN - over-raced in the middle stages.
FRANCO HAMPTON - broke at the start.
LINTON SHARD - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home. Stewards questioned driver D Dunn regarding his decision to shift outwards at the 300 metres instead of retaining the trail to utilise the passing lane. Mr Dunn explained that in his opinion the leader COMPLIANT was under considerable pressure at that time and was unlikely to take him much further into the race which would have resulted in him being held up and losing his momentum. He added that in his opinion MR MIDNIGHT was travelling better so following that runner was more likely to result in him gaining clear racing room at the earliest opportunity. After considering his explanation and reviewing the films, Stewards deemed Mr Dunn's actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

HALLOWED TURF - broke in the score up checking the trailing MACH UP resulting in a false start being declared. Driver B Butt elected to move to the unruly position for the re-start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record.
DARKERSHADEOFPALE - lay inwards in the early stages of the run home crowding the racing room available to STOPPITT.
STOPPITT - raced roughly for a short distance leaving the final bend when awkwardly positioned close to an outside runner.
DIRECT CONTROL - the boring pole was removed prior to the start. Over-raced middle stages.
GORE BAY - steadied for a short distance near the 100 metres when crowded for racing room. Driver T Chmiel (DARKERSHADEOFPALE) was warned for the manner in which he shifted ground.
MACH UP - raced roughly on several occasions during the running. Held up on the final bend by a weakening runner. When spoken to regarding the performance of the gelding, driver and co-trainer N Rasmussen explained her horse was still not comfortable in its gait at this stage of its career and for this reason had been driven conservatively.
ULTIMATE JJ - broke in the score up of the re-start losing considerable ground. Over-raced middle stages. Held up on the final bend by a weakening runner.

STELLAR SUCCESS - held up throughout the run home.
UNIQUE MARSHALL - checked and broke at the 550 metres.
SAY YOUR PRES - raced wide in the early stages. Checked and broke at the 550 metres. Stewards opened an enquiry into the breaking of this runner.
SOLAR STORM - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver L Lester. Broke at the 850 metres.
IDLE MOOSE - hung inwards on several occasions. Raced wide from the 1750 metres. Had to be eased near the 550 metres.
DUSKY EYRE - paced as the start was effected and had to be restrained into its correct gait. Continued to pace for a considerable distance through the middle stages when improving its position and re-joining the field. Junior driver D Keast admitted a breach of Rule 870(2)(b) in that he failed to promptly return his runner to its proper gait. After considering submissions on penalty, the JCA imposed a fine of $150.
MIRACLE RISING - raced roughly for several strides and was out of position at the start. Shifted inwards near the 1700 metres when not sufficiently clear. Driver K Butt was issued with a warning.
MUSCULUS - had to be restrained near the 1700 metres.
HOT N FAST - held up in the early stages of the run home.
 
Race 8NRM SIRES' STAKES SERIES (HEAT 3) MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
ALOKA - broke for a short distance near the 100 metres.
HAIL CHRISTIAN - had to be restrained near the 1250 metres.
ALTA MAESTRO - was dictated inwards near the 1400 metres by STAR COMMANDER having to race in the passing lane for a short distance. Over-raced on the final bend.
CULLENBURN - had to be restrained near the 1250 metres.
STAR COMMANDER - shifted inwards near the 1400 metres having to be steadied and taken outwards. Stewards spoke with driver M Williamson regarding this and after reviewing films were satisfied that he had shifted inwards prior to ALTA MAESTRO reaching his wheel and so took the matter no further.
COLE PORTER - had to be steadied for a short distance near the 1300 metres when taken wider on the track.
 
Race 9MURNEY FAMILY TRUST & MID CANTERBURY PARISH MOBILE PACEVideo  Video 
SWEET MARY - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to surrender the parked position.
THEBOYSLIGHTUP - paced roughly and was back at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Over-raced middle stages.
CARLAW PARK - raced wide in the early stages.
MONGOLIAN MARS - when spoken to regarding the colt's performance, trainer P Court advised he was disappointed with the horse's efforts and it was his intention to send the colt for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination showed not apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 10COMMODORE HOTEL & BURNSIDE PARISH PACEVideo  Video 
KING ARTHUR - broke at the start.
DEVILICIOUS - blinds removed prior to the start. When questioned regarding the mare's improved performance, Trainer J Thomas explained that previously the mare had been a poor eater which he had been able to remedy causing a noticeable improvement in her demeanour. He added that as a result of this the mare's work had improved and he had been confident of an improved showing.
PEMBROOK'S PASSION - broke at the start. Trainer/driver G Smith advised it was his intention to add hopple shorteners to the gelding's gear.
PINE CONE - shifted outwards on the bend near the 300 metres restricting the racing room of PROUD BROMAC. Driver K Cameron was issued with a warning.
AMERICAN ROCKSTAR - broke at the start.
BELLE OF BROOKLYN - broke at the start.
PROUD BROMAC - raced wide in the early stages. Had to be steadied when weakening on the bend near the 300 metres as a result of being crowded for racing room.
FRANCO TODDY - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the run home.
DAYS OF REDEMPTION - broke at the start. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards had confirmed the gelding had not galloped in excess of 150 metres in the early stages.
EDITORIAL - checked at the start. Raced wide throughout.
PAT STANLEY - broke after 100 metres. Broke again at the 900 metres and shifted outwards abruptly.
STILL OF THE NIGHT - broke for a short distance near the 250 metres.

REMACHABLE IDEA - the all clear was withheld until Stewards had spoken with driver R May and he had confirmed that despite the lead horse shifting into the passing lane his chances had not been adversely affected.
PADDINGTON CENTRAL - raced roughly near the 400 metres.
BOUND TO IMPRESS - carried a flat tyre for the final 1500 metres.
IT'S A DEAL - raced roughly near the 1500 metres after making contact with the sulky wheel of BOUND TO IMPRESS. Driver R Cameron was issued with and admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he had been careless at this time. After considering submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $300.
THE TIN SOLDIER - lay inwards throughout the final straight shifting into the passing lane in consequence. Stewards spoke with driver M Williamson and after reviewing the films were satisfied that he had made a considerable effort to draw his gelding outwards from the passing lane however he had not been able to to do so and accordingly no action was required.
MANINTHEMIRROR - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Driver S Ottley advised she had not activated the gelding's removable gear.
VINTAGE BEACH - crowded leaving the final bend when runners either side shifted ground. Stewards will speak with the connections in the coming days regarding the gelding's seemingly disappointing performance.
MARRERA - held up by a weakening runner on the final bend.
