Race Comments
Race 1TERROR TO LOVE AT PINELEA FARM FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
IDEAL DENARIO - weakened from the 600 metres inconveniencing trailing runners.
MONIAIVE - paced roughly and broke near the 500 metres when being eased wider on the track. When questioned regarding his horse breaking driver R Swain advised that the mare had resented the movement from its inside and proved difficult to steer at this stage due to the jaw breaker slipping through the bit and it wearing a Murphy blind which had restricted its view of the inside runner. Mr Swain advised he would be making gear changes prior to its next start and a warning was placed on this mare's racing manners.
ALLONBLACK - was inclined to hang inwards through the early stages and throughout the running. Hung in abruptly just prior to the winning post making contact with the outside wheel of MOTU BELLE DU JOUR which was racing to its inside. Authorisation of first placing being awarded to this mare was withheld until the Stewards had spoken with driver B Orange (MOTU BELLE DU JOUR) into whether his chances of beating ALLONBLACK had been affected by this incident. Mr Orange advised that although contact had been made this had no effect on his placing.
EVANGELINE FRANCO - inconvenienced by tiring runner near the 500 metres. Driver A Suddaby had his horseman's licence suspended by the JCA from the conclusion of racing today up to and including the Invercargill HRC's meeting on the 7th October 2017 for using his whip outside HRNZ's guidelines over the concluding stages.
JANUARY JONES - broke in the score up and was slightly out of position at the dispatch.
TICKS BABE - gave ground from the 450 metres.
MOTU BELLE DU JOUR - briefly locked wheels with ALLONBLACK prior to the finishing line.
ULTIMATE JJ - broke late in the score up and failed to settle, losing all chance. A warning was placed on this mare's mobile barrier record.
ALLIE - raced wide in the middle stages.

Race 2TERROR TO LOVE AT PINELEA FARM MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
SHINGLESTAR - weakened from the 500 metres. Due to the mare continuing to race in an uncompetitive fashion a warning was placed on its record.
SOMNIUM - was restrained through the early stages.
BETTY BOO - raced keenly through the middle stages before weakening over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have an elevated heart rate and a poor recovery. Stewards will follow this up with trainer T Stratford in the coming days.

Race 3MACCA LODGE TROTVideo  Video
A false start was declared when the front line tape failed to activate when intended.
SKY TOWER - broke as the start was effected.
STRATHMORES CHARM - moved backwards as the start was effected checking OVERCAST. A warning was placed on this mare's standing start record.
PHOEBE FLYER - Driver K Franks attempted to improve this mare into a run which did not exist rounding the final bend when attempting to avoid the tiring OUR BUDD (A Suddaby). This resulting in OUR BUDD being eased downwards over track markers to make room for PHOEBE FLYER before both runners locked wheels. Mr K Franks was fined the sum of $300.00 by the JCA for driving carelessly at this stage of the race.
OUR BUDD - weakened passing the 600 metres. Driver A Suddaby was forced to improve the gelding inside markers rounding the final bend in an attempt to avoid PHOEBE FLYER which was improving to its outside before locking wheels with this runner. Broke when re-entering the course proper.
KO WRECTED - broke shortly after the start losing its chance.
SCARLETT LANE - retired from the event near the 1800 metres after having the outside sulky wheel struck resulting in the tyre deflating.
BELMONT INVASION - struck the sulky wheel of SCARLETT LANE when being eased to take a trailing position near the 1850 metres and broke shortly afterwards. Trotted roughly over the concluding stages and was unable to be driven out with any vigour. Authorisation of first place being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations when in a break at this stage of the race. Driver B Barclay was fined $300.00 by the JCA for driving carelessly when striking the sulky wheel of SCARLETT LANE nearing the 1800 metres.
LAURA BUSH - inclined to lay inwards throughout the running. The Murphy blind on this mare became partially detached during the running.
OVERCAST - checked at the start by STRATHMORES CHARM losing all chance. Authorisation of the payment of all dividends was withheld until the Stewards had viewed the films of the start and confirmed this mare had not been denied a fair start.
CUDDLY TROUBLE - broke shortly after the start losing its chance.
AMBRO AMEIGO - broke shortly after the start losing its chance.
TAKENOPRISONERS - awkwardly placed to the sulky wheel of LAURA BUSH and had to be steadied just prior to the finishing line. Driver R McIlwrick reported he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.

DISMARA - hung outwards and paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the dispatch. A warning was placed on this gelding's mobile barrier record. Over-raced and paced roughly at various stages throughout the running.
DODGETHEBULLET - raced keenly through the middle stages. Weakened passing the 300 metres and was inclined to lay outwards throughout the run home. When spoken to regarding this driver D Dunn advised the gelding had over-raced throughout with this taking its toll over the concluding stages.
FRANKIE D - over-raced in the parked position during the running and weakened from the 500 metres. Driver J Cox advised that due to the gelding over racing this had taken its toll over the concluding stages.

Race 6PHILLIPS HORSE TRANSPORT HANDICAP TROTVideo  Video
ROCKNPOP - weakened considerably from the 450 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Driver S Tomlinson was of the opinion this was due to the extremely fast time the race was run in.
GOLDEN GATE - broke when negotiating the first bend losing its chance.

Race 7SWEET LOU'S ARE STANDOUTS MOBILE PACEVideo  Video
LEIGH MAJOR - raced three wide without cover from the 1100 metres and weakened considerably over the concluding stages. Driver B McLellan advised the mare had worked hard during the running on such a fast pace which had taken its toll.

Stewards spoke with Miss Tomlinson regarding the incident passing the 1000 meters and after viewing all available films and hearing submissions from Miss Tomlinson it was established that this was caused by a slight easing of the pace and the erratic racing manners of PAY ME JIMMY. Given this a warning was placed on the record of PAY ME JIMMY and Miss Tomlinson was advised to be aware of her surroundings when placed in similar circumstances in future.
AVEROSS FERRARI - held up rounding the final bend.
