| M T POCKETS - over-raced over the early and middle stages before attempting to improve entering the back straight the final time but was soon under pressure failing to run on, finishing in 8th place, beaten 11.1 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance Junior Driver J. MacKinnon explained that over-racing during the running had taken its toll. Mr MacKinnon further stated that the gelding had then dropped the bit racing through the front straight to receive the bell and that he had been concerned that he would be forced wider on reaching the 1000 metres so he was required to drive the gelding along and as a result he did not activate the hopple shorteners until racing down the back. Trainer T. Vince advised the horse is better racing in a more forward position, however, was reluctant to instruct Driver MacKinnon to go forward due to the speed of the runners drawn to his inside. | |
