Race 4 - HIGHVIEW TOMMY ONLY $1500 JUNIOR DRIVERS MOBILE PACE
Trainer S Telfer advised Stewards that following its disappointing performance that CARLAW PARK has had five days off and has since been treated for a blood disorder and that an abscess burst in the off hind foot. The horse is back in work with the view of starting in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
The adjourned inquiry in relation to an admitted charge under Rule 869(2)(a) for Junior Driver T. Lethaby (DOUBLE TWIST) for excessive use of the whip was reconvened at tonight's meeting. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a suspension of Mr Lethaby's Junior Horseman's licence upto and including 5th October 2017 (3 days).
Race 7 - CHARLIE BLACKWELL MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
SUNSET PEAK - Stewards questioned Junior Horseman B Butcher regarding his decision to not shift wider on the final bend in an attempt to improve his position but instead maintain a run in the two wide line causing him to be held up for a short distance. Mr Butcher explained he had been inconvenienced in the early stages and lost ground causing him to work hard near the 1500 metres to take up a better position. He added that his horse had hung inwards on the final bend when under pressure and despite being held up for a short distance felt his horse had nothing left to offer. He reported that in his opinion the horse had been slightly disappointing in it's efforts over the final stages. After considering his explanation and reviewing the films no further action was required.
